Posted - 06/25/2007 : 02:42:31 I'm taking the train in few minutes. I hope the crowd will shout loud when the band will play Massif Centrale.
I'll post the setlist tomorrow.

Posted - 06/27/2007 : 23:34:57 Hello,
It was the first time I saw him in Live. The show was very surprising !!
In the afternoon, I approached it to take a photograph . He was sympathetic. |

Posted - 06/27/2007 : 09:01:33 Cedelo, I share the same feelings about the show. I think too California Bound is the one that lack most a second guitar. In my opinion, the way FB is on stage makes focus a bit less on the music and more on the show. See him jumping, dancing and crawling is enough!
A cool review in french: http://www.concertandco.com/artiste/frank-black/cooperative-mai-clermont-fd/critique-concert-1-17322-18238.htm

I wanted to say: if i think non-FB-hard-fan can NOT appreciate the acoustic version of two reelers (without knowing the electric one).
Also, the sound was OK… loud enough, not too much At the last FBATC concert in the same place (2003) the concert was too loud: I was at the first row and I did not recognize directly some songs… and the day after, I dould not hear the children chating in the last row in the classroom!
If someone wants to answer me about my impressions…

Posted - 06/26/2007 : 09:49:47 The cooperative de mai has several stages, the concert was in the smallest one, a very nice room with a bar. First part was a local band called seven seas. The man came on stage alone with a glass (maybe some cognac) and his acoustic guitar… a dream for me: I’ve also seen the Pixies, FBATC (in the same place)… I was just hopping to see him playing solo! Done!!… and by surprise!!! Little joke from FB in the final part of velouria in the Kim Deal vocal part: ”hey it’s Kim Deal!”. I really appreciated the acoustic set, but if i think non-FB-hard-fan can appreciate the acoustic version of two reelers (without knowing the electric one). Really good history song: starts with FB alone, then he ask each musician to join and play with him one by one (drums, bass and finally guitar). Then FB leaves his guitar and stars serious things, moving, jumping everywhere… surprising to see him this way! He finally leaves his jacket. No setlist: he asks in the ear a musician to start a song or shout in the microphone the next song. A few words in french: batterie, l’addition et c’est tout at the end of the show. As with the Pixies, the band to do not leave stage at the encore. At the end of the last song, he slowly put his jacket on and leaves the stage.
I just had to wait a few minutes to ask a roady to give me the pick he used in the acoustic set that he left on his amp! My first trophy!!
I really liked the show, but, I really disliked California bound, ‘don’t know why, maybe too rought for this one. FB and TOTY songs were great even if i think a second guitar would have been better on some songs… even if the new guitarist try to do his best. The new band is just perfect for the new bluefinger songs! Really great!
I saw some photographs with their phones, I just had my classic camera. I took a few pictures, but they are horrible because I did not want to use the flash… sorry.
The audience was very, very cool: very close to the stage and no one tried to touch FB during the show but he did not shake any hand at the end of the show, thought we tried! Also, I was in the first ones to wait the doors get opened, he crossed several times the hall and did not came to see us or sent a hand sign. Many artists come to see the crowd while it is not too big. Also, Popa Chubby have a cool trick to stop the encores: he seats on stage and sign anything you want and accept any photograph… (ok, Popa C is not as great as FB…) I understand he does not try this kind of things while he plays in front of big audience, but in this kind of place…
My brother came from Paris to bring me from Limoges to this concert. Every year, he offers me a ticket concert, for example for the Pixies in 2004 where we had to buy Tshirts at the end of the show because we were too wet. He weared this Tshirt … funny because he do not really appreciate FB and it was the only one I saw! (maybe some rare guys had one)
Last funny thing: FB wears no sockets in his shoes!
You can disagree with my impressions (california bound was not great, one guitar was not enough, except o bluefinger songs…) but this is my point of view… let me know yours!
Sorry for the mistakes, but I am a poor maths teacher, not an english one!

Posted - 06/25/2007 : 15:49:17 Awesome, fucking awesome. Anything like the Paris show.
First, Frank joined the stage alone, wearing sunglasses a black jacket and a white shirt. He said " transylvania - whooo vvvvv wooooo", like in a horror movie then took his acoustic guitar and played:
Velouria Ramona She took all the money Two reelers Sir Rockabye Headache
Then he started the History Song (aka Albarn Song), introducing first Skippy, playing the first verse drums + guitars, then Ding - verse- then Charles Normal.
They did the usual setlist for the tour, with Massif Centrale, Dead Man's Curve (the highlight for me, I love that song so much, and a good response of the crowd), Bluefinger tracks, Freedom Rock, L.A., All my Ghosts, Rockafeller skank, ... they ended perfectly with Robert Onion,(almost an encore, he just said goodbye before it).
Frank reached high notes, much lesser mistakes (in fact i didn't heard them), the show was more professional, Frank jumped everywhere, I had never heard him shout like that, great shape. And it lasted a bit more than 1h30
The crowd was alright, considering everyone wasn't far from 30. Lot of shouts and applauses. the first row danced and jumped a bit.
I talked to a poor italian fan (he had never met any other FB fan before tonight), he spent two nights in a sleeping bag on the stairs of the venue, and he's going in Marseille tomorrow for the next show.
I've met the band after the show, they were nice and friendly, I introduced myself as a forum member and thanked them for the interview on Blackolero and SkippyOnDrum.com. Jason confirmed Frank decided to play few songs alone because fans were complaining about the lenght.
That's all!
