with the reunion about to go into full swing, has anyone got any inclination as to when it'll come to a close? i imagine theyll want to take a break at xmas and the new year, but will that be it? there just seem to be so many places skipped and with europe getting a lot of crappy festivals, many of which are support slots, a full tour would be good. itd also mean i wont miss them.

No we are still unofficial... very much so! But thats ok, we work with well-placed people in the Pixies camp, so we can't complain.

I'd love to see what would come out of new recording sessions. If something did come, I'm sure it would sound a lot more vanilla than what we're used to. Judging from Frank Black's history alone as a primary songwriter, there are two possible outcomes:
If it's music that comes from the heart, it's going to have lots of country flair, lots of subdued vocals. That's where Frank Black is at right now, not only in his solo work, but it shows in the set list line-ups, where Come On Pilgrim has been the obvious favorite of the tour and in Frank's solo shows. C.O.P. has the most country, ground level feel of all the Pixies albums, and the pixies are even playing frank's countrified version of Nimrod's Son.
But if the Pixies cater to their popular sound, I think we're going to find it monotonous and lacking soul. That's not the sound any of the members seem to be working toward in their solo careers, so I'm doubtful that they'd be working to recapture the original pixies 'magic'.

This is all of course just opinion, because nobody is in their minds, and nobody can really know what will happen. But if I were to put money on something, I would guess that this would be the last sweeping tour, but that we might see shows pop up here and there in years to come.

I think they have chemistry...I've seen it. I do agree it would be cool if the music did have a CW feel similar to COP or even more...a couple tunes like some of there later stuff and something completly out there would be cool as well for variety. New and original but with that cool Pixies vibe is what I'm hoping for

as helmut says get ready by new order was a good album, disagree that it is better than much ogf their early stuff, bnut it's certainly different to the stuff they recorded before & they seemed to enjoy being back together again.
Anyone who knows much about them will know that their split wasn't the most amicable & if they can get back together & recreate that classic sound....

Not seen them on this tour (yet) but from what I've heard they sound like they're enjoying themselves...

as for Frank being the main songweriter, that may be true, but there is no doubting the synergy these four people have, the total is certainly bigger than the sum of the parts.

this is why events unerve me

How about us COnnecticut people? The Mohegan Sun Arena is a perfect Pixies size venue @ 10,000 seats.

However I'll drive to Boston to see them if I have to, this would make me VERY happy.

As for Mr. Madtempest... his site no longer says "NOT AN OFFICIAL PIXIES SITE". Me thinks it's now atleast semi-official.

tsk. seriously, the US is doing far too well for itself out of this reunion. poor japan has never seen a pixies gig, and theyre only doing an hour or so at fujirock this year. im still holding out for more UK shows in the new year. that or xmas with friends in NYC or boston.

When will it end?

Not as soon as I personally want it to end, that's for sure...

excuse my selfishness
roomloo Posted - 05/20/2004 : 15:19:54
Sounds like he's saying there will be up to six Boston shows to close off the tour, and with that many and the special-ness of Boston in terms of the history of the band I wouldn't be surprised if they booked some small-ish venue like the Middle East for at least some of those nights. I'd totally go if these were looking to be their last shows ever, but with the rumors of Australia in January as well as the ever-present lure ($$$) to play future summer festivals, I sort of have my doubts.

I know absolutely nothing, but my hunch is medium-strong.

Screw Boston, when the hell are they gonna do a UK tour??

The unending shows will go for so long as to cause nausea and vomiting. Your happiness will be so great that your eardrums will be punctured by the seemingly eternal noise. People who were once fans will mobilize to drive the Pixies from town using violent physical force. Your joy and elation will be so intensely passionate that you will find relief only in death. Enjoy yourselves.

Well, Who knows what's passing trough pixeis'head now? I think that the comotion about the 2004 tour was unexpected. In the begining was not suposed to be so well received.I think. So now, anything could happen. It's on their hands... They have a whole year to decide.

I think that previous solo material s not a problem to a new pixies album. Come on, Breedes really finished around 1994. and martinis? what are they compared to pixies?

And besides that they can remain with all their solo work and do a pixies album aniway. They have inspiration, lust, to do that? I don't know... I hope so
porkbone1 Posted - 05/18/2004 : 19:34:37
I don't know about the band lacking chemistry. One could especially argue that they were just "going through the motions" from 1990-1992 as well. I guess only time will tell, but it looks like anything with the word Pixies on it is going to sell like crazy. Why not record some new music?

A collection of unreleased songs (Boom, Rock-a, etc), or re-recorded classics, or something, but not a new material album (maybe one new song, but I wouldn't push the boat further than that).

I can't foresee a new album anyway. What with Frank's Honeycomb & FrankBlackFrancis, Kim's new Breeders record, and Joey's second Martini's album on the cards.

It's getting colder....

New Order's "Get Ready" comeback album in 2001 was on par, if not better, than much of their older stuff. A ten year break, with each member doing side projects, seemed to reinvigorate the band and the Get Ready album was fresh, modern and relevant sounding. Although historically, "reunion" albums tend to be average affairs, I reckon the Pixies have it in them to make something great. The band is tighter than ever and sounding great, that's a good indicator that there is still a lot of fire in the belly. Another live Pixies album would be a cop out (considering they have just released 15), give us something new!!!

No dates are currently scheduled past Dec. 6. So what he's saying is ... he knows things we don't (which has been the pattern). Anyway, that leaves 16 days for a Boston shows ... or maybe 16 straight days of Boston shows!

Also, of course "the last date of the tour" does not necessarily mean "the last date ever" or even "the last date of the next 18 months." But this is all just idle speculation on the part of someone who knows nothing (me).

DUH, stupid me, i didnt even check to see what the last date that is booked right now is. ohh man am i praying for boston action.

A lot of people talk like it's all or nothing ... they'll break up permanently (more likely) or stay together. But I don't see why they wouldn't do the occasional one-off summer festival over the next few years. There's money in this, they've proven they can do it, so why not?

good question
I don't think they are still together
this time next year
