Ok, I see how it is now. My thrill and amazement at the Pixies unorthodox choice of cities and venues for their initial North American tour has been tempered by the comments made by Marc Geiger in the recent Reuters article. Somehow I was tempted to foolishly believe that the band was rewarding Canada, the Pacific Northwest, and college towns for being enjoyable places to play. I'm not pissing on the special treat we're getting here, but it's a bit sad to see that the Pixies are looking at these initial shows as just a warm-up. The really important stuff, of course, is pleasing the Brits, the Angelinos, and the other folks from giant cities that aren't worth pissing on. And of course playing big festival shows that hardly even feature the Pixies.

The "warm up" shows are the place to be, no matter what anyone may say about the locations. After that, its going to be the big festivals - not nearly as good an experience.

Whatever, Josh.

I think I'm on the guest list for Minneapolis, but I can't make it because I have a really important house-sitting gig in Newport, OR that week.

BTW Passion of Diablo: In case there's some confusion this isn't Josh. I'm Nid, and I'm really not bitter, just being a smartass. Welcome to the mind of a provincial Oregonian.

Frank Black lives in Oregon? I'll be damned! I've never heard that before. I guess you learn something every day. Just out of curiosity, what town does he live in?

Yeah, I didn't want to be presumptious regarding the guest list, since it's not really confirmed, but I thought it was worth noting. I hate to come off sounding like hearsay is fact. I guess I kinda did. Thanks.

I heard about the 200 person guest list from a Fine Line employee. He said it was The Pixies own "personal guest list". So it's possible that all tickets were just accounted for and they just tell people that they have been sold. Doesn't explain the ticket number sequences though. I'm positive there is no usual club guest list for vips and insiders jugding by an email recieved by a relative of mine from the owner.

actually, i know people have "heard" about this so-called 200 person guest list at the Fine Line, but i've been told otherwise, not only by Fine Line staff, but also by other twin cities booking people

they stated that all 700 tickets were sold, there is NO guest list (i'm sure there will be a few VIPs, but doubt it will be too much)

take that for what you will.

p.s. considering my friends tickets are numbered 08x-09x, and mine are 55x-56x, and we've seen those scan of tickets that were 666-667, seems to agree w/ what i've been told.

I don't quite think that Mr. Geiger's attitude reflects the Pixies attitude at all. As their agent, it's Mr. Geiger's job to think about what is "important." That doesn't make his "nowhere places" comment any less tactless. But the Pixies know that their first run of shows is an important run. Their guest list for the Minneapolis show is 200 people long. If it wasn't important, would they invite (and have in attendance) 200 people? Of course not. Coachella is important to management because it means $$$. As far as I can tell, The Pixies like these locations in the warm-up tour. Hell, look at Frank's song Manitoba. Look at the fact that he lives in Oregon. Look at the fact that they're playing two shows at the Commodor Ballroom in Vancouver, almost 12 years to the day of their last show, incidentally at the same place. That especially seems important since Frank was saying in a recent interview that the reunion is really nice because they never really had a real break up, and it was great to have resolution. Doing another 2 night run at the Commodor Ballroom seems a pretty clear sign that they're burning some bridges. No, don't pay any attention to Mr. Geiger. He's just silly. I still applaud the Pixies for their choices and the reasoning. I have no problem with it being a "warm-up" tour. All their most hardcore fans (who are able to get to them) are going to be there. We can be their toughest critics. We're an excellent sounding board for how they're doing. I'll be there. If I run in to Mr. Geiger I'll pat him on the head and say "poor little man."

So far they haven't done us Angelenos any favors. I wouldn't go to a big festival to see any band, and Indio isn't exactly local.

Wow, Josh, you sure are bitter about this.
