Posted - 04/19/2004 : 23:08:10 i know there isnt one yet, but with any luck itll be announced soon. ive prematurely given up on any more UK dates after the US tour and given that circumstances have led me to be on a different continent or just 100s of miles from every show theyve announced so far, ive decided not to miss them after my 3rd dream in a week about seeing them live (me and frankie boy were hanging out outside the show last night. he promised to play trompe le monde).
anyway, say hi if youll be going to new york, can recommend somewhere to stay, eat, get coffee, etc.
rich (in japan, later england, for a short time, nwe york)

Posted - 04/23/2004 : 17:27:01 I'm in New York- I'll be happy to help anyone out with city info, where to stay, etc. Getting around on the subway is ultra-easy. If you can find a cheaper hotel in one of the boroughs, go for it. Just stay fairly close in- Astoria, Greenpoint, Williamsburg, etc. Don't put yourself all the way out by JFK.
You can find coffee ANYWHERE in New York, and that goes for food too. Restaurants usually post their menus in their windows.
Look forward to meeting some of you! p.s. when things are finalized, ask me about the sky train at JFK. You'll need to know this if you fly in. |

Posted - 04/21/2004 : 17:16:09 Chicago had 4 dates of shows - do you think NYC will get the same treatment???
I would gues they'd play at Hammerstein. Bowery is just too small... |

Posted - 04/21/2004 : 08:25:21 I was wondering too where they will play in the city . . . Hammerstein will be the best to accomodate a large crowd. I think Roseland is too small and Irving as well (too small). I would love for them to play about 4-5 shows at The Bowery; that would be great! Could they just friggin' announce already, though! |

Posted - 04/21/2004 : 07:20:02 Don't stay in the city? Why the heck not? It isn't that expensive (I mean, unless you want it to be) and the cost of commuting in and out is a total waste (put it towards your room). Especially if you have never been to NYC, you should totally stay in the city. Live it up a bit, right? You could spend a month in the city and not do the same thing twice. I live in NJ but go in all the time for shows and just because it is the greatest city in the world (cheesy, but true). So anyway, when the time comes I will be more than willing to give recommendations. Can't wait to see those shows on sale. I wonder where they will play? Probably the Roseland. Perhaps Hammerstein. Anyway, look forward to hooking everyone up with good info... |

Posted - 04/20/2004 : 16:20:07 I don't even stay in NYC when I do a show there. I stay in north Jersey and we drive in or take the train in. But it is a great place to see a show in warm weather and hang out all night. |

Posted - 04/20/2004 : 16:19:26 I live in NJ but travel into the city almost every other weekend. My favorite place to eat there is Blue Dust, it's a southern styled restaurant, de-lish. I will be going to any shows in this area, too. So, when the time comes around maybe i'll give you an email. |

Posted - 04/20/2004 : 16:12:55 If you don't want to be all touristy, I suggest chilling in brooklyn. Though williamsburg's being exploited, its still a damn good time. If you do want to be all touristy, start in time sq, walk up 7th to the park, throw a fisbee, go to the zoo, its cheap, see the polar bears and monkeys, then walk down 5th ave, visit st pat's, and end up at the Empire State Building at sunset. Go up to the higher level, about the observation deck, and kiss you girlfriend as the sunsets. And then throw a penny off the side.
Also, best cheap time in the city is a show at the Upright Citizen's Theatre. They do them seven nights a week. All shows are between $5-7 except for A.S.S.C.A.T. on sunday, which is free, and often stars such people as Andy Ricter and many SNL cast members, as well as the U.C.B. cast themselves. Godd bar by the theater-Pete McManus'. They filled the highlander there and Horatio Sands is a regular.
Good dive bar, if your looking, are Grassroots tavern on saint marks, Nancy Wiskeys off of canal, over by the ghostbusters fire building, or the patriot, down by the WTC crater. Be sure to take the PATH train in, they circle the damn thing. Its like 9-11:the ride. At least that area stopped smelling like ashes and spent gunpowdwer. There's only so much of that you can take.

Posted - 04/20/2004 : 07:38:33 I have to say DON"T stay outside new york city if you are going to new york for the first time, or for a short time. There is nothing worse than sitting on annoying public transportation twice a day just to get to your hotel. Just search for a cheap small hotel room. You won't spend much time there but it is worth it. No it won't really be cheap, but it will be awesome. Eat cheap good food at DOJO on 4th st. just east of Washington Sq. park.
Oh, and if you do one thing, other than see the pixies... WALK OVER THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE. its really fun and beautiful.

Posted - 04/20/2004 : 05:59:21 i live about 8 miles from NYC, and for pure cheapness i'd say try and stay outside the city - it'll save you a bunch of money. but, if you're going to stay in the city, go for the chelsea hotel just for cool nostalgic reasons (its where sid viscious killed his girlfriend for one). i'd try and book your whole trip using orbitz, i've had very good luck with them
