Posted - 06/07/2004 : 16:12:50 i have a random book on Alternative Rock (by Alan Cross) about the all time top 25 bands and there's a section on the Pixies. it mentions Lollapalooza and thought would be pretty relevant. but how true and who the source i dont know (his own opinion i guess)...
FAST FACTS (...oooh!) "When the Pixies appeared on the main stage at Reading on august 26, 1990, the crowd went crazy. By the time the band launched into Debaser, more than 30,000 people were singing and screaming along with Black Francis. It was an impressive sight, seeing all those kids truly appreciate a band as fresh and innovative as the Pixies. It jut so happened that this whole scene was witnessed by Perry Farrell of Jane's Addiction, another band at that year's festival. Although he was thoroughly enjoying the vibe of the weekend, he kept coming back to the same troubling questions? Why couldn't there be something like this in America? With 300 million people on the continent, why couldn't there bee an annual festival that featured nothing but cool, new bands? The defining moment appears to have been set by the Pixies. When Farrell saw 30,000 people singing Debaser, he knew then in his heart that his concept would work. When he returned home, Farrell began work on his festival, something he would eventually call Lollapalooza" |

Posted - 06/07/2004 : 15:40:36 audiodr: good question- I was curious myself. I live closeby in Queens, but I haven't been over to Randall's yet. My guess is no- it's run by the city, and as far as I know, you can't camp in city parks. But for some intersesting info on Randalls' and the other islands in the East River/ Harlem River: http://nyc24.jrn.columbia.edu/2003/islands/index.html

It's actually slightly cheaper to get your tickets here, through Pixiesmusic.com, rather than ticketbastard. Oh well, 5 bucks down the drain. |

$50 1-Day, $90 2-Day, $250 VIP. What a f-ing joke. California paid just about half as much. This doesn't include Ticketmaster fees either.
Also, in case you didn't notice, it's a Monday and Tuesday. WTF? Are these people on crack? |
