Posted - 04/22/2004 : 04:27:47 I might be mistaken, but I think I remember the Pixies playing their encores with the house lights on when they toured Bossanova in 1990. Lots of disgruntled people heading for the exits and then suddenly heading back again when they reappeared. Of course, I may have dreamt it, or got mixed up with another band. |

Is that the video where the camera switches from Frank to Kim to Joey to David to Frank about 5 times a second?

1898? Shit, you really got into the Pixies early didn't you. |

Posted - 04/23/2004 : 04:12:54 I was at that show and don't remember that. The lights on encore stuck in my mind from a show in Portsmouth the year before. I'm obviously getting old. |

Posted - 04/22/2004 : 14:09:03 I saw them do the encore with the lights on in Champaign, IL in late 1898 or early 1990 (can't remember the exact date). They were doing a benefit show for a University of Illinois professor's kid with cancer. Awesome show. I didn't know the Pixies much back then, but the one thing that stuck with me about the show was the lights on encore. |

Posted - 04/22/2004 : 09:45:54 You just never know what to expect when Frank's running the show. I've never witnessed it personally, but he used to omit an encore when he felt the crowd in general wasn't truly asking for one. Lights on, lights off...the Franker.

Posted - 04/22/2004 : 09:03:38 I wonder if after the lights going on in Saskatoon they decided they liked being able to see the crowd and make some sort of contact with them? I'm under the impression that Saskatoon's lights going up were an accident...

Posted - 04/22/2004 : 08:59:41 last night they asked for the lights on during the encore.
it was pretty weird, but did not affect the enjoyment of the show at all.

Posted - 04/22/2004 : 07:09:49 The EELS are also known for doing 2 or 3 encores. The last usually with the house lights on and with half the crowd gone.

Posted - 04/22/2004 : 06:50:20 when i saw FB in 2001, feb 14th to be precise, when he came back on to do the encore, he turned on the lights himself (there are switches at the side of the stage), so he could get a proper look at us all... then played. was quite funny.

Posted - 04/22/2004 : 04:47:20 When they toured with Doolittle, a lot of times their encore was Gigantic, and they always turned the house lights on. |
