Posted - 07/11/2004 : 15:23:49 Opened with Bone Machine and then into U-Mass and finished with an encore of Where is My Mind? Excellent! They seemed to be really enjoying it and the crowd were mental. Kim didn't stop smiling!I was near the front and totally wrecked by the end. Set included the usual suspects...Joey dropped the drumstick and Dave dropped it again on the way back over.
Anyone help fill in the gaps? Rearrange the following songs into a set-list....... Bone Machine UMass Broken Face Something Against You Wave of Mutilation Hey Here Comes your Man Tame Gouge Away Nimrod's Son Debaser I Bleed Caribou Cactus Monkey Gone to Heaven Holiday Song Vamos Where is my Mind?
They only played for approx. 1 hour but it was a great hour!
Stereos were very dull and I left 5 songs into their set. Still didn't get home till 1am though! What is it with them? They are a guitar band and they just leave me cold? Those nursery rhyme lyrics just annoy the hell out of me. Enough of them!
Support were the 22-20s pretty good), followed by the Stands (scousers and Noel Gallachers current faves - enough said - sounded like the La's without the songs), Tim Booth (good) and Goldfrapp (hmmm?).

Posted - 07/19/2004 : 07:23:18 Thanks to the Nimrods Son advocates! I was absolutely convinced they played it.
Strange that the Stereos attract quite a large female following. Alot of their fans were also complete knobs - there was some tit in front of me in the seats strutting around like a dememted peacock in his bright yellow BBC Wales waterproof. 'Look at me. Aren't I gorgeous and I Love the 'Phonics' What an arse! I only gave them 15 mins and left - couldn't stand it.
I overheard another kid with his neatly pressed t-shirt (Stereos.)just after Goldfrapp had finished their set, turn to his mate and say ' I had thought that that was the Pixies but apparently they were Goldfrapp'. Now tell me , what does that say about Stereos. fans? Hmmm?

Posted - 07/17/2004 : 18:12:30 I was at Move, and it was fucking marvellous. They all looked happy, they sounded great and played a great set. I got backstage and nearly managed to get on their tourbus before being ejected. Balls!
To the person who was upstairs at Brixton - no wonder you were disappointed, it was crap up there. I was realy really gutted with how far away the stage seemed, and how quiet and mushed the sound was (couldn't hear a word of the David Lovering Magic Show!). Luckily I managed to blag my was into the standing area just as they were starting, and the atmosphere, view and sound quality were all infinetely better.

Posted - 07/15/2004 : 19:10:59 It's true, stereophonics fans seem to be quite fashion conscious, hopefully they will throw their trendy jean's and vacuous cd's out their window's after finally being exposed to some good music. Most likely they wont change thier tastes now, music like that taints your mind. By the way if ITV play no pixies on this move festival hightlights program (which they will probably do), Im going to put my foot through the bloody tv. They will of course play 10 stereophonics tracks just to get on my nerves. |

No, but my girlfriend and I did notice that people wearing 'Phonics t-shirts were very clean and tidy, but most Pixies fans looked like no sleep occured Friday night and appearance wasnt important at all! |

Posted - 07/15/2004 : 16:51:01 thats because the Phonics are twatty Oasis wannabes.... easy listening shite, there are too many bands like that nowadays.... Oasis, Manics (although they used to be a great band),Travis.... complete rubbish!

Posted - 07/15/2004 : 14:56:52 heh, i live in manc but travelled to T at the weekend to see the Pixies there instead... sounds similar to the show we got the following day, complete with joey's robot walk. lol! a couple of my mates went to move, reckoned an *awful* lot of people left before the phonics came on. not surprised.

Posted - 07/15/2004 : 14:50:57 John C, I was sober due to ending up driving, but I had pogoed and shouted myself hoarse, having worked myself up into a frenzy - it being 14 years since I last saw the Pixies.
However I am certain Nimrods Son was on the set list I too remember bawling 'I am the son of a Motherfucker' whilst be trashed at the front.
It was good gig, despite the compere, stereophonics fans ,and Tim Booth (who must be shagging his keyboard player) |

Posted - 07/14/2004 : 10:25:25 Someone actually stayed for those dullards Stereo(can't and won't say their name)poor toolan got some stick just mentioning them. PIXES were great, except someone could have turn the sound up abit, and why bother turning up just to hear your own voice, and to the pixies fan behind me saying its uncool to wear a pixies T-shirt, well I'd rather be dead than cool or thought to be a stereoshite fan. It was all over to quick I thought, but then I could listen to them all night, Joey's robot walk was great, Kim looked happy and the crowd were enjoying themselves except the dullards fans, and just when I was getting all hot and sweaty the heavens opened up, can't beat manchester rain(but it can beat you) I would like to slang of the organiser of the event, but I've rambled quite enough, ever one there would agree the PIXIES should'va Headlined I hope the PIXIES comeback to Manchester to do some gigs. But if they don't I can die happy, almost did on the way to the event I don't no why but I was so nervous and I haven't slept much the night before and almost crashed, thank you so much GOD. |

Posted - 07/13/2004 : 08:13:30 Yeah i probably would have remembered if they played nimrod's son, one of my faves, shame still i think for 1 hour or so, 21 songs is a bargin, a nice selection from each album i thought. I just wish they were playing for another 2 hours instead of the stereophucknics who dont especially offend me (apart from being welsh *just joking*) I dont think there were any highlights as the entire set was so fantastic and every song seemed as good as the last one. Perhaps the highlight was that prat from the radio being booed for plugging his breakfast show, the crowd was having none of it. Also did anyone notice that stereophonics fans look quite unevolved, im not into social profiling but they stood out a mile.

