I'm pumped about tonight's show. Anyone else heading over that way? I'll make sure and post my review and some kind of a set list. Seen him several times but never solo acoustic. Hope he plays lots of new, unreleased delights. It's funny I've waited years to see him and Bonnie Prince Billy come to town again and now it's Frank tonight and Bonnie this Tuesday.

Agggh, what's with all the loud talking? Why were most of those people even there if they weren't even going to pay attention?

Ha, thanks for these vids. Kept playing a guessing game to find out which were the solo career songs!

I'm probably stating the bleedin' obvious here, but you can nab the clips out of your temporary Internet folder after they've played right through. I have a nice little folder of Quicktime movies marked 'Blueberry Hill, St. Louis, MO, 11.8.06' now! :)

Yeah, thanks. "It's like deja vu all over again..."

It sucks that Two Reelers, Bullet, and Western Star are cut off though. However, I think all the Pixies songs he played that night are on there.... Right after WIMM he ended the show with an incredible rendition of Humboldt County Massacre. That would've been cool to see again. Anyways, good stuff, thanks again.

Post away! If we're asked to, we'll take them down. Otherwise, fair game.

Does anyone know what the actual policy is on posting video clips? Maybe it's all good... Do the board mods want to weigh in on this one? I'd love to dish them...

I was so happy with the mix of Solo/Catholics/Pixies that Frank played. It was perfect. I would post the footage, but I think that may be a no-no. I will post the stills though. Enjoy.

Hey Brian,

I didn't see a merchandise table anywhere. I may have just missed it, however, I'm pretty sure I would have seen one, as I had my eyes peeled.

Wow i was just thinking that, what a great show that was.

You guys are very lucky to be able to attend these nice smaller shows. A treat indeed.

Come to Europe Frank!
Broken Face Posted - 08/13/2006 : 08:33:39
Hey Tom and Bart - was there a merch table set up at the show? If so, what was there?

Nice, Tom. I like the first one without flash the best. Kind of an action picture.

And I would love to see Frank in a small venue like this, damnit.
fbc Posted - 08/13/2006 : 06:37:10
I'm always pleasantly surprised by how intimate these gigs seem to be. I've never witnessed such a thing myself and won't for a long long time (if at all) so that's why these pics and any others are priceless, Tom. I really appreciate you uploading them for the likes of me and the rest to see.

Yeah, following the tour would be nice, to say the least.

Here are some pics of the show as promised. The only clear ones are with a flash, which I didn't want to use a lot. I included the others just for the hell of it. I believe the one where he's putting his hands to his head are when he forgot the words to I'm not Dead (IiP).

tom, do post your photos! as the others have said, we're all wanting to see them & i didn't post mine to discourage others from doing so. sounds like it was a great show w/a much better crowd. would be nice if you could follow the tour around, eh?
fbc Posted - 08/12/2006 : 15:35:53
That's more like it ;)
martha_promise Posted - 08/12/2006 : 15:34:11
I'll try to get 'em up before the weekend's over guys. Thanks.

fbc Posted - 08/12/2006 : 15:28:31
I'd love to see a snap or two, Tom, even if they were voted the 'Official Shit Photos of 2006' by Masters-of-Photography-dotcom. It's great to hear the crowd loved the man for the fact he's Frank Black, not just the guy from the Pixies.

And again, Living On Soul! Holy moly!

But that attitude would be the end of posting pictures from the shows since versionke's pics are hard to top. I mean it's not a competition. Plus, this was another night at another place.

So, please post them anyway. Pictures add so much flavour to the reviews & setlists.

Come on, give us starving folks in the old world something to chew on.
martha_promise Posted - 08/12/2006 : 10:53:34
Just to concur with what Bartholomew said, it was absolutly incredible. We were just to the left of him, maybe five feet away. There was lot's of energy from the crowd. When Frank first took the stage the place went wild and he mentioned that he hadn't even played anything yet. Besides a couple of dudes trying to get everyone to yell out for Massif Centrale (good taste, no tact) the whole show, everyone was really cool.

Dead Man's curve and the "Water Song" were insane. He asked the crowd if Dead Man's curve sounded like an Eddie Money song. I'm not sure which one he referred to. He then said that's alright, he liked the "Money Man." I was hoping to hear the "Rabbit Song" but no such luck. Living on Soul sounded great though, and was a nice surprise.

For an encore I believe it was Goodbye Lorraine, Where is My Mind?, and then he ended with Humboldt County Massacre, which was great. Besides those three and beginning the show with Czar, I echo Bartholomew's statement about that extra drink making it a tad difficult to remember any order to the setlist. The only two songs I think he played that are not on his list is the Holiday Song and I Want to Live on An (Abstract Plain), although I may be mistaken.

Anyways, sorry for the schizo review, it was a late night. All in all it was one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Hopefully I'll get the opportunity to see him with a band in Chicago this fall...

-Tom

Broken Face Posted - 08/12/2006 : 09:34:02
Yeah, last time i saw him acoustic he did "Humboldt" - glad to have it back.

And thanks for the reports from the show everyone!

kelladwella Posted - 08/12/2006 : 09:23:38
It seems that Humboldt County is back for good! Cool.

Thanks for the setlist, Bart.

Now I want to hear some of this please. Anyone who taped this and is willing to share?
Ziggy Posted - 08/12/2006 : 09:15:05
That's amazing. Some real treasures!

Wow. Old Black Dawning and Living On Soul. In-fucking-credible indeed.

fbc Posted - 08/12/2006 : 09:13:43
yeah, you're back, Bartholomew!

I tell you, Two Reelers would be the highlight of any show, but then you had to go and post 'Living on Soul'. I can't believe it. The Man still remembers the chords.

Bart, You've made me very very happy.
Bartholomew Posted - 08/12/2006 : 09:00:05
He commented on how much quieter a crowd we were than salt lake city. As far as songs, that extra drink for FBC clouded my memory some but the setlist went something like this -- these are not in order

Czar
song of the shrimp
water song
dead man's curve -- loved this song - in-fucking-credible, a lot of passion, lot of life (if the rest of the new album resembles this one it will be a bonafide classic)
old black dawning
two reelers - incredible version, highlight of show to me and my wife (big man put some soul into it)
brackish boy
los angeles
headache
wave of mutilation
monkey gone to heaven
where is my mind
living on soul
humboldt county massacre
i burn today
all my ghosts
western star
goodbye lorraine
horrible day
california bound
bullet
sir rockabye
headache
cactus
I'm not dead, i'm in pittsburgh (started but stopped early on when he messed up words)
Nimrod's Son
sing for joy

His voice was in fine fine form. The only complaint would be he cut out any screaming -- but you know, it was acoustic. Great show.
Ziggy Posted - 08/12/2006 : 08:46:25
I'm glad to hear it.
