Short review from yesterday's show.
The band seemed really tired, probably due to a long drive from Switzerland.
They played a little more than an hour, beginning with Freedom Rock then Thalassocracy.
They played the Albarn Song as an encore, with FB playing the acoustic guitar.
In fact it's "History Song" from The Good, The Bad And The Queen
A little later maybe.

Do you think the Pixies were a brouillon of Black Francis?

and that's right the guitar is missing on Los Angeles, California Bound and Robert Onion. Anyway I really appreciated the new songs, especially Tight Black Rubber which was better than the studio version. This version of old black dawning was really cool too. But Dean, use a third finger please!

I found that some songs were not really well played. Specially on Captain Pasty where the bass and the guitar did not really manage to follow the drums. But that's right it's not a very easy song to play.

suspense is growing growing growing... I can't wait to see this!

Please call me Holiday, or Mr Son !

Anyway, let me say again that it was a great show but very frustrating due to the way it ended.

come one Son! I'm older than you, I could be your father!

then the question is: is all the tour going to be be like that?

I'm really excited about seeing this band, but it seems a little odd that FB is eschewing the guitar almost completely.

Thanks for the review Son, seems like it was an uneven gig. Then I cross my fingers and hope it will be just perfect on the 27.

Oh and I've seen a lot of people taking pictures and filming so if anyone wants to post some, it would be welcome !

nb: I wouldn't call History Song an encore since they didn't leave the stage.

First let's start with the negative side :
- Only 70 minutes, without an encore !! (Frank I know you're not a dancing bear but come on ! And the audience was in no way disrespectful so I really don't understand...)
- The sound wasn't very good with some technical problems (maybe that's why they didn't come back)
- No "Dead Man's Curve" and no "Lolita" !!!
- A couple of songs really lacked a second guitar (California Bound being one of them)

Ok now on the positive side :

- I think Frank never rocked that much before (how the hell will he be able to finish the tour with his voice intact ?!?)
- The Rockafeller Skank was fun
- Manitoba was excellent. I've never been a big fan of this song but this version is really great.
- Old Black Dawning was brilliant ! Definitely the highlight of the show as far as I'm concerned.
- The opening act was a very very good surprise !
Here's their myspace page with their brilliant cover of Walk like an Egyptian and their hit single Los AnGeles !

All in all it was a great show but I can't help being disappointed by its shortness.

Here's the setlist (not in exact order, except the first two and last one)
Freedom Rock
Thalassocracy*
Tight Black Rubber
Los Angeles
Ten Percenter*
California Bound
Threshold Apprehension
You Can't Break A Heart And Have It
Old Black Dawning*
Your Mouth Into Mine
Captain Pasty*
Manitoba*
Massif Central*
The Rockafeller Skank
Robert Onion
Remake/Remodel
History Song

* My favorites from last night

ps: Frank if you read this, please play Dead Man's Curve and Lolita in Toulouse next week !
