Did anybody else see 50 Foot Wave at the Neurolux Lounge the night before the Pixies show? Or at the Record Exchange in-store? Though I had already been enjoying their new ep, I was amazed at how hard Kristin Hersh is rocking these days. This was truly an astoundingly solid show.

No kidding. I overheard the Pixies merch girl saying that they were the best opening act she'd heard on the tour. That's kind of impressive considering they're from Idaho. No offense.

Pixies fans duped by counterfeit tickets on eBay

If you buy a concert ticket on eBay, you´re a fool. But if you sell a concert ticket on eBay -- and it´s counterfeit -- you´re an even bigger fool.

Boise police are investigating the bogus ticket scandal that marred Sunday´s Pixies concert at The Big Easy.

Dozens of fans showed up with tickets that, although they looked relatively real, were obvious fakes. They weren´t even the right color.

Some were purchased locally from a third-party seller. Many others were snapped up on eBay at scalper prices.

"We had people drive from Florida, Colorado and other places that had fake tickets," Big Easy co-owner Paul Thornton laments. "We had a girl who was crying in the street."

The Pixies show was sold out, so there wasn´t much The Big Easy could do. Thornton opened the doors and let counterfeit-ticket victims listen to the Pixies from outside.

Still, as he says, "It sucked."

Boise police aren´t talking about the fraud investigation; they don´t want to jeopardize it. However, police did say that the counterfeit operation seems to be limited to Idaho, and that there may be layers of people involved.

Thornton is confident that the creep -- or creeps -- will be nailed. Particularly the online seller: "The guy is a moron," Thornton said. "He used his own name on eBay."

Potential charges include felony grand theft, forgery or both. Each charge comes with a penalty of up to 14 years in prison.

Counterfeit ticketing has been a problem ever since rock concerts began. The Big Easy first suspected bogus tickets two months ago when audiences inside the club looked larger than they should have been.

Then, hours before the Pixies show, Thornton was tipped about possible counterfeits. So he personally took tickets at the gate -- and his fears were realized.

"You could see (counterfeits) in the hands of people in the line, and they weren´t even close," he says. "I felt so bad talking to those people."

The lesson here? Purchase tickets from authorized outlets. All it takes is one jerk to ruin your day.

"If you buy on eBay or through some dude at his house or through a friend of a friend," Thornton says, "chances are, you´re going to get screwed."

I only write this cuz people have asked. I was the guy dead center with the "Ramones" Shirt on. I had an amazing time and promptly bought tickets for the Berkeley show when I got home.

Cool. You got some serious attention from Kim at the end of Winterlong, in case you didn't notice. She was kind of shocked. I can hardly blame you for breaking down though--it was incredible.

disclive does not do this show credit. i feel bad, because many of the people i talked to preshow got what amounted to an infomercial for the Spokane show disclive. the two disk are night and day apart in sound quality. to anyone who was pushed by my testamonial to purchase the Boise show i am sorry.

the Boise show was not just better it was much better than Spokane, but you will never be able to tell from the disclive recordings. i am not angry. even if i knew this before i would still have bought both shows and the ones that i order online. i hope that every other disclive is better than the Boise one.

No secret, this show kicked ass. After seeing Spokane the night before, I was prepared to be wowed again and this show was even better. I liked the venue a lot. When we showed up, they were soundchecking as so we waited outside until someone told us you could hear the soundcheck from the bar (unlike in Spokane where the bar music was pumped up too loud).

Wait, wait, wait. If your cam uses any kind of flash memory, you should be able to recover the images. Maybe. There are programs that can recover files as long as others haven't taken their "spot" in disk space.

So, I bought a hat and didnt want to get it all mangled, so I WORE it. For anyone interested, I was the dark haired dude up against the light scaffolding in front of Kim, wearing a Pixies cap, and singing along the entire time.

