just a few days ago someone posted a scan of a guitar-magazine's story about the pixies guitar set-up.
It said that Joey never was into chorus(or a-like) effects
listening to the shows I can definately hear some wah-wah, chorus or things that I haven't heard on the pixies bootlegs before.
Did he change his mind?

ps
Does he still play on a borrowed les paul? (borrowed from kim that is)?

thanks... so what's the secret handshake . Maybe you can show me at the 11/11 show I am sorry but I am in a sarcastic mood today...

Daisy Girl, I am here to help, in an authoritarian, charismatic sort of way. More of this will be explained when I begin a new thread (when I get around to it. I'm currently both busy and gimpy). But in response to your last question, I believe the term "Cult of Frank" has already been thrown around, and is also the name of one of our wonderful moderators. I won't try to claim anything pertaining to that. And I believe that in one way or another, we're all already members of the cult of the Pixies. It hasn't been too terribly defined, but you know who you are if you're part of it. Hell, if you have a dozen posts on this forum, you're a member whether you like/admit it or not. I would be apprehensive about a cult of Kim or David. Not that they don't deserve one, but their respective personalities and characters I don't believe lend themselves to make them the center of a cult. I think they scream CLUB. I'm only interested, at this point in time, in developing a cult of Joey. The purposes and intentions (completely harmless, yet severly devotional) will be explained in this impending thread I keep saying I'll start. I don't know if this answers any of your questions.

Daisy Girl Posted - 04/20/2004 : 15:27:21
Prozacrat... I'm confused... per the definition of cult, below which type of cult would I be joining???

cult.
cult ( P ) Pronunciation Key (klt)
n.

A religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader.
The followers of such a religion or sect.
A system or community of religious worship and ritual.
The formal means of expressing religious reverence; religious ceremony and ritual.
A usually nonscientific method or regimen claimed by its originator to have exclusive or exceptional power in curing a particular disease.

Obsessive, especially faddish, devotion to or veneration for a person, principle, or thing.
The object of such devotion.
An exclusive group of persons sharing an esoteric, usually artistic or intellectual interest.

Also can I join the cults of Frank, Kim, Joey AND David...or is it just the cult of the Pixies... please help I am so confused!

Oh, and Havalina too!

prozacrat Posted - 04/20/2004 : 15:24:04
Hey, looks like more are on board now. ShaunWestphal, I'll take your submissive "If Passion's in, I'm in" as your request to join. CroutonFuton, I assume you're referring to the Cult of Joey since you mentioned the sound of God headbanging. I think I'll start a new thread in the general Pixies discussion area.

ShaunWestphal Posted - 04/20/2004 : 15:11:18
I'm gonna go out on a limb and take that as a compliment. Thank you Passion.

Wherever Passion goes, I will follow...
The Passion Of El Diablo Posted - 04/20/2004 : 15:10:25
You already are a one-man Passion cult.
ShaunWestphal Posted - 04/20/2004 : 14:58:02
Passion, all I give you is support, and this is the way you treat me? BTW I was talking about the cult of Joey. Cult of Passion? Wouldn't be bothered...

Wherever Passion goes, I will follow...
The Passion Of El Diablo Posted - 04/20/2004 : 14:56:13
Crouton,
Which cult? Joey's? Mine? Both?
TheCroutonFuton Posted - 04/20/2004 : 14:55:01
I'll join the Cult! The sound of God headbanding is indeed a glorious sound...
The Passion Of El Diablo Posted - 04/20/2004 : 14:54:39
ShaunWestphal,
Please don't join the Cult of Passion. I don't want to ruin my good name on the board.
ShaunWestphal Posted - 04/20/2004 : 14:52:13
If Passion's in, I'm in.

What about a Cult of Passion?

ok, thanks, but there are some sounds that he didn't use before right?

I'll join as well.
I was re-converted on 4/13.
prozacrat Posted - 04/19/2004 : 19:01:16
Naturally. Should I start another thread and leave this one for discussion on his performance during this tour, which I guess it was originally about before we got sidetracked on his divinity?

The Passion Of El Diablo Posted - 04/19/2004 : 18:58:43
Prozac,
I'm in, at least till I start my own competing spin-off cult.
prozacrat Posted - 04/19/2004 : 18:45:47
Okay. Cult of Joey officially at four:

prozacrat
The Calistanian
One Angry Dwarf
The Passion Of El Diablo

oh yeh, what joey does on in heaven is god sent , it really makes the song , and kim of course..im loving the revamped version
klikger Posted - 04/19/2004 : 17:55:18
That part of the song in Minneapolis was probably my favorite part of the whole show. Joey is great.
prozacrat Posted - 04/19/2004 : 17:47:58
In response to the last three posts, Passion, I wasn't sure if you wanted on board or not. You hadn't posted after the subject was brought up and I didn't just want to start adding names without people actually asking to be on board. It'd be kind of like how the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is archiving names of dead people and baptizing them by proxy into the Morman faith. It wouldn't be fair. But it sounds like you do want on board, so welcome Brother Passion to the Cult of Joey. And Daisy Girl, I always found myself frowning a bit at FB&TC shows when they'd play Monkey and Frank would say "Rock me, Joe," and Joey wouldn't be there. I was too happy to see Frank say that and have Joey fulfill Frank's request. And thanks jussssss for the info on the pedals. I've been wondering what he has been using and wanting to try incorporating a pedal or two of his into my setup. Somebody should try taking a picture of just his pedals at a show soon so we can get an even more definitive and comprehensive roll call of what he uses, though I'm pleased to read what you submitted. Sidebar: should I start a thread in the Pixies general chat regarding the Cult of Joey? It sounds like plenty would want to join. We could refer to eachother as Brother and Sister in the thread and generally discuss the marvel that is Joey. Thoughts? Blessings?

Joey has been my fave gutair player for ever. My favorite moment was at the 4/13 show when Frank said, "Rock me Joe." I went totally crazy!!! Was thinking I have always wanted to see this in person...he solo was so awesome!!!
The Passion Of El Diablo Posted - 04/19/2004 : 17:25:02
Where I am on the list of cult members?
prozacrat Posted - 04/19/2004 : 17:22:10
And the revamping of In Heaven proves that he's still got the magic touch. I'd love to hear what else he could be adding to Pixies songs. One Angry Dwarf, consider yourself in. That puts us at:

prozacrat
The Calistanian
One Angry Dwarf

There's three. I think this could be a wonderful little cult. And I'll see if I can write a more fleshed-out version of the Gospel according to Prozac Rat. I'll have to wait until I'm healed though. There's so much more to Joey than meets the eye.

One_Angry_Dwarf Posted - 04/19/2004 : 15:44:32
I would gladly join the Cult Of Joey. He always was the Pixies secret weapon. Now that they're touring again, maybe more people will notice. Really though, all the evidence you need is found in Havelina.
prozacrat Posted - 04/19/2004 : 15:20:26
Thanks again for making sure I saw them in Minneapolis, Havalina. You're more than welcome to join the Cult of Joey, too!

Havalina Posted - 04/19/2004 : 15:06:52
"His shy, unassuming stage demeanor is refreshing"
"It seems like he has no clue as to how much of a god he really is."

Yeah, thats the impression I was getting at the mpls show as well. He had the same sort of stage presence when I saw him on Frank's first solo tour. It was like he was almost embarrassed when Frank introduced him and all of First Avenue roared their approval.
It was great to see/hear him again.
The Calistanian Posted - 04/19/2004 : 14:28:25
Let's see...
Two's company, three's a cult...three!

I am a man with 3 fingers...but that doesn't count my index finger nor my thumb.
prozacrat Posted - 04/19/2004 : 14:25:46
Excellent. One follower down. How many until I have a Cult of Joey?

The Calistanian Posted - 04/19/2004 : 14:24:08
Prozacrat, I subscribe to your theory.
The Gospel according to prozacrat.

I am a man with 3 fingers...but that doesn't count my index finger nor my thumb.
