Posted - 10/24/2006 : 14:07:40 I didn't have a problem with the audio so much as Frank's vocals. They sounded way deeper than normal. Almost like Satan was singing or something. It was weird. |

Edit: Sorry the JB video has been taken down due to copyright infringement.
Any ideas on how one would go about getting permission to post this?

well yours was done on a Mac Pro. (nice)
I think it was great performance, fB looked good up there and the band seem like great guys to have around. Billy Block especially. He makes me smile. |

As far as John Barleycorn. The song is about human sacrifice to the Gods to ask for a good harvest. |

A rugged but rockin' performance! Frank's voice sounds a bit shot!!

Thank you. It looks great.
As for the comments about bad sound (I'm talking about just the sound/mix, not the band's performance), I sort of agree, but in my experience, performances by rock bands on late night talk shows rarely sound good, so this isn't unusual. It's a good song and certainly cuts through the weird, tame TV studio sound. So, I say, who cares? It's Frank playing a new song on TV. We don't get a lot of that, so I appreciate it.
If you want to hear a great live "Johnny Barleycorn", we've got that terrific bootleg of the band's opening set for the Tom Petty concert floating around so, as the kids say, "it's all good". |

I don't know, not so much what he's singing, but how he's singing it. The thing is, I know it's good, I know it is. I'm probably gonna cry about this song when I'm 46, but i'm just not on the same rythm..."
I know exactly what you mean. I got into Frank Black in High School. He is about 10 years older than me and so I can listen to stuff he put out with the Catholics and really relate. I enjoyed the songs when the albums first came out but now they hold more meaning for me because I've lived and experienced more.
Coastline is a song that was like that for me. It didn't take me years to find a personal meaning in that little song...it just took a love that was never meant to be. |

Posted - 10/22/2006 : 16:21:54 Thanks guys. It's good to finally see the band in action. FB looks lean and mean.
My attention was drawn, however, to what I shall term 'the Duane Jarvis Dance' during the guitar solo. Classic. |

Posted - 10/22/2006 : 14:22:21 Actually, I watched again and would like to retract my opinion - they seemed pretty tight up there, actually. Maybe it was just because I had watched it at 4:30 AM and _I_ was tired. :)
Thanks for the MOV file Derek.

Posted - 10/22/2006 : 11:50:45 Alright, a quick primer on torrents from fb.net.
For those who are intimidated by torrents, there's nothing to fear. It's really quite easy, especially on the downloading side:
1) You download a torrent client. Think of it as an mp3 playing software like WinAmp. Except it lets you 'play' torrents instead of mp3s. Probably the easiest client is the original: http://www.bittorrent.com/download.html
2) Install.
3) Click on the link I gave 'ya, and click on download. It'll ask if you want to Save or Open. This is not the actual Conan file here, but a torrent file that basically manages the download of the Conan show. Select Open. Then the torrent program will open, and ask you where you want to save the file.
4) Done.
Remember that the way torrents work is by splitting the uploading part of things between many sources, which can help speed things along and also eases the strain on the original server or 'seeder'. So it's important to keep your torrent window open for at least a little while after you finish to help others get the torrent.
Also note that in order to prevent leaching, bittorrents download at a rate proportional to how much of the file you are sharing. So at the beginning, when you have nothing to share, it's pretty slow, but once you get going it picks up speed.
Hope that helps.

Thanks COF! I missed it on Friday because the 21st was a Saturday, and then I remembered that Conan doesn't come on on Saturday. (what a stupid looking smiley)

Posted - 10/22/2006 : 09:04:48 I thought the preformance went really well. It sounded great. It looked like everyone was either having fun or really into the music. It was really nice having the sax play live because I've heard that other wise the touring group doesn't have any horns. |

Posted - 10/21/2006 : 16:01:46 What kind of problem are you having with the torrent? Perhaps I can be of some assistance. It should be as easy as downloading the software, clicking the link, choosing a save location, and waiting a few hours for it to finish.

Posted - 10/21/2006 : 15:50:22 I don't think it sounded horrible. For the first minute or so, I thought it did, but it seemed they warmed up very quickly. It reminded me of pretty much every single time I've seen FB or the Pixies. At first, I sense negative energy and disinterested musicians, and wonder why I even bothered to show up, and by the end it was really rockin' and I was dying for more.
Miss Thing, I bet we have many of the same DVDs. My sons are 7 and 4. "Cars" is coming out soon ...

Posted - 10/21/2006 : 15:45:26 If I'm being perfectly honest, I thought it sounded terrible. There was definitely something wrong with Frank's voice, or else it was the mix. Either way, all is well, because it sounded fantastic just five days ago in Atlanta, so I'm sure it was just a bad night. But it is a shame that it didn't sound better for the big Conan performance.