They were way out of their league, sounded like a band that should be playing highschool keg parties. I thought the crowd was very nice to them considering, but me an my friends kept singing "9 to 5" cuz one of their songs sounded like a slow version of that tune.
The important part was the "Pixies" by the way I was one of the dorks who flew in from LA and was sitting outside the venue at noon. My friend was the first to see Frank at the Starbucks. I was gonna run over and see him, but I hate the fact that the last time I met him I got really nervous and probably looked like an idiot. So I just hung out while everyone else went over.
Loved hearing them warm up, we called friends back home and tortured them by making them listen to "Crackity Jones" and "Velouria".
We ran in front and center and did not move the whole show. The whole crowd was cool except for two guys who tried to get in front of me and shove my girlfriend out of the way. They learned pretty quick that was not gonna happen, it sucks that a few people cannot get into the spirit and be cool, but oh well.
Every member of the band was exactly like a remember them. Dave the guy you know would be a blast to go drink with, Joey the workman like guitar hero, Kim the super cool older sister, and Frank well he is just always a little bit more talented then the rest of us. Thank God they are back together if only for a while. for whatever reason they just are better when they play together, with all the mistakes and I am sure bickering. Something about them as a group just works.

I didn't notice many girls in the front row. Were you wearing a hat sometimes, with a blondish girl in a black top?

feeling a bit more stable now that i had a show under my belt(i was a terrible mess pre-show on sat.) i was ready to absorb as much as possible. from the beginning i could tell that things were different. an older, better crowd, smaller venue and about two minutes into the set i knew that there would be no Pixies prisoners, they were to kick all of our asses. they rocked harder than i thought that they ever would. Frank had that little glimmer in his eyes, the one that is part mischief and part domination, as he looked over the crowd. the jeporady riff was great, i remember that from before, right in the middle of what is now my favorite Vamos ever. Umass, my alma mater, was a treat. Winterlong was cool. i have always wanted to see them play it. the looks on people faces were priceless. Kim received a chant from the crowd around me. she responded in a way that only she could. saying that she was the only one that ever had been to Boy-zee, then ask the rest of the band if they had been to Boy-zee. she is so cute. when the house lights went on i knew that the Pixies on two consecutive nights had given me just what i was longing for. i will not forget how amazing they were.

Hey...a little of topic, but interesting trivia...

I swore I thought the Breeders opened up for Nirvana in Boise at the end of '93. After listening to the DiscLive CD, it is confirmed... Kim said "I think I'm the only on that's ever been to Boy-Z." So, there you go.

Okay, I guess after working all day yesterday and sleeping twelve hours straight to catch up, I am ready to tell you all about Boise. It was really an amazing day. We got there around noon, and there were only a handful of devoted fans in line at the time, so we decided to walk around the city a bit. The others in line had said they'd spotted Frank earlier at a Starbucks, so we thought we might run into someone. We actually did see Joey walking alone on the other side of the street from us, and later we saw

okay excuse me, the fire alarm just went off at work, now I'm back....

We saw Dave going in to a bistro to get a bite to eat, and we caught him on the way out. Totally nice guy, way layed back. We told him how much we enjoyed his Magic Act (when he opened for Frank and the Catholics in Portland a few years ago), which he appreciated. I asked him why they chose Boise of all places to play, and he simply said they are just working their way down to Coachella. By this time, our conversation was dying down, so I asked him if I could give him something. He didn't really expect that, but he said sure. I gave him a CD of my own band, and told him that they've inspired and given so much to us and so many others, I just wanted to give a little something back. He accepted it and said he'd even listen to it on the bus. Wicked awesome. I know nothing will come of it, but just the fact that the Pixies have my CD is really cool. We went back to sit in line, and a little while later Dave came walking past the venue, and my friends and I were the only ones who recognized and waved to him. THAT IS WHY HE'S GOT THE MULLET/BLACK LEATHER GET UP. So he can go where he wants and not be bothered. Good idea. At around 4 pm the bar that is connected to the venue opened up and let all the people in line come in and take a number to get in at 7pm, which was awesome, we could walk around, get food, drinks, etc. and not lose our spot. The Record Exchange did the same thing when the tickets went on pre-sale, which was really nice.

One of the coolest parts of the day came while waiting in the bar. The venue is connected by an open doorway that was blocked by a bouncer and a curtain, but the Pixies started soundchecking right next door. Wow, what a tease. They went through Velouria, Cactus, Debaser, I Bleed, U-Mass, and I got my hopes up because I swear that I heard Joey play his first four notes of Is She Wierd, but unfortunatly they didn't play it that night. But as the band soundchecked, the whole bar of about 40 fans was singing along and applauding madly at the end of each number. It was so cool. Finally the doors opened, and we got our spot down in front between Frank and Joey. Really small place, but it was really a nice venue. The opening band was called The Invasion, and like I said before, I do not know how they got this gig. They were alright, sounded similar to Muse, but they were really tame, lacked energy, and you could tell they were really nervous. But they did play well, and there were no breaks between songs which kept things moving.

