FB came out, waving to the crowd, picked up his guitar and wham, there it went. In between some songs there wasn't even a break (like "L.A." going right into "the Water"), and he said "Thank you" to the crowd once and didn't say another word. During the last verse of "Six-Sixty-Six" he waved to the crowd while singing. On "Nadine," he once again added a second bridge to close the song out. I am really loving the setlists this tour, even if this particular show was only 11 songs long. Oh, and during the encore for the Foo Fighters portion Dave Grohl said "Thanks to Frank Black for opening - without him, i wouldn't be here" - a nice bit of recognition.

Once again, thanks to Charles and Violet for getting me into this show.

Seriously, remember when Dave Grohl was cool? I remember watching things like Live!Tonight!Sold Out! and thinking, "well, Kurt is the sensitive artist, Krist is the goofball and Dave is the frat boy metal head... but he's an awesome drummer!!". Now... well let's just say I wish he would drum more.

he's back jack smoking crack find him if you want to get found

Yes, they were painfully dull in 2006. In 1996, they were my favorite band.

Didn't you say you found them boring though?

The FF fan reception was to be expected, a bit mixed. No one booed, but people were certainly talking. When he started the venue was about 1/3 full, but packed when he finished. I think the crowd wanted more Pixies songs (all they got was "Cactus"), but i did hear some shouts for "Selkie Bride" and "Headache."

As for meeting up with the man, not this night. He was generous beyond belief to even guestlist me for this show, let alone get me backstage passes. However, the way the venue worked was that certain passes were only 'after show' passes, like the ones i had. So by the time the show was over (let's say 10:30), they hoarded all the pass holders (i would say close to 100-200 people) in one corner of the theater and waited. Maybe 30 minutes later, they cattle-drove us into a backstage room where there was coffee, tea and other various drinks waiting. Then, the security left. No one had any clue what to do - will people come down here? Will we eventually be led someplace else?

After about 25 minutes, the room had emptied out quite a bit, and my friend and i decided to go exploring. We wound up upstairs in the dressing room area, and by the time we got up to the FB area, he and co. were gone. Which is to be expected - he was offstage for 3 hours at this point, and had his kids on tour. But i did get to meet the Foo Fighters, which makes the 14 year old in me very happy (i saw them for the first time ten years ago twenty blocks downtown).

Me, backstage, in the man's dressing room, with the sign from the door, but alas, he had long since left:

I'm seriously considering ignoring FB.Net, especially Brian's sadistic posts, until December.

Well, sometimes.
