Posted - 08/24/2005 : 21:08:24 The Pixies deserve to be rewarded financially. They provide a commodity of the highest quality. I don't think performing live in front of ADORING throngs and travelling the world is a particularly "boring" lifestyle. If they are bored, then they may need pills. |

Posted - 08/20/2005 : 11:44:15 i think they got bored of playing the songs 13 years ago. now it's just for money baby |

Posted - 08/20/2005 : 08:13:10 I haven't seen them at all on this go round and I'm already bored with'em. |

Posted - 08/11/2005 : 10:16:31 I think it's amazing that they've got this far through the reunion without getting too bored! As like as they never become boring!! |

I don't think we should be too cynical about the reunion. I mean, there was not real pressure from fans to reform, and I can't believe that cold hard cash could be the only reason for a reunion, it just doesn't seem like any of the bands style (otherwise Frank would never of stopped banging out old Pixies stuff at gigs)
Old wounds have healed, and the band has quite rightly decided to bask in the glory they deserve for a while.
Judging from the new live stuff there doesn't seem to be much chance of them getting bored - every gig seems to find them getting stronger and stronger, and more and more into the music, as they realise that, 10 years on they've still got it...

I'm with Sprite (above) on this one. Its completely about the money. Yeah of course, when you have reformed there is no point being miserable.. of course they'll have a laugh... but i don't think anyone really thinks that it was a coming together of hearts and minds... as Sprite said it is on the record for all to see... its 2.4 kid syndrome... and also the gigs are not really about the 'dedicated' fan, not that they are trying to alienate them... its about appealing to the pixes new 'mass' audinece who obviously prefer the first three records so they give them what they want... if it wasn't then they'd play more songs from the last two... its all about what the 'general' audience wants, because at the moment the number of general, 'passing fancy' fans exceed the traditional cult fan, and since they are doing it for the money, they obviously want to cash in on this, the dedicated fan will got to the gigs anyway - no matter what they play! |

Posted - 06/09/2004 : 16:40:29 If they're doing it for the money, give it to them!!! As long as they keep delivering the quality we've been getting since Minneapolis, who cares about the initial motivation? And i have to agree with frankenspock, they wouldn't be the first nor the only ones to tour for "The Money". Wouldn't you agree that they at least deserve it, how many bands today are even close to delivering such wonderful mayhem? I personally had never thought the dream to come true, but there they are, together again... Make it last, send your donations to the pixies trust fund, or your local dealer, you choose... I meant record dealer, but any dealer with a good deal is a good dealer to me.

The "only for the money" thing is completely silly. How many bands don't tour "for the money"? Touring is where most of the financial reward of being a band comes in, not from recording.
I think he's just being honest, as usual. |

Posted - 06/08/2004 : 01:22:52 Kim comment was a bit sarcastic wasn't it - but I think the joke was more at David for his "nagging mother" than at the crowd. They all seemed genuinely awed by the audience reaction, in all the times I've seen Frank live I don't think I've seen him smile quite that broadly. Did anyone else see Kim curtsie at the end of Gigantic - or did I imagine it. If they are doing it for the money, I'd sure like to see 'em riled!!

I agree. Why did Frank say about a year ago that he 'dreamt of the Pixies reunion but scared it would be a mess (or something)' if it was ONLY about the money (Nothing wrong with hanging on for the price they deserve of course) And I think the fact that
(i) Frank is officially stating its about the money and nothing else (ii) Stunning live performances - better than we could have hoped for (ii) No interviews whatsoever - really winding up the journos
shows up a lot of humour in the approach and even some sentiment.
This post makes me imagine Frank laughing in our faces. It's impossible to trust him. Isn't Frank Black the Andy Kaufman of the last decade?

Posted - 06/07/2004 : 16:40:10 I also want some interviews and I bet Frank might've felt a little akward at the first concert, cause I remember reading tons of interviews where he was saying he'd never do it or he'd only do it with joey. (No exclamation points in this post) :)

Posted - 06/06/2004 : 15:13:38 i would have thought frank may sooner or later get bored so what they'd do next i dont know. he's always writing and forever evolving that surely playing the same songs he wrote 10 years ago (songs different to his present style) would eventually numb the brain.
another thing i was thinking, he's a genius musician and songwriter in his own right , forgetting the pixies records. would he play these songs he left behind purely for money. |

Posted - 06/06/2004 : 15:07:25 I think it will encourage them to play songs from Trompe le Monde and Bossanova....atleat I hope so. I want to hear how they perform those before I hear a new record..
