Thanks, Goll. We had a wonderful time. Meybe the cheer "Charles" was mine.

By the way, this festival left a bad taste in the mouth.
Morrissey who was going to anchor this festival canceled his appearance, and his replacement was not announced in advance. .....I expected FB&TC, because FB said,"MATAME(See you again)" at the end of the Pixies live.....But, to my surprise, the replacement was The Smiths cover band "These Charming Men"!!! The audience left there as soon as "Morrisey" appeared. It was disagreeable for all of them. Some were burning with anger. I felt real sympathy for "Morrisey". His copy was almost perfect. He shouted, "Please come back!!" His sad cry still remains in my ears.

The promoter is guilty.

There is nothing add to your report for me.
Now I'm remembering this live with your report,it's really like a dream:D

P.S. I heard a cheer "Charles!" maybe it's yours:p

It was like a dream. Finally I saw PIXIES! I was in the front row. The mosh-pit was jammed and I was almost crushed down, so I could not help giving up taking pictures (I bought a digital camera the day before) and writing down the setlist.

At 7:20 they appeared. They were greeted with a storm of cheers."Frank!", "Kim!", "Thompson!" etc... Frank had his white shirt and blue-jeans on. He was as cool as I had seen in pictures in this forum. Kim cut her hair short. She looked a little slenderer in her black shirt. Without saying, they started to play "Bone Machine". Audience got excited and became mad. They didnt stop moshing until the 5th song Cactus.I was surprised that the audience sang along though many Japanese are poor at English (me too). Especially Monkey Gone To Heaven people sang loud.

Before Debaser Kim said, "Konnichiwa (Hello),This is the first time for us (PIXIES) to play in Japan." or something similar. At introduction of this song Joey made a mistake, and Frank raised his hands to stop playing. The members all smiled. Frank said, "This is Debaser, isnt it?" Kim joked "This is the first time for him to play this song, it may be."(Probably my quotations are incorrect, sorry.) We all laughed and felt friendly.

I was moved to tears when we all chorused Gigantic. -----I remembered that Breeders played this song in Japan last year. I was glad to listen to this song but missed Franks chorus. -----Without Franks falsetto, Gigantic is not Gigantic, I think.

Before In Heaven, Kim said to Frank "Its your turn." Frank said "No." I was afraid Kim was in an ill temper, because her microphone had been in bad condition and sometimes howling. ---But I worried for nothing, Kim played with a smile all the time. During Where Is My Mind, we chorused Kims part "Huh-----uh-------". I felt we all became one. Kim seemed to be happy, and when this song was over, she added her chorus "Huh-----uh-------" once more.

Last song was Vamos. Joey played very cool solo. He put his guitar on its rack and made feedback. Then David tossed a drum stick to Joey, but Joey missed catching it. Frank saw them with a smile. And when Joey tossed back to David, David missed it, too! This time Frank laughed heartily with his back bending and I joined him. When this song finished, the whole audience burst into cheers and never stopped.

After the set was over, they stayed there. Frank looked around us audience and drank his Heineken Beer slowly. He looked satisfied with a great success. And he spoke Japanese for the first time! He said,"MATANE". This means "See you again". I hope his words will come true! Next time I want him to come with the Catholics.

Im sorry for my poor English.

Trs bien! You can speak Japanese very well.

By the way, I have a question. During the show ,I want to cheer FB.
Which name is popular to call him "Charlie", "Frank", "Francis" ,or "Black"?

Etienne Posted - 07/23/2004 : 01:04:21
Europa yori takai desu ne.
mariggy Posted - 07/22/2004 : 08:34:45
Thanks Etienne, but I have already got the ticket. It costs more than 300 dollers.
Of course I think it's too expensive but I have no money and no time to join Europian festivals. In Japan cultural events cost a lot. for example, a film costs about 15 dollers---this is superfluity.

I'm poor ,but I will be glad to pay $300 to see Frank.

I went to Japan a couple of times and I remember the tickets for Fuji Rock were pretty expensive... I mean much much more expensive than tickets for European festivals so you'd bettre check the price in advance (maybe you already did it)...

Fuji rock is just around the corner!! I'm so excited that I cannnot work at all.
Disappointedly, 4 or 5days ago Morrissey canceled his appearance. I loved his new album and was looking forward to his stage...

Who will play in place of Morrissey? I hope for FB and TC. I hope too much?

Thanks for the info. Not quite, but you can spend near that here, but you'll get beef you can cut with a spoon, and in a top notch steak house.

mariggy,

Well, I save money by wearing out clothes. The homeless had cellphones before I did. But for a good meal, I spend money.
I am looking forward to Japan.
mariggy Posted - 06/07/2004 : 06:03:08
rrrich, thank you. I'll try your recommendations. 'franz ferdinand' was brought up in General Chat(off-topic), and I have noticed! I'll go to buy their CDs this weekend.

thermoplastics, enjoy your trip to Japan!! Kobe beef!? I have never eaten it...it's too expensive. You are a gourmet!!

theyre often around 10,000yen depending on the size. ive found it remarkably hard to get a steak in japan and a decent one at that. they tend to be small and not the best quality meat. maybe ive been unlucky. the kobe cows are meant to be really tasty and are famous around japan.

Like how much? I heard $100 per 30 grams. And, how would I know the difference between a really good steak and Kobe? Although, maybe it's all in the head anyways...

I am going. I have never been west of Hawaii. The Pixies are the reason enough. Plus I ran into some cash, not enough to be constructive, but enough to blow, and with my life style (well its not really stylish, mater of fact its a cardiologist nightmare), why not? Pixies and Kobe beef, beer, whiskey, people who cant understand me, me ditto them.possibly light but polite security. Sounds like a family dinner.

Regrettably, I found that 'Polaris' were not what you said. 'Polaris' who play at the Fuji Rock are JAPANESE...

FB comes to Japan from a long long distance, I hope ,on this occasion, FB to play not only as a member of Pixies but also with the Catholics...Is my hope too ambitious?

Polaris consists of Mark Mulcahy, Scott Boutier*, and Dave Mccaffrey*.
(all formerly of Miracle Legion)
*(both play for the Catholics).
Polaris has never played a 'live' gig so far as I know, so this is pretty interesting.
mariggy Posted - 06/05/2004 : 19:09:36
Yeah, Pixies play after PJ Harvay before Lou Read on the first day(July 30th)!! These three bands are the highlight of the festival.(of course, pixies are the most exciting.)

But on the second and third day, the festival is not so attractive to me.
Polaris? I don't know them, so I try them. Thaks. Other recomendstions?
