Hey Benji,
It doesn't look like 19 Horrible Day made it up there. Thanks for the other ones though.

Posted - 10/31/2006 : 04:46:35 Benji's right. This one is amazing. My version was on a crappy little tape recorder with a crappy little microphone. The new recording is digital, with a much better microphone and recorded in a better part of the room. As far as I'm concerned, it's THE recording from the solo acoustic tour. (But I'm biased, because it's from the night I saw The Man.) Thanks to Thelurker for sharing.

Posted - 09/21/2006 : 09:52:09 hey Cohen,
be sure to send me an email and provide me info. I can send this to you via AOL IMer, snail mail, but I cannot do torrents. Like I said and implied, my recording is pretty superior and I think you'll agree |

Posted - 09/21/2006 : 04:20:40 I'd love to hear your recording of this show. My recording was decent, but nothing to write home about. I presume your superior microphone did a lot better job than my Radio Shack lapel clip-on. And I'm really curious whether Mr. YouTube will ever post his video -- and whether he had the balls to keep taping while Frank gave him shit. I wasn't standing very far away from him (but who was?), but I couldn't tell.

I was there too and i recorded this show with even better equiptment (a MD recorder capable of recording PCM and my 250 Audio Technica mic) and directly front of the speaker on the right hand side. Mine is a straight digital transfer... so if ya wanna hear it, gimme a buzz. |

Thanks for these coastline.

Posted - 09/03/2006 : 08:13:24 Here's the show. So far, I've created just .m4a files, which I believe play only on iTunes. I'll try to make others as soon as I can. This was recorded with a cassette voice recorder and a lapel-clip microphone, and I don't have any equalizer software, so it's not professional quality, but I think it's very listenable.
The highlight might just be the one non-song track, which I've labeled "Hey Mr. YouTube." That's where he ragged on the videotaper. I'm still curious whether that's ever going to show up online. Oh, if somehow the album art transfers and you wonder what that awful pic is, it's the building where the show was. Frank played in the basement.

Posted - 08/29/2006 : 12:22:34 I was at the show, too. Well worth the drive from Minneapolis. I saw Ween in the upstairs portion of the same venue in November. I think Frank put on a hell of a show. This is the 10th time I've seen him play, but the first time I've seen him solo. He's usually pretty reserved while playing, and towards the beginning I couldn't tell whether or not he was enjoying himself, but once he started talking a little bit, you could see he was having fun with it. I was standing right by the guy videotaping the show, and Frank seemed rather amused and tolerant of "Mr. YouTube" (as he referred to him). If he really was in a bad mood, I would have expected him to tell the guy to knock it off. Rather, Frank just told him to cover up the recording light so he didn't get self-conscious. And the whole "really really serious" Song Of The Shrimp just proved that his dry humor was out in full force. I've seen Frank play before an even smaller crowd before, and I know that the guy appreciates all his fans. I'm really glad he came out to Omaha to play. It had to feel a little nice after so many sold out Pixies shows, and festivals, etc. And, although I knew it wouldn't have happened, I humored the idea of him playing Pan American Highway only because he mentions Omaha in it. I can't wait to hear the recording, Coastline. (I also secretly hoped he'd play Coastline, too. But I'm far from disappointed with his setlist.)

Posted - 08/29/2006 : 09:06:14 Hey guys-
I absolutely loved the show. I was honored to have the opportunity to open the show for Frank Black.
Personally, I loved hearing stuff off of the past couple albums. I know that many of the young'n in attendance responded more to the Pixies tunes, as that is what they are familiar with. They could be doing alot worse things than listening to the Pixies ... I know thats what I was doing when I was their age.
Either way, thanks to Frank Black. You were amazing, and I hope that you come back to Omaha soon. We love having you. Maybe next time we can drive out to Scottsbluff and do some UFO sightseeing!
Coastline- sorry that you found my set to be a bit of a drag. I knew full well, going into this show, that it would be a hard audience to win over... but, couldn't pass up the opportunity. Quite a few people picked up copies of my album, so hopefully I have won a few new fans! Anyone interested, you can check out my tunes at:

Thanks Frank Black, and everyone take care...

