Posted - 05/20/2004 : 22:11:56 Today I got my combo order of DiscLive stuff, like hours of shows, and after having just sampled it, I've heard Frank say "suck it" a lot after lyrics in songs...
So I'm like, "Hey you, suck it."
This is probably OT, but think of all the Pixies lyrics you would like to incorporate the phrase "suck it" right after the line, for example:
"Salt rust the cold line" (under breath, "suck it")
I am completely thrilled about the disclive shows, I just feel bad for Frank that he has to damage his voice, although it's going down in the mother fucking blaze of glory (suck it). The melodies are so wonderful, and the shreds are mind-blowing, but that's got to take its toll on his voice box, but he still prevails
My name is chip bitch, and I turn that shit up to ten..}
What I mean is sometimes he screams and we all know it's damageing his vocal chords, but it sound so amazing...
So far from what I've heard of the Pixies reunion, Frank is the most amazing artist I've ever encountered in any media form.
Keep it the fuck coming, who gives a damn what I think.

Posted - 06/15/2004 : 16:11:42 Yeah -- Rock Music def. sounds like "Suck it" but on most other occasions (i.e. live) it just sounds like a little affectation he adds on to the words. Less like "suck it" and more like a little sound he just gets a kick out of making, and probably even makes w/out even thinking about it. |

And....... suck it |

Posted - 06/14/2004 : 20:50:56 Frank says "Suck It" in either "All Over the World", or another song on "Bossanova", can't remember. You really have to listen for it though.

I've never heard Frank's voice blow out. I gotta admit, I disagree with the comment about the show on the DVD above. He has a lot of vocal stamina. Plus, he's talked about having taken singing lessons in recent years. Some of that may have been beneficial to keeping up the scream.
Frank's a pro. If some songs were difficult for him, they'd probably just cut them from the set. Frank's voice is his livelihood and he strikes me as too smart to risk anything. |

Posted - 05/30/2004 : 12:36:01 Could a "suck it" thing be uploaded? I think disclive wouldn't be angry for a 3 second sample.
And of course, suck it.

He is telling the sound board dudes to leave the specs the same instead of changing them on the next cue during/after certain tunes.
Or so I hear.

Posted - 05/29/2004 : 22:21:36 After listening to the Edmonton show, I think I might have heard what you're talking about. During Dead, after the first time he says "Dead," it sounds like he's saying something that MIGHT be "suck it."
Once again though, if he is saying it all the time, why would that be? It seems like an awfully strange thing to keep doing over and over again, unless there's some hidden joke or message he's trying to communicate to the world, in which case I wouldn't mind finding out what it is.

Posted - 05/28/2004 : 05:03:23 I just got out Eugene 4/28 and put it on, and it sure sounds like "suck it" in the places mentioned. What I can't get is what he means by it. I mean, of course it's obvious what "suck it" means, but why would he throw it into a bunch of songs?
Satchitoons: Kim said "We've never played in S-Satchitoons before," probably getting back at the announcer that introduced them as the "Pickasies."

You have to be kidding.

I've not heard anything from any of the shows yet.
I'm not buying into the suck it thing. You're all trying to make me look silly - like in grade school when everyone laughed at my shoes.

Maybe it's me but I think his voice seems even better now...I like
I agree with Crispy Waters, Anaz, and Mr. Twin.
Yup The Champ more fan noise would have been cool!
I have no clue of what screaming does to your vocal chords...but i know like some of you guys were saying smokes are bad...so are caffiene, second hand smoke, dehydration and alcohol. I just hope FB takes good care of is vocal chords b/c as much as us fans love to hear him scream we want him healthy. |

Posted - 05/24/2004 : 05:00:27 The Boise show during DEAD he said suck it-and when I got the disc of the show after-after the long DEAD shout he says suck it. I was listening to it at work and had to go back to and listen again to see what he said-but that was his statement- |

Posted - 05/23/2004 : 06:22:26 Im also very pleased with the Winnipeg show i got , and was lucky to get the show cause i showed up kinda late at the cummings theatre and had to go behind the venue where the buses were and ask some people what the hell they were doing back their, never got a responce..few laugh's though for whatever reason and got my CD..The quality is very good on all of them that i have heard but i wish they had more FAN NOISE in the recordings, cause it adds alot of thrill to listening to it again, The Saskatoon show does that perfectly but hey im very pleased anyway. |

I think that's more easily attributed to his age and experience at the time of the recording. Just think how many more tricks he's picked up or developed all these years later in order to preserve his voice. That's a fairly early show, you know? He was probably still just feeling his way around his voice and blew it out way more than he does nowadays.
As far as the "suck it" thing, I don't believe I've heard it. My question would be why he would do it, that just doesn't make any sense to me at all. Is this whole thing a joke I haven't caught on to quite yet? I guess to save face I'd better finish this off with:
suck it?

Posted - 05/21/2004 : 19:44:41 Like I said, the melodies are still amazing. I think he is a way better singer now than he was, the screaming is a little different. Don't get me wrong, I am blown away by how well he can sing. The melodic parts of song are the best thing I've evere heard, like Caribou is fucking amazing. He has so much more control and tone and power and everything now, I'm glad he never smoked cigarettes. But I know a couple versions of Tame don't sound right because it's sounds more like a a grunt than a vocal shredding onslaught.
All in all... I fucking love the disclive stuff

Posted - 05/21/2004 : 15:27:58 I think Frank's voice is in amazing shape, considering his vocal style. When I listen to the Disclive recordings I'm struck by how much tonal control and finesse he has, especially in the quiter moments, as that stuff is always the first to go. |

Posted - 05/21/2004 : 10:17:58 When I first heard some of the early Canada show recordings I was quite concerned about his voice. He already seemed a bit shredded and to be holding back in reaction. So much so that I feared for the rest of the tour. But then in Boise and Eugene all sounded on the mark and yet under control. The man is a pro. |

Posted - 05/21/2004 : 09:47:04 I think if you scream properly, you can avoid most vocal chord damage. Keeping your vocal chords hydrated is also very key (whether you're screaming or just singing...) I'm surprised my voice wasn't in complete shambles after doing a take or two for the cover of Rock Music (for the 'Hey' b-sides) that my band did...I can only imagine when, back in the day, they would frequently open with that song night after night. ouch. But how liberating!
suck it