Finally, it was the Pixies turn. The roadies came out to get things ready and taped the setlist down in front of us, so we got the sneak peek. So the band comes out, and everyone goes nuts. They waved a bit, then put on their instruments and never let back for a second. Opening with Planet of Sound, the band pummeled the audience from start to finish, and I was so glad to hear at least one track from Trompe. The crowd was into it, yet not too out of hand with the whole moshing and shoving. And thank goodness no crowd surfers, the most annoying thing is when you are concentrating on the band, and some moron gets thrown onto your head. The band played fairly well together, Kim was a little sloppy on some parts, but obviously having a good time. Joey messed up a time or two, but no big deal. They're Pixies, but still human. Not much banter inbetween songs, until the crowd started chanting Kim's name, then she said it was her first time in "Boy-zee" (it's really pronounced "Boy-cee" for all of you out of staters.) and asked everyone else in the band if they'd been before. Joey hadn't, Frank and Dave had. The setlist was solid, nothing new, but everything rocked. I was especially surprised to hear "Hey" and "Cactus" a few songs into the set, because they weren't on the setlist. On Vamos Joey ripped it up with Dave's drumstick. They played only "Velouria" off of Bossanova, and even though I loved it to death and would have liked to hear more off of the album, the crowd wasn't as into it, so I can see why they're concentrating on the Pilgrim-Doolitle era. I was also hoping to hear "La La Love You" in an encore, but no luck. Dave was even wearing his microphone head gear, but no dice. Black really can scream those songs out, especially on "Broken Face", "U-Mass" and "Caribou". "Tame" was intense, and played quite a bit faster than the recorded version. "Wave of Mutilation" and "No. 13 Baby" were really tight and highlights for me. The band stopped, took off their instruments, and waved to the crowd a bit. After giving my band's CD to Dave earlier, I'd gotten 3 more out of the car and attached notes on each of them, one for Joey, Frank, and Kim. I got Joey's attention at this point and motioned to give it to him. He said he didn't have a pen to sign anything, and I yelled to him no, it's for him. He was caught a bit off gaurd, but leaned forward and took it, glanced at the note for him, and gave me a nod of thanks. He then shooke hands/hi-fived the people in front around me. On the setlist, there was only a ? for an encore, so I didn't know what to expect. After a few minutes of cheering, the band re-emerged to play I Bleed, Gigantic, and Caribou, which turned out to be a great closer, Black really belted out the "Repent!" lines. They were exiting the stage again, and Joey gave my friend next to me his set list. I tried to get Frank's attention to give him a CD, but he didn't seem too intersted. A roadie after the show said he would get Frank's and Kim's CDs to them. I had been screaming/singing my heart out the whole night, along with those around me, but I guess as a whole the crowd didn't deserve a second encore. A roadie came out and flashed a flashlight to someone in the back, the house lights came on and a DJ came on over the loud speaker telling us to give it up again for the Pixies, which of course the crowd hadn't stopped doing. Some people were complaining about no second encore, to them I say the Pixies are not dancing bears. THEY PLAYED BOISE IDAHO IN THE FIRST PLACE. IS THAT NOT ENOUGH TO BE GRATEFUL ABOUT? We got an encore, it was awesome, as was the rest of the show. It ended up being 25 songs, which isn't much different from most of the prevoius shows they've played. I loved every second of it. I was grinning like a madman from ear to ear the whole time they were up on stage, except for when I was yelling along with Frank. It was great to take a second during the show to look around me in the crowd and see everyone so happy, even catching the eyes of other forums members and knowing exactly what they were thinking: THE PIXIES ARE 3 FEET AWAY FROM ME, AND THEY'RE BLOWING THE ROOF OFF OF THIS PLACE! What a surreal feeling, to be right in front of the best band in the world, one you thought you would never see, (Last year at this time, I would have sooner expected Mr. Cobain to rise from the grave and reform Nirvana than to be seeing all 4 Pixies back together), and on top of all of that in Boise, my home state, where nothing like this ever happens. I had no problem driving all through the night afterwards, I was so excited to have been a part of this. I'll see them again next week at Coachella, and in the fall at Bumbershoot, but never again in a 1,000 capacity club. I still can't get over it. I wouldn't have changed a thing.

A BIG THANK YOU TO FRANK, JOEY, DAVE, AND KIM FOR COMING OUT TO PLAY FOR US. WE WERE THOROUGHLY ENTERTAINED AND GRATEFUL. KEEP ON ROCKIN'.