I reckon years of alcohol consumption has damaged my brain cells amd my memory ain't what it was. Neither are my legs as I could hardly walk on sunday mroning after saturday's exertions!
BUT Nimrod's Son - I can still envisage myself shouting 'You are the son of a motherf***er!' at Frank on saturday. Maybe I dreamt it. |

Posted - 07/13/2004 : 06:50:10 Hi, i registered just so i could let you know what songs were played, there were 21 in all the setlist from pixiesmusic.com is essentially correct only omitting "isla de encanta" and "gouge away". I confirmed my setlist with three of my friends who attended and they agreed this was the right one, although im not sure of the order, I could of course be wrong but in matters of track listings of albums etc. i have an audiographic memory! Hope i dont come across as a smug git.
Bone Machine U-Mass Broken Face Something Against You (those four in that order, it starts getting messy from here on...) Isla de encanta Gouge away Debaser Monkey Gone to Heaven Tame Dead I Bleed Gigantic Hey Caribou The Holiday Song In Heaven --> Wave of Mutilation (UK Surf) Cactus Here Comes Your Man Vamos --------- Where Is My Mind? |

Posted - 07/13/2004 : 05:26:15 goldfrapp were ok i thought, i couldnt bare the others - jus hawked around the site until they were on. The crowd were mad at the front. Really happy atmosphere. Pixies seem to be the band of the moment - which i was afraid of. might take the enigma away? :( i think.

Posted - 07/13/2004 : 04:21:51 I guess another factor was that I was upstairs at Brixton. Reckon if I'd be standing it would have been more fun - or I'd be dead now!
Anyway, looking forward to some Pixies footage on ITV at the weekend. |

Posted - 07/13/2004 : 04:18:48 So the only difference between my original attempt and the pixiesmusic.com chaps is they have Dead and I had Nimrod's Son.
I'm still convinced they played Nimrod's Son. Yeah, they did. I remember shouting it. That'd be 18 songs plus the encore - sounds about right. |

Posted - 07/13/2004 : 02:27:35 I was at Brixton Friday - and the sound was good - but entirely dependent on where you were standing , center middle was excellent but my friends standing in the wings said it sounded like they were playing through treacle.
Only wish I'd paired off my Brixton gig with a festival appearance, (make up for missing their last Reading set) but couldn't quite bear to see them "supporting" the Stereophonics...

Posted - 07/13/2004 : 01:12:32 I had the car and I wasn't drinking so I wasn't wasted! I insist they didn't play Ed is Dead! I remember my mate asked me as soon as the set finished and I said No. And they definitely played Nimrod's Son!
But then again maybe I've been listening to TOO MUCH PIXIES recently!!
I was at the Brixton opening night and was very disappointed. I thought the sound was poor but I put my general disappointment down as being too hyped up for it. I thought they started slow that night and Winterlong isn't one of my favourites - I just desperately wanted to be blown away by them.

Posted - 07/12/2004 : 11:17:08 Couldn't belive how good the Pixies were at Old Trafford on Saturday. I'd spent a fortune attending a couple of the Brixton shows last month and was really disappointed. I thought they were awful. Turns out it was just the PA system. I'd be interested to hear from anyone else that saw them at both venues. Were my ears deceiving me or was the sound that much better in Manchester?
It also seemed that Frank was singing more rather than screaming. I think this made the show a hell of a lot better too.
Shame we had to have that local radio idiot say that "They paved the way for Nirvana" before they came on. Funny to hear the Stereophonics getting booed. Was anyone around to watch them play? The tram station was packed ten minutes after the Pixies finished. People couldn't have got out quicker if they tried. |

Posted - 07/12/2004 : 02:10:21 Thanks for the reminder ihatetouts. I was listening to Surfer Rosa on the drive to work and remembered Gigantic and In Heaven were in the set.
Also, as you mentioned, Wave of Mutilation (UK surf) was after In Heaven fairly early in the set.
There was, unfortunately, no Ed is Dead.
Break My Body and Dead? Not sure. Could be I'm missing from my list but I'm not 100 % Christ! It's like I've forgotten it all already!
Anyone got photos? |

Posted - 07/11/2004 : 16:26:07 Was a real good gig. I had a great time, could have done without Goldfrapp (i admit I was the idiot who shouted ''Bring on the Pixies'' when she asked if we were ok! I was getting impatient - i'm sure they played one of their songs twice. No shit. It was also very funny when the compere was greeted with a few thousand boo's when he reminded us the Stereophonics were headlining the event, not to mention the yells of "who gives a f**k!" when he insisted on telling us exactly which faceless monkey he was and the local radio station he represented. Yeah the pixies were fantastic. Usual greatest hits set. Nothing from Bossanova or Trompe. When are they going to play "The Happening" live? I'd kill to see that. I seem to recall hearing a couple of other songs though... correct me if im wrong:
Break my body (I'm only 50% sure they played this) Ed is dead In heaven (follewed by Wave, UK surf version) Dead
