Posted - 06/12/2004 : 20:36:51 I was far from imagining that this so called "indie/alternative rock band" that split 11 years ago could have such a massive impact in a small country like Portugal, dispite knowing that there was an underground movement that even got a "sign here" list on the internet as a way of pressioning the local promoters in order to bring them back here for first time since 1991.
8.00pm - There i was (late as usual) at the door with almost 2000 people wrestling to get inside. The Pixies were set for 9.00pm. I got in. Wow!!! i thought,no way, these must be Lenny Kravitz fans, (he was next, at 11.00pm). There were about 50 thousand people in the venue. But then, just as a portuguese band that was playing up on a secondary stage went into the encore, thousands of people started to gather around the main stage. At 8.45pm there were more then 30000 people in front of the main stage. 9.05pm - Suddenly, without any warning Kim got in followed by David,FB and Joey.A huge sea of hands high up in the air and 40000 voices screaming like mad men.And then the next thing you know....
Bone machine crackity jones caribou something against you gigantic river euphrates broken face cactus isla de encanta wave of mutilation vamos ed is dead nimrod's son in heaven i bleed U-mass here comes your man dead velouria n13 baby mr grieves monkey gone to heaven hey where is my mind
Encore Gouge away Debaser Tame
The order of the songs isn't totally correct but who cares... Best gig i've ever been to. They played really well, some of the songs with arangements quite diferent from what i am used to hear in their records.Kim was amazed with the audience and how well most of the huge crowd knew the lirics. Joey sat his guitar on the stage during the Vamos solo, then he put his cigarette on the guitar, and on top of it a hat that somebody threw from the audience. Then he went down on his knees next to his pedals and did the solo only with the pedals, 5 metres away from the guitar that sounded crazy like hell broke loose.FB was himself, screaming at the top of his lungs and being rather polite, he even thanked the croud in portuguese "obrigado".Here is a link to some pics. www.bodyspace.net/reportagens.php?rep_id=53 |

Posted - 06/16/2004 : 09:22:34 " Tivemos a estreia em Portugal de «Hey». " I´ve just read this on a news, that they´ve played for the FIRST time "HEY", since the reunion, here in Portugal! Is it true?

Posted - 06/14/2004 : 01:02:05 I was in front of Kim Deal because I arrived at 6 Pm and stayed for 3 long hours watching Liars and Hundred Reasons Concerts! I arrived at the concert place at 5.30 PM, drinked a beer (the only one that i could get until 04.00 Am) and went to the first row of the concert. From that place I could see all Pixies. Kim seems nervous at the begining but soon she opened up her smile till the end. David was very happy too! They done something that i never heard Pixies done before: they prolongated Ed is Dead after it's ending. It was Black that, after the song ends, continued to play the chords and Kim and Joey seemed a little confused just smiling to each other. Joey has done that guitar thing in Vamos like i did at Curitiba. He dressed his guitar with a hat and a cigarrete like a dummy. When he picked up his guitar stand to the front it was Black that to give him the headlights, pick up the stand just to the middle of the stage, to the place where he was. I think that they played Tame twice, and yes, they played River Euphrates (it was the 3rd song). When they end the inicial set (just before the 3 song encore), David leave the drums to go see how many people were in the left side of the concert (from where he sits in the drums he can't see that side of the audience) and smiled a lot. He was very surprised! Kim was, all the concert, totaly surprised to see so many people jumping and singing! It was a Blast! |