Posted - 08/29/2006 : 08:53:23 I'll put up the show as soon as I can -- but it's likely to be Saturday before I get to it. And I still feel like a chump for misreading Frank at the end of Where Is My Mind. Imagine my surprise when he corrected me minutes later. (And I thought I was obsessive.)
Benji -- I have no idea was lossless means. Fill me in, and I'll do my best to comply.

This was an amazing show!!! Any chance to see Frank is a blessing, but in such a small venue as this with only about 300 people is really a dream come true.
It was a once and a lifetime show for me...
It was like: "The Dream Came True" as opposed to "The Dream is Over"
...all I need now is a decent recording to relive it over and over! |

Posted - 08/28/2006 : 06:54:17 This was an amazing show!!! Any chance to see Frank is a blessing, but in such a small venue as this with only about 300 people is really a dream come true. The sound was fantastic and his playing was so smooth, it looked effortless. I tried to record the show but couldn't get the recorder to work. The joke about the guy with the camcorder was I thought done jokingly. It seemed like Frank was enjoying himself and like the attentiveness of the crowd. I thought it was pretty great of Frank to play some requests also. Kicked in the Taco sounded great and what a treat! I waited around after the show cause I heard there was no side door out of the place and he had to walk back through to get out. Sure enough, here comes my hero and I got to shake his hand and tell him it was great set and then thanked him for 20 years of great music. He said thanks and took a few steps and then turned around and laughingly said, It's more like 18 and lets not be adding any more years to him than needed. What a perfect ending to a perfect night. Great show and got to meet my hero. Seriously though, Thanks for 18 years of great music Frank. I know alot of people love your music, but thank you for sharing it with us. There are a lot us who know you don't have to, but we really appreciate that you do! And thanks for still doing little intamate shows in out of the way places. I hope that you will come back to Omaha again someday. THANK YOU!!! |

Posted - 08/28/2006 : 06:35:06 Hey all, I was there, and at the end of WIMM Frank was just really into it-letting the song extend a bit at the end. He wasn't pissed at the crowd...if he were; I believe that he would have teased the pixies songs (like in SLC) instead of playing a full five of them.
Frank-thanks again for stopping at my truck and giving a handshake and autograph. (not to mention the great show) Keep the great new stuff coming! Been up on the Mountain, the Water, and Rabbit Hole are quickly becoming favorites. By the way, C#m has changed the way I play guitar.

Posted - 08/27/2006 : 11:27:35 Frank- Thanks for making it out to the hinterland! I thought it was a great show- material from all over, which made the event even more amazing. Your songs have always been the back ground radiation for the last, what was it? 18 years?- what if having a shit job or working up art or making sense of it. So it was something else to see you make an appearance right here in my own backyard. Again thanks for coming out to the trenches and making it all a bit easier. FNetwise- y'all need to get a sense of humor. There was no ill will out there- if just to make a joke to try and stop people from popping a stroblight in your eye. See you know its humor when its done with a smile. And it was a dungeon. But what can you expect of omaha? That said sound and effort were amazing. A great show and a good time was had by all. Cheers Bradman |

Posted - 08/26/2006 : 23:29:54 Frank's playing "WIMM?" because he wants to, I would assume; nobody's forcing him to. If he was really sick of the more enthusiastic reaction to it over a lot of his other material, he wouldn't play it. What kind of artist would want to torture himself like that night after night? What, you think the venues are holding a gun to his head to play the big Pixies' songs? "Give them 'Wave of Mutilation' or we blow your brains out, pally!" I know it's often irritating to be surrounded by people who only want to hear the Pixies stuff, but that doesn't make "WIMM?" any less of a good song.
Oh, and any show that includes "Suffering" is a huge surprise, regardless if he played it the night before or not.
