I read in last concert reviews that Frank Black was just singing
in his European concerts, without playing guitar. I hope this
was an exception at one concert ?

I will see you in Nijmegen, The Netherlands on July 5, I really
hope that Frank will be plaing guitar the whole concert.

That is quite frustrating for me. Please, Frank, get back your

patience Llano, these are pretty much punk shows he's doing this tour. i don't know if its the lack of a guitar but his vocal performance has been amazing.

IMO his shows are much more exciting when he does not play guitar. He allows himself to perform and that's entertainment!
I love the concept of an opening with acoustic songs and then corporal freedom.

As far as rock music goes, the Man does not make mistakes. Sing on, you dancing bear.

As I already said, stop complaining and wait to see the man move. You won't believe it.

At an LA show in '01, Frank sang "I Switched You" without a guitar...he just stood there singing, motionless, with a beer in hand...it was intense as hell, and a beautiful thing.

Dude, wait until you'll see him.
I can tell you his a good frontman, and he's no dancing bear at all.

It's interesting that he's playing without. I've yet to see him, but I can imagine that with a single guitarist, some songs will sound a little weaker than others.

Of course, it's not up to fans to dictate, but I don't know, it's always reassuring to see the Man beating up a Tele.

Hello Kelladwella,

nice to meet another FB fan from Germany. Thanks for your reply.
I can't really understand why some fans like him just singing without
playing guitar. He once said "I am guitar player, no dancing bear...". Hope
this will be true forever.
I like his music most when he's playing with guitar solo (without backing band).
I hope he will have enough of just singing very very soon and return
to his Telecaster.

Hi Llano, this is what The Man himself had to say about it a few days ago in the "King Holds Court" thread:

yes, why the decision to not play guitar at these recent shows?
is it a new 'phase' you're entering or is it solely cause bluefinger only had one guitar and you didn't want to change that in a live setting?

and have you ever performed sans guitar before?
my favourite pixies moment is the encore of tame during the 1991 brixton academy gig which is the only other time i've seen you sing without guitar...how does it feel?

all i can say, thank god for polio! brian

it is difficult to explain, but i do feel a strong urge to remove the guitar from my shoulder for the moment. it's just something i feel. i love to play the guitar, but at the same time it is a barrier and i need to feel the barrier removed. i need to feel the songs on a deeper level. i need to concentrate on something that i cannot identify just yet. i have known that i needed to try this for a long time, and so here i am without a guitar.
