dunno - would advise getting there early and waiting by the venue on the off-chance that there's a fan with a spare ... I always sell spares to other fans at cost - had some for the brixton gigs but none tonight, I'm afraid

tout *spits* price depends on demand/supply as always ... they'll probably ask for a ridiculous amount, but if you wait 'til just before 9 when they're desperate to sell and offer a reasonable whack (say, 40-50 quid) and refuse to pay more you might be ok
tripitaka Posted - 08/20/2004 : 07:14:35
Does anyone have an idea what price would get a ticket from a tout?

I hate to give them business but am desparate for a ticket and it seems my last option. Want to bring enough cash.

Good to know. So I don't have to be that early.

Well, the enormity of what's happening tonight seems to have paralysed everyone at the Forum; nobody's answering the phone.
anglepoise Posted - 08/20/2004 : 02:33:49
Any idea who will be tonight's support (if anyone)? Someone must know.

I hate the Astoria, for the sound reason. Especially when they close the upstairs part, which is really annoying - because you can get a great sound up there. I've been trapped under the balcony before there, when they wont open it, listening to the worst sound I could imagine, of a decent band. The Mean Fiddler (or LA2 as was) is much better sound-wise, I think.

I fell in love with the Scala again recently, cause I sat in the middle bar, behind the glass, and it shielded the loudness, so I didn't need to wear earplugs - I'll be up there for Interpol next month for definite...!

I love the Garage still though, it'll always be a great place for gigs, although expensive.

The Forum is okay... I think that was the first London venue I ever went to, when it was still the Town and Country Club - went to the Creation Records all-dayer 'Doing It For The Kids' which was pretty damn ace...
benji Posted - 08/20/2004 : 01:53:00
yeah, the Bush Hall is an amazing venue.
would be phenomenal to see any band there - tanya donelly was great, but man on man, the pixies would be crazy there...

shepards bush hall is also good.
the astoria seems pretty inconsistent tho in terms of sound quality...had some awful sound there, but at other times it's been top notch...

fingers crossed the forum is a goddan.

Can't share your enthusiasm for the Astoria; it's ok, but my judgment of it is clouded by how much of a mare it can be to get out of.... really badly positioned cloakrooms. Sound isn't too hot either.

For its size, it's hard to top the Garage. But overall I'd go for SBE.

In reply to the person who wanted to know about the view for short people in the Forum.... the downstairs is a flat floor, so the usual caveats apply. Whatever one thinks of Brixton, that's one area in which it scores big time.

The Scala's a quality venue, eh Benji?
Same for Shepherds Bush Empire, I saw the Catholics there and its lovely in there.

My vote's now for the Bush Hall as the nicest venue in the entire world. Chandeliers for house lights? Marvellous.

what are the chances of the vertically challenged seeing a band from a respectable distance?

well i have never been to the forum but 2000 capacity sounds pretty small to me.
and as long as it's a ripper of a show, what difference does it make...

but yeah, seeing them play the scala would be out of this world.

i disagree. it feels smaller than it is cause the bar area at the back is bigger than say the astoria so the standing bit is quite small. and at the front you are closer than at any other venue of the same size. the sound is also pretty good. the trouble is in london theres not too many venues that are 600-900 capacity. the scala, la2, and ULU is about it. saw foo fighters at ulu 2 years ago. mega.
jo Posted - 08/19/2004 : 05:15:16
according to http://www.ticketline.co.uk/smoothfm/venues.asp?VenueId=1666

it is 1350 downstairs, and 760 upstairs - which is why I giggled when I saw some US sites referring to this as a "small club gig" cause it isn't really... Brixton is double that (4,500), but it's still pretty large!
lonely persuader Posted - 08/19/2004 : 05:10:40
well has to beat the 100,000 pheonix park gig...
warning taken jo (what is the capacity btw, could'nt find it on the web anywhere)...
jo Posted - 08/19/2004 : 03:50:08
word of warning, the Forum isn't *that* small - it holds gigs for fairly well known bands, probably not quite as big as Brixton, but not as small as The Garage...

hell, imagine if they'd done their warmup at the garage... lordy!
lonely persuader Posted - 08/19/2004 : 02:19:27
should see ye there if all goes well on my trip from Galway.. really looking forward to it now.. (had missed all the brixton tickets and thought i'd never get to see them in a nice small venue)....

ill be the irish guy drunk at the bar so...
benji Posted - 08/19/2004 : 02:17:30

ok, well I shall wear a really obvious t-shirt... not sure which though, but something obvious. Maybe my Homestarr Runner t-shirt, cause that's good for meeting people - a big white star on a red shirt... and I shall look out for you Peter!

anyone meeting anywhere beforehand too? I've suggested the Tally Ho, as it's around the corner from the venue. and if you get there early, you can get a seat - and every time I've been in there, it has never been packed, just nicely full...
benji Posted - 08/18/2004 : 09:29:40
anyone heard anything about who if anyone's supporting?

I wouldn't worry about it, i went to see the Libertines at the Forum last year & there were so many kids around it was unbelievable. I don't reckon they are too overzealous.

Hi kids,

Does anyone know how strict they are with the age restrictions at The Forum? It says noone under 14 and under 18's need to go with an over 18, so I'm curious as to whether I'll get in or not.

Any help would be great.

ecoutez et repeatez, vive le difference. Machine head are fantastic and rob flynns favourite band is your favourite band.

"slipknot and machine head" come on no need for that

I personally like the killers, and the walkmen, but then again I also like slipknot and machine head. vive la difference.

Shows how much you know Simon when you consider that The Delays opened for them on one of their Brixton nights.

The point is, of all the bands playing V with the Pixies, The Killers are the most likely to open. Personally I am not even sure it will be someone who is also playing V. It was Benji that suggested that.

Don't expect anyone great though.

I'd be surprised if it's anyone big opening, given that it's a relatively low-key warm-up gig ... I'd vote for someone like clinic or kaito - a lesser-known band that would compliment them ... what I've heard of the killers sounded like 3rd-rate U2 wannabees (kinda like the walkmen but worse) ... but hey, I could be wrong and anyway: lousy support = more time at the bar!