It was great, wish that you all could have been there. This post is lengthy, but I just wanted to share how great it was.

It was a fun show. Where was everyone situated? We ended up on the right edge of the stage in front of the charming Kim who, incidentally, earned her own "Kim, Kim, Kim" chant toward the end.

Are any of you the red-haired guy in the middle front who really got into "Winterlong"? That was cool.

Question: Is anyone else disappointed that these 2-disc sets have no excuse being two discs? My entire Boise show comes in under 70 minutes.

A note about the setlist: I might've been drunk or something (on Pixies) but I spoiled things by reading the setlist before they started playing, and to my memory it seems like only the first 18 or 19 songs were on there. The point at which Kim asks who all had been to Boise before (amusing moment between her and Dave) seems almost like between sets. Maybe I was imagining it.

I felt hamstrung and frustrated at the end because I thought we could've coaxed at least another 3 or 4 songs out of them, but people around me kept giving me "looks" whenever I'd try and scream with my non-existent voice. My thoughts: "People, we are at a rock and roll show, and the Pixies are about ready to stop playing if we don't do something about it." I was MAD at the kids around me for not doing their part. Poo heads!

Joey looked really cool. He is a master craftsman--very businesslike, which explains the consistency of his wailing. He had some rope-a-dope glasses on and a bowling shirt.

Frank looked same as last time seen with the Catholics. Maybe a pound or two slighter. He appeared less excited to be on stage than I would've hoped. But his "scream[ing] like you hate that bitch" had gotten better than the first few shows (based on recordings I had heard). I envy the Europeans, who will probably get the fully-seasoned screamer doing " . . . and God is seven" like he did in the old days.

Kim looked uncomfortable/nervous, but seemed to always be stifling a smile. She has an adorable, sincere, kiddie smile that came out now and then. There's a worn area below the strings of her bass where her pinky finger has rested for who knows how many hundreds of live shows. For a pinkie to have been able to do that, it has got to be around a million hours of playing. She was wearing a black shirt with a false collar and apparently stenciled-in false stitching. She had sweat pant-looking things on as well.

Dave L looked very, very scary. His hairdo could only be described as a "wide-load" mullet. It needed a sign, like those trucks. He was spot-on behind the drums though.

It was weird when they all came to the front toward the end. I was waiting for them to form a line and bow and have a little girl bring them bouquets of roses.

DiscLive stayed at the same motel as me and my wife. Not bad location and cheap.

Roomloo(mer): God bless you and send you straight to heaven after a life of the exact number of years you want on Earth. This guy is like the Make a Wish foundation for people who didn't get tickets in the beginning.

Good show.

the opening act was called The Invasion. I have not a clue how they landed such a gig, either. they weren't bad-- a little mellow for my taste, but I imagine any band might seem that way when you're anticipating such an act as this.

was anyone near the group of arseholes (somewhere between 3-7 of them) who kept pushing their way through the crowd and acting like idiots? I seriously just about punched one of them (and I rarely ever draw out my fists, largely due to me being a huge wussy) until the chick next to me promised she'd hit him in the nuts on the way out. seriously-- this guy really put a damper on the first 5 or so songs for me, just for being a prick.

very good time, though.

was a sweet show, crowd was really into it. whassup aaron! we missed you man. all the livecd people say whassup. after the show dorko & i were yelling at miles the sound guy, trying to get him to rip a knob off one of the marshall stacks and give it to us, but he wouldn't. nor would he sell us one of his t-shirts for five canadian dollars. we'll have to grease the wheels in eugene.
hey aaron, people i've shown are all really digging the pendant. you gotta make some more, advertise them here, make one zillion dollars. for those who don't know, marbleslinger's a very talented glass blower.
and the pixies freakin' rule.
on to eugene! peace.

2. Bone Machine
3. Levitate Me
4. Hey
5. Cactus
6. Debaser
7. Broken Face
8. Tame
9. Velouria
10. U Mass
11. Crackity Jones
12. Vamos
13. Holiday
14. Where Is My Mind?
15. Winterlong
16. Here Comes Your Man
17. Nimrod's Son
18. Monkey Gone To Heaven

ENCORE

I'd be really jealous too. There's Nothing Wrong With Love and Perfect From Now On are just about the only 2 CD's that have kept the Pixies and the Catholics out of my stereo lately.
