Do you or anyone else have pictures of the Saturday night gig, I would love to see some if anyone took a digital camera in. I didn't take anything because I thought it would get conficated but I saw loads of people taking cameras in no problem.

it seems a very weird piece of kit, and if it had a mic in it it obvoisly had some purpose other than a prop......

The horn seems to be at the wrong angle / place for the cymbals. If the cymbals weren't coming through very well in the mix on the other nights, the sound engineers would have just used better quality or different mics. I would have thought the horn was to do with the ambient mic'ing of the crowd. Disclive had two AKG 414's (I think) by the mixing desk and a few others scattered about.

they also had 2 Dynamic mics next to the mixing desk as well (Sm58's?) I know the 'horn' seems in a wierd place, but the only real detectable sound at that position would be the cymbals. Unless Dave was meant to stand up and shout things into it...........

Posted - 06/08/2004 : 13:12:43 if it had a microphone, than its to do with the disc live recording only. It must have turned out (on the previous nights recordings) that the overhead microphones weren't picking up the sound properly.....

Posted - 06/08/2004 : 09:25:24 it was definitely only there on saturday ... I kinda assumed it was something to do with disclive - recording ambient/crowd noises or summin' (it had a microphone pointing into the horn) ... then the pixies came on and I forgot all about it |

seems weird, cause none of the other nights (and looking at last nights pics from Paris) didn't have them.... and the actual recordings of the show don't seem too different either... ah well!
I had assumed until now (as I only went to the one show) that it was part of the stage set. I thought it was a huge megaphone and seemed to remember such an item featuring in a cover design somewhere along the line. I think I must have made this up in my head on Saturday as I stood and looked at it.
But if it wasn't that then it does seem odd indeed.
I wonder if Frank caught this mornings celestial phenomenon, the Transit of Venus? To make up for missing Halley's Comet, maybe? My pinhole device wasn't up to much and I had to make do with pics on the web. |

I meant to ask this before now... we all just remembered here. I don't remember it being used either... unless I missed something.. it wasn't there the other nights (according to Steve here who went on all four nights)
was it not there other nights? i assumed it was something to do with the live recordings? but obviously not if it's not normally there, very odd!

The setlist incredible. Benji mentioned in Thursday's thread they should close with Vamos, spot on.It was unbelievable, Joey had so much fun. It was over far too soon. Thank god I've Paris to look forward to.

Many thanks to Bill (Scarla 0) for holding on to a ticket for me.

ooh, I'm not sure... I chatted to Dave and asked him if he had a pen, cause I wanted my ticket signing, someone magicked up a pen, so he did, then I asked the people at the benches if they still had that pen, cause I thought I'd try get FB, cause I didn't care about being cool and not asking for autographs :)
one of my friends said there was some woman storming around saying how FB shook her hand, and while I know that wasn't me, it did make me wonder how anyone could actually hear anything, the music they had on in the bar was so loud!! |

Posted - 06/06/2004 : 17:56:54 I don't give out expletives lightly, but Saturday was just fucking amazing! The rest of my life is going to be an anti-climax. I've never come out of a gig so hot and dripping with sweat, having danced/moshed through the whole gig near the front. Didn't know I could still do it at my age. Most of the highlights have already been mentioned, but I've just got to say how much I enjoyed Kim singing In Heaven and seeing Frank laughing and smiling through Joey's Vamos solo, as was Kim. But I think it's the first time I've actually seen Frank laugh on stage - he always seems so serious.

I went to three nights too and I am more of a Frank Black fan than a Pixies fan, but I think White Stripes at Alexander Palace in January this year pushed them close.
I was there too, the Pixies were approximately a million times better on Thursday.

wow... that's all I can say, Pixies have been my favourite band since I was a fan of music and I never imagined it would be that good. Couldn't have asked for a better last song than Vamos, i know i won't be able to stop singing it for at least a month.
I think it was all summed up for me when i was wandering around in a daze looking for my friend, two guys see the massive grin i couldn't get off my face and say, "we know" |

Posted - 06/06/2004 : 08:21:19 God, its hard to compare three nights in a row.
Thursday I went on my own after handing over £100 for a ticket - thought they were amazing!
Friday I went with my mate also a FB/Pixies nut - thought they were incredible!
Last night went with my wife - thought they were stupendous! (we watched this one in the circle. Actually a lot better than I expected)
Last nights highlights for me were Here comes your man, Monkey gone to Heaven and Caribou. And Tame was unreal - I remember there was a strobing wavefrom thingy projected behind them during the screaming -it was really cool.
Feeling really down today because its over even though I know I am lucky to see them more than once. Am going to try a go to V for a day.
