Hi,
Thanks, but I had no easytree account. I'm trying to get one on dimeadozen.org, but so far with no luck.
If someone could seed it on zombtracker.the-zomb.com or thetradersden.org, I could grab it...
Cheers! |

Posted - 05/06/2005 : 10:22:37 Hello folks,
I have home ADSL connexion for one week, and I am desperately looking for a torrent of this gig's DVD. According to the many comments found out here, it is amazing. I'd like to experiment it by myself... ;-)
Unfortunately, easytree.org is down, and I can't find any other torrent file for this DVD. Is there a chance that someone put it back online? (FTP is also good)
Or, if not possible, would anyone be kind enough to make a copy of the DVD? I will of course send the blank media, the return envelope, etc. I live in Belgium (LLN), so if any other fan in the neighborhood could get in touch, it would be fine.
If you want to exchange stuff, that's ok, but I don't have any videos; only performances on Audio CD. (5 Pixies, 2 Frank Black, 2 Breeders, 1 ITW of Kelley sisters on French Fun Radio, April 21, 1994) |

Posted - 10/27/2004 : 06:07:18 I got this DVD a couple of weeks ago and YES IT'S F***ING AMAZING!!
Surely the best Vamos EVER!!
I also got a 1991 Brixton DVD, both watched in the same day and all I can say is that they have got even better.
Get the French concert if you can. I think I'll need another fix of it this weekend!! |

Posted - 10/26/2004 : 13:29:39 i managed to get a copy of this from dave last week and have to say that is absolutely amazing. there are not enough superlatives to express how fucking good this dvd is. dave has done an absolutely top-notch job with it.
this is more essential than the offial dvd.... it should get an official release, but thats kinda redundant with the amazing job dave has done.
i don't think many people are away that this exists apart from those who have read this topic - we need to spread the news.

I've downloaded the Belfort gig, burned it to DVD (four tries but hey, I'm no pro) and watched it this morning. The quality of the video and audio is amazing. The menu and track selection pages are excellent, thank you so much for the effort to include these. A very professional job.
Cheers

Posted - 09/23/2004 : 02:44:42 Dave - many thanks for your work. I'm downloading it now - despite the fact that I recorded the MCM gig and the T in the Park coverage myself!
Have you ever thought about writing a DVB to DVD howto for dummies? I get decent results when I've recorded the stream exactly how I wanted it, but things start to go badly if I need to edit or trim the stream...
I'm also downloading the Brixton '91 DVD. From the comments on easytree, the video on that might need fixing up. Any thoughts about an early 90's special edition DVD featuring the Brixton gig, the VPRO footage and the appearance on the Word?
Cheers! |

I'm flattered, but agree that it's by far the best Pixies DVD yet produced :-).
The whole DVD (including the original recording) was done under Linux, using various different Open Source tools (including some that I have written myself). The DVD was authored with dvdauthor from http://dvdauthor.sourceforge.net - but be warned, "dvdauthor" requires various components (MPEG files, bitmaps and XML files) in order to produce a DVD by running a series of command-line programs. It's complicated, but very powerful, and I think the results are worth it.
I was thinking of doing an NTSC conversion myself, but won't have time for about 3 or 4 weeks. If no-one else torrents it by then, then I probably will
However, I can't find a Linux tool suitable for performing the standards conversion to a high standard - can you Windows people suggest what tool is considered the best at PAL->NTSC conversion?
Also, while I'm asking, does anyone know what proportion of NTSC DVD players can handle MPEG audio streams? My understanding is that an MPEG audio decoder is optional on NTSC players, so will I need to re-encode the audio as well?
I think I've strayed waaay off-topic...

That must be it - I know I heard "prick" . My stand-alone Norcent played it fine as well.

Posted - 09/22/2004 : 02:03:37 Yeah man. It is incredible. A complete pro-shot French performance (90+ Minutes) in almost perfect hi-res DVD quality, plus parts of two other European performances from July--one of which is superior quality-wise to the French show. It really is amazing. I had recently grabbed the 1991 Brixton show from the same place. A nice historical document, but terrible quality. But after finally completing the almost 4 GB download of the gorgeous disc authored by Mr. Chapman, I was completely floored by the visual quality. It's about 1.85:1 aspect ratio widescreen, and picks up every bead of sweat from FB's eyeliner'd face.
Granted, it is in the PAL format, unusable by most standalone players in the US. I have a standalone (Lite-On LVD-2002) that can play it fine, so I have been able to enjoy it immensely already. However, I am also reauthoring it in NTSC, mostly so I can play it on other players, but also for the public good, perhaps. The only concern I have is with the menus, which will look like kindergarten crap next to Mr. Chapman's sexy work (pointers? what authoring program did you use?). Anyway, since it is still really well seeded as of now (9/21), you could download it quite quickly via a broadband connection. I don't know when my NTSC one will show up on EasyTree, but with a few hours' research, you could figure out how to do it yourself.
Seriously Dave C, this is by far the best Pixies document I have ever seen. Simply amazing.

Posted - 09/18/2004 : 02:47:51 Hello everyone, I was one of the people who see the pixies in Belfort at the 3 July 04 ! It was.......... amazing. Well, I'v got this broadcast ( mcm ) on VHS ( good quality, good sound ), I'll copy it to DVD format and I'll ripp to divx (like 1mbps for video/192kbps for sound) and share it on emule/bittorent, FTP if possible.
If you allready have this gig on that quality and that you can share it on the web, pleaaaaase, tell me :D
Well, I love The Pixies, I love them, I love them, I love them. |

On my recording, it isn't annoying at all.
I recorded the MPEG data directly to hard disk and then used a program called "PVAstrumento" to repair it. So you just get a very short (less than one second) skip during "Gigantic". You can't notice it in the video, but you can hear it in the audio if you pay close attention.
But there is no point in distributing a recording of a broadcast with a known flaw when it is being repeated tomorrow morning. Hopefully tomorrow's broadcast will be perfect, but I have a suspicion that it may contain the same problem.

I and someone else both recorded the satellite broadcast using PC DVB cards, and we both got an error in exactly the same place in Gigantic (about 85 seconds into the song - during the word "gigantic"). Did you experience the same problem?
Did the people who recorded it from cable have the same problem during that song? I'm curious to know if the cable feed is sourced from satellite, or if it is potentially better quality. |
