Hey all.

I have one extra pair of balcony seats for the 1st of the 2 sold out shows at the Fabulous Fox Theatre in Atlanta (October 13th, 2004), and I'd like to see them go to a good home.

So here's the deal: Instead of selling them outright, I think I'm gonna raffle them off.

The way I see it, that way, someone winds up with a pair of decent seats in what is commonly known as the most incredible (view and acoustics) large theatre in the entire Southeast for next to nothing – and I can hopefully cover myself and my girlfriend's travel costs to a relatively pricey town 5 hours away from my home.

I figure chances would cost $5, and if you win, that would get you 2 adjoining seats and shipping of the tickets to your USA mailing address via Priority Mail with Tracking and Insurance. Overseas shipping and insurance would be extra.

I will (exclusively) accept Paypal at the following address until October 1st:

<LINK REMOVED>

Enter as many times as you want. I'll count each $5 increment as a separate chance, and on October 2nd, I'll print out each entry on its own sheet of paper, throw them all in a hat/cardboard box/shopping bag/etc... and draw one winner who'll receive both tickets as a matched set.

I am not openly advertising this. I am only telling members of the frankblack.net message boards and a few friends in my hometown of Savannah, Georgia.

This is meant in a spirit of goodwill towards hardcore fans who weren't lucky enough to snag tickets and can't afford and/or stomach paying some outrageous price (or even face value) to some asshole scalper who doesn't give a shit about the real importance of this tour to Frank Black aficionados like ourselves.

Hope nobody thinks this idea is dumb.

Thanks for your consideration, and I'll see the lucky winner at the show (you'll be sitting a few seats down from me)!

Sure! I absolutely hate that I missed the deadline for the Pixies tribute disc (I had a real humdinger of a lineup for that one), but family matters got in the way.

Have any ideas been floated as to the scope, limitations or general format of the next FB tribute disc, or is it too soon to tell?

Darwin and Cult of Frank,

Those are very good points. To be honest, I had not looked at any of the existing ticket threads (since I already had my seats and wasn't planning to travel any farther than Atlanta), so I didn't know about any of the previous debates regarding profit vs. non-profit, etc...

In my mind, I was just hoping to cover the cost of the tickets, and in the process provide somebody with some cheap seats, but you're right, I suppose the response could have been tremendous, and then I guess a case could be made that it was akin to scalping.

I came up with the idea in about 30 seconds and made my post a few minutes later, so the whole thing was conceived on a lark.

All apologies for offending anyone's sensibilities. I'm very proud to be associated with such a nice bunch of folks as the people who frequent this site, and would truly hate to appear ill-mannered or insensitive to any of you.

Thanks for the advice. I'll see if someone in Savannah wants the tickets, and if not, I'll keep you all informed and will let them go at cost to someone on the boards.

I think the raffle idea is genius. If I lived in Atlanta, I'd give ya 5 bucks.

I agree with Darwin. Nothing against you Jim, I'm sure your heart is in the right place, but I'd rather not see people re-selling tickets at a profit, especially when there are others here who bought extra tickets in the hopes of preventing true fans from having to resort to scalpers' fees to see their favourite band, and sold them at cost (some of them even lost some money). It isn't a good precedent and I'd rather not see it.

To be fair, I understand that you're only charging $5 per person to enter, and though that's better than a scalper or even face value (and no, I'm not equating you with a scalper, I assure you), it's the profiting that is worrisome. I hope you understand that I can't support this here.

I'll leave this thread open for now so we can discuss it further if you'd like, but I have to remove that link. You could have people email you that want to purchase the ticket at face value and then draw the name if you'd like, that we support and applaud.

peterradiator I've said before how much I enjoy your postings, but this raffle scheme isn't far off from auctioning off the ticket and I don't think that has ever happened on this board. In the past couple of months people have been picking lucky winners for extra tickets and then selling the tickets for cost. Profits have not been made (or only small profits). Your raffle has the potential to turn a moderately large profit and I don't think that's a good precedent.
