Posted - 10/25/2006 : 05:59:45 Sorry I missed it. Brian is was nice to see you and Mark in Brooklyn the other night. Sorry my girlfriend tried to swipe the setlist out of your hands. She's a pissfire ... you can see I have my hands full.
Anyone see any press reviews for the shows? |

Posted - 10/24/2006 : 14:36:28 Excellent show!!! Once again, Brian's review is on-da-money. It was great hanging out with Brian and his good friend Dave. This was my friend Joe's first Frank Black concert and he was blown away. This band is very, very good. Re-make/Re-model is turning into a signature song for this group and as huge Roxy Music fan, it is most welcome. Raider Man was definitely a highlight. Such a contrast to the sparse CD recording. I can't wait to hear this band's studio work. danjersey is right, if they are coming to a town near you and you're thinking about going. JUST GO!!! |

Posted - 10/23/2006 : 23:32:13 irving plaza is cool place to see a rock show and tonight it was real cool about 50 degrees. the reid paley trio was a good act to catch what with an upright bass and all drums to boot. i've seen reid solo a few times so it was nice to hear his songs with a rhythm section. good stuff. frank played some songs solo "my life is in storage" was killer, how it seems to become two songs in one, perfect. as where is my mind tired the band took stage for remake remodel and a rock show broke out. i love this band. i had no idea what kind of bass player feldman was but lucky for me i was on his side of the stage. him and block rock. some have said edf looks frozen or whatever who f'n cares he has a helluv a sound. d j on lead brings the goods (i know i'm talking out of the side of my neck here humor me) on so many songs from frank's catalog without skipping a beat or changing guitars. this was a great great show. if you have the chance you must see this band. FRANK BLACK RULES. |

Comments:
First off, this was by far the best show sound-wise i've ever seen at Irving Plaza, which is usually a shitty-sound haven. Everything was nice and clear.
The Reid Paley Trio was great again, playing one of my favorite songs they left out of their Warsaw set ("Lazarus in Brooklyn"). It was especially impressive as the bass player fell off the stage at the 9:30 Club yesterday in DC and hurt his wrist quite badly - you could see how swolen it was when he was playing. A+ for extra effort...
FB was in a chatty mood and was very self-deprecating, as he left his cell phone on vibrate and was talking about how professional it was of him. Funny stuff.
"Remake/Remodel" is becoming a personal favorite early-set number - such great energy. "Six-Sixty-Six" was especially ferocious tonight - really raw and energetic - my favorite part involved FB singing "six hundred and sixty!" "Gynaeshwar" also has grown on me quite a bit, and i grabbed some video on my shitty digital camera of this song and "That Burnt Out Rock and Roll" which i hope to get online tomorrow. "I'll Be Blue" featured an extended solo from Duane as FB tuned up his guitar, and Duane rose to the challenge - a really great piece of guitar work. The reved up "Raider Man" was a real nice surprise and worked 10x better than i thought it would with a full band behind it. "Barleycorn" was introduced as "our human sacrifice song." "That Burnt Out Rock and Roll" was given a nice little intro - apparently Gary Green is a poet who had an "obscure career as a folk singer." This song works really well w/ FB's voice - a natural fit. After this song, the performance started to wind down with the mellower songs closing out the set. "Dog Gone" was a real treat too - first time i've heard that one live.
Great seeing Mark again, and meeting Joe. I took my friend Dave to the show, and he had a great time too. A fun night all in all. And now, my bed is calling my name.

I will however be at the show on the 20th at the Warsaw. Will I have the pleasure of seeing any of you FB.netters?
