Ive seen roughly 12 or 13 shows at the academy and only once can I say that the sound was good. Is the band aware of how it sounds from the floor?
The balcony has really good sound as Ive wandered up there during the last few songs of a couple gigs, but from the floor loud rock bands sound like a muffled horrible noise that you cant really make out any instruments, does anyone agree with me? Why couldnt they've atleast played one small venue?

I went to see the Pixies at Brixton almost 13 years ago and it blew my fucking socks clean off.

Still partially deaf I'm going back next Wednesday to get more deaf.

SOund does range in quality. Went to see Dandy Warhols there about 3 years ago. If you stood under the balcony, the sound was shite. But move forward, in the direction of the stage, and it got better.
Good tip - don;t drink loads of lager unless you like queing for ages whilst the Pixies play your favourite song. Best to stick to some spirits that don't make the bladder go big! You are all warned!

I have been to about 12 shows there in the last year and the sound has generally tended to be good for the alternative bands and poor for the heavier rock bands. The 3 worst bands I saw there from the point of view of the sound mixing were QOTSA, Funeral for a Friend and Sparta. Whilst for bands like Placebo(twice), Franz Ferdinand, Von Bondies BRMC and even Distillers the sound was excellent. I just think the heavy rock bands have the amplification levels too high for the bass and drums and it drowns everything else out and may be the accoustics at Brixton don't help. I would think the Pixies sound will be fine there.

saw kraftwerk there in march, blur in december & the sound was fine down the front for both bands

maybe it was the kit they took with them with the bands you've seen?

this is why events unerve me

i think it depends alot on where you're standing doesn't it?
but yeah, the 1 show i've seen at brixton sucked, but i think that was more the band.

they should have done a 2 week stint at the scala instead.....

I saw Dinosaur Jnr at Brixton and the sound was mush - but then it was Dinosaur Jnr! sludgy at the best of times. Hopefully Pixies will be better. As for playing somewhere small. They could of played somewhere smaller, and then even fewer fans would of got to see them. Seeing them at Brixton has to beat seeing them in some sodding great field "supporting" the Stereophonics....
