Posted - 04/20/2007 : 15:37:06 Hey!
Me and my wife is planning to visit the gig in amsterdam the 4 of July. And it was her idea!! I love her for that! So: what to do the rest of the time in amsterdam? I know that itīs a lovelly and romantic town, but what to NOT miss when where there? I think i own my fantastic wife a fantastic visit in amsterdam just for the fantastic idea of going here just to see FB. Who she has only heard of in my braggerish speaking words. If there isnīt any word thatīs called "braggerish", well, then i just invented it.
So: You Dutch people, please come with suggestions for our week in Amsterdam. Maybe we can meet and have a beer?

Can be really cool. Its my wifes birthday today, so i gave her a trip to london with a good hotel and an awesome rockshow!
She was very glad to her that, but shes in greece with the kids so i couldnt see her face when i told her.
So:London, here we come!!

Posted - 06/09/2007 : 21:40:46 According to the printed schedule, you can get almost anywhere in Holland in about an hour on the train. Unfortunately, Dutch trains suck and you're more likely to face delays and poor service (all my Dutch friends bitch about this constantly). My last trip from Amsterdam to Rotterdam took about four hours due to the direct train being cancelled due to rain (yep, some Dutch trains cannot operate while wet) so we had to take two connections for the short trip or wait even longer for the next scheduled direct train (which would probably be delayed too). |

Posted - 06/09/2007 : 00:02:46 Another question for any Dutch locals:
How long does it take to get from Amsterdam to Rotterdam by local train? And i assume like the rest of Europe, it is really really easy?

Posted - 06/08/2007 : 23:58:04 thanks.. will check that bar out.
Is there much to do in Rotterdam?
I went to amsterdam when i was a 21 yr old backpacker..and needless to say i dont remember much. It will not be the same this time, i want to check it out a bit better.
However i am going to the rotterdam show aswell.

Posted - 06/08/2007 : 21:33:52 If you're looking for a great bar try In De Wildeman (www.indewildeman.nl/indexe.html), one of my favorite bars on the planet (over 200 beers). Manneken Piss should not be missed for a nice cone of frites (around 30 sauces). Febomat is awesome for the whole surreality factor (a walkin vending machine offering a dizzying array of fried foods). The Bier Koenig is the best liquor store I've ever visited. There's always the coffee shops as well as the museums and the zoo (I always go to the zoo in every city I visit). Best bet is to head out walking and you'll be amazed what you stumble across. |

Posted - 06/08/2007 : 07:23:23 Im doing exactly the same!
Travelling to israel and have been trying to make a european frank date fit..
so Rotterdam/Amsterdam it is..going to both shows and dragging my girlfriend along. I was baffled with what to do around Holland aswell. I wanted to go to the London but the dates dont fit, and there is no way i am doign a festival..i hate festivals. (unfortunately this is how i had to see the pixies) Hopefully everything goes smoothly |

Posted - 04/29/2007 : 10:56:13 I was just there this past October for the first time. Here's some things I saw that are definitely worth going to. The Oude Kerk is really great if you are into old cathedrals. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oude_Kerk_%28Amsterdam%29
The Ann Frank house: totally touristy but very moving. I don't really care for Van Gogh but if you're the slightest bit interested in his stuff you'd be remiss to not go to his museum. And the whores in the windows are always fun to gander at.

Posted - 04/21/2007 : 15:18:14 Do not, I repeat do not, take a cruise those boat tours are boring as hell. Check out some nice restaurants at Leidseplein and take a walk in het Vondelpark there are some great museums too and some great record stores

He's not playing the Melkweg, but Paradiso, which is even better.

The gig is two months after the release of Threshold apprehension, so he'll probably play at least one Bluefinger song

Posted - 04/21/2007 : 13:39:05 I got me a ticket for the 15th July London show but would seriously consider going to Amsterdam for the 4th if I thought he was playing songs from Bluefinger. On Dutch soil I imagine that would be rather special and probably at the famed Milkweg venue. But the news I'm hearing is that it's more a greatest hits type of tour.
Don't worry about what to do in Amsterdam. Being there is enough for anybody on their first visit.

Posted - 04/20/2007 : 15:58:53 My wife is there at this very moment, at a conference (ironically, a pharmaceutical conference). She knows nothing of the city, but maybe when she gets back, we can give you a report on what a first-timer might enjoy there. I'm sure the locals can tell you more, but my wife's perspective might be interesting.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |
