Posted - 04/11/2004 : 08:50:05 In the true spirit of fb.net rumor-mongering (i.e., all rumors are probably true until proven false, and all leads must be followed to the point of exhaustion lest we be left out of something big), I will be making a couple trips to Fine Line today and tomorrow in hopes of eavesdropping on a rehearsal. I think my first trip will be in a few minutes -- the reasoning being, Sunday morning is probably the time least likely to draw attention. But ah, we are always two steps ahead...
Anyway, if anyone else wants to "work" a shift or two, post here so we can spread it out, be efficient and everything. |

Posted - 04/12/2004 : 23:18:13 Well, it's good to know that they're rehearsing Trompe songs. Trompe is the only album from which Frank and the Catholics haven't played any songs live. I was afraid he had neglected it. However, "Planet" and "U-mass" would not be my first choices.

Posted - 04/12/2004 : 11:59:52 I think thats a little elitist of you to say. You do realize that anyone here could have(and probably has) chatted with Frank and Kim at nearly any Breeders or FB show in the last 5+ years.
BTW, Indie rock is seeing the band and then buying thier CD from the merch table that the band is running after the show
I'm not even sure how the Pixies qualify as corporate. They dont even *have* a label anymore...

Posted - 04/12/2004 : 11:49:35 quote: Originally posted by lokalfuz Anyway, we froze our asses off for almost 2 hours and it paid off. I got to meet Frank Black after the rehearsal. Awesome guy, really nice, took the time to sign my copy of Surfer Rosa, and I couldn't be happier.
You mean the Pixies are actual human beings? The way people are apparently fawning over them one might think they were otherwordly beings sent down to Minnesota from God. Don't mean to spoil anyone's fun (after all I'm reading this thread because I'm intrigued too), but you all might seriously benefit from some exposure to the reality check that is the independent music scene (as in non-corporate, not "indie rock"). One of the truly great things about the independent scene is that there are no barricades, bodyguards, or backstage passes between the fans and musicians. If you like someone's music, you're free to walk right up and talk to them after their set (they usually love the attention!) and if you don't, you're free to throw your beer at them. I mean, when I saw The Martinis at EJ's in 1996 I could have spoken to Joey Santiago all I wanted, but it's not like I was following him around attempting to kiss his ass. Granted, this is quite a bit different and everybody's CRAZY excited, but you know..... |

Posted - 04/12/2004 : 07:20:44 ARRGGGHHH, if i'd known about this, I would have been there trying to hear whatever i could, you lucky people getting to somewhat hear the soundchecks. Then again its a hour and a half drive there but still it would have been worth it. |

Posted - 04/12/2004 : 07:09:34 I don't want y'all to hate me because this was THE EXPERIENCE, but I live not too far from the Fine Line and have been sleeping in my car taking shifts with my boyfriend yesterday and today. There was a lot going on yesterday and I asked a security looking guy "what's up?" He said, "The band is sound checking";so I said "which band?" Straight up he said "The Pixies" I asked if I could poke my head in, in between very shameless flirting, and after awhile he said "Yeah, but you're my girlfriend, okay?" So, I got to watch them rehearse for about 15 minutes before a VERY angry guy asked how the hell I got in there; so I quietly left. But I think my boyfriend is considering going in drag, as my breasts have gotten me to see Ween,Squirrel Nut Zippers, Marilyn Manson, and Perry Farrell; all backstage. Enjoy Minnesotans- They're here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted - 04/12/2004 : 00:24:21 Haha. Then I dodged a bullet there. I said hi to Kim too, but hell if I'd normally be able to tell the difference (especially with them not standing side by side) ... luckily I had it right. Then again, she came out of a car with Frank, it seemed like a safe guess. |

Posted - 04/12/2004 : 00:22:13 Shoot, just remembered a Kelley Deal story as well. Earlier, when Makers and I showed up, Kelley came out and was going into a cab, and I mistakenly said hi to her as Kim, but she corrected me, and I felt like an ass. |

Posted - 04/12/2004 : 00:19:59 I specifically recall them referencing Star Tribune, but I'm not sure what exact article, I'm gonna go with the same belief as solace, that they assumed Fine Line. I guess the may have read something on here too though. |
roomloo |
Posted - 04/12/2004 : 00:19:18 Don't know about that ... maybe. The band has local connections (via Kelley Deal mostly), it's pretty easy to imagine them rehearsing someplace a little more on the DL (a la their space in LA). |
solace |
Posted - 04/12/2004 : 00:14:16 yeah, you could safely assume it'd be there tho :)

Posted - 04/12/2004 : 00:11:36 Yeah, that old article didn't specifically say they'd rehearse at Fine Line, either. |
roomloo |
Posted - 04/12/2004 : 00:10:57 I just read the article a minute ago. All it said was that the Pixies are playing the Fine Line Tuesday and are rehearsing here for a few days. It never actually said they were rehearsing at the Fine Line, so these people must have gotten their information elsewhere.

solace |
Posted - 04/12/2004 : 00:10:29 it was in the initial article, like 3 weeks ago, stating they'd be rehearsing in town the 2 days before the show

Posted - 04/11/2004 : 23:59:54 I have no idea, they mentioned reading about the rehearsals in the Star Tribune today, so I'd assume that they don't read the boards here. |

Posted - 04/11/2004 : 23:38:22 Yeah, super uptight with me. They were just doing their job, but damn man, what was I hurting... |

Posted - 04/11/2004 : 23:33:03 We didn't encounter security once, but the couple that was there before us did, and they said that they were kinda uptight. |

Posted - 04/11/2004 : 23:26:00 So were you guys in the alley? Yeah, the sound was good there, although we had to be sneaky and mostly stay away from the door. Sounds like security might have been a little more lax for you guys? |
