Posted - 09/30/2004 : 07:29:37 spuds...sounds awesome, I live right near there and I never heard of it. If people meet up there, I'll definatly go.
I've heard a lot of noise, so I'm going to the stereo store, to get a white noise maker and turn it up to ten. |

Posted - 09/28/2004 : 19:47:13 Ok, meet up we should. However, Skully's will cut out the under 21 set. As a fallback, I would recommend Victorian' Midnight Cafe, at:
251 W 5TH Ave Columbus, OH 43201-3236 Phone: (614) 299-2295
This is a coffeehouse that sells beer. How cool is that? I called and they confirmed that they have no age restriction on entry, but you will be carded if you ask for beer. Problem solved.

Posted - 09/27/2004 : 10:04:27 Are we doing this in the wrong place? Should it be moved to general?
Anyway - I got a date! Well, not really a date, the drummer in my band has agreed to buy the tik and join me. If not a hard-core Pixies fan, at least he digs them and we'll have a good time on a drunken road trip to Columbus and back. The real date backed out - money. If I could afford it, I'd give her the tik...but I have to make this money back. She's got a steady BF, so it wasn't a 'date-date' anyway...
I guess we'll probly hit Skully's before the show if we make it on time...or after. The only way anyone would know us is that I'll probably be rubbernecking around the place and making eye contact with as many people as possible - looking for that FB.netter-thousand-yard-stare. I will be wearing a vintage 70's brown pleather jacket, so that might help.
Dig.
Oh, and I figured I'd do this cause I'm a geek.

Meet-up?
(Hopefully it will be an an establishment that isn't only 21+? Eh? Eh? Please? Hah..)
Just about a week away now. If this is going to happen there'd better be some plans made soon.

I am also a Columbus resident, and I may be down for a Pixies meetup...I couldn't get anyone to go with me to the show at all, so I kinda wanted to have a beer or something before hand, I was actually going to go to the Short North and if it was nice enough, I was going to walk. Let me know if you get something started!

Posted - 09/07/2004 : 16:10:31 We shall peruse the Short North and offer patronage to some random eatery before the show - unless I see a meetup thread pop up in off topic. Skully's looks good.
Danke!

Posted - 09/04/2004 : 12:59:15 Hmm. Perusing the pics section of Skully's website, I feel obligated to mention that the diner crowd we've witnessed does not necessarily reflect the crowds in those pictures. |

Posted - 09/04/2004 : 12:30:09 The Short North area on High Street has tons of bars/pubs and good restaurants. What kinda place are you lookin' for, generally? If anyone feels like doin' a Columbus meetup, I'll start up a thread in Off Topic.
There's always Skully's http://www.skullys.org/ food and brew joint (next door to a great independent music store) seats about 20 in the front, diner fare and some vegetarian dishes. Pretty much as laid back a crowd as you can get. There's a bunch of other places, but this one was what jumped to mind first. We relocated here from Chicago about 2 years ago, so we haven't had a chance to try out a lot of places.
Veteran's Memorial is just across the Scioto River on Broad, so looks like it's a quick 5 minute drive to the Short North on High Street, give or take. Feel free to email me.
Here's a site for the Short North. Kinda hard to navigate (blech!), but it's got a substantial list of some of the better restaurants. http://www.theshortnorth.com/ |
