Posted - 03/01/2004 : 06:43:37 I may have a little bit of inside info. Mclusky have recently beein demoing and have written their new album (follow up to ' do dallas) and its been rumoured this was sent to Frank and co and they its been really warmly received. as both bands have met ( due to being albini) It seems very likely that Mclusky will be supporting at least one date in brixton bearing in mind their sound is similar, they are relatively small and have london promoters always pull them in because of the good crowds they attract. |

I agree, I think Built To Spill would be an excellent choice!! I'm not familiar with Whale..what are they like? other suggestions I would have would be: Superchunk, Neutral Milk Hotel [/quote]

Posted - 02/27/2004 : 22:59:12 Bonnie "Prince" Billy is going to be the special guest and then the Pixies are gonna take the stage with steel guitars and banjos and do these creepy, slow and quiet versions of their songs and all the Fight Club kids will fuck off and go kill the scalpers they had to buy the tix from.......... |

Posted - 02/27/2004 : 12:53:16 There are lots of great local bands However, the only Winnipeg band I can think of that has the chops to attempt following up Pixies is Novillero. Those guys are damn good musicians and song writers.

Posted - 02/26/2004 : 21:36:19 I was talking to some members of a Winnipeg band who thought it might be really cool to play after the show was over because of the large scene in town. I didn't take me a second to say "do you really think you could follow an act like that?" If I find anything out on the Winnipeg side I will post it here. I have my ears and eyes tuned. |

except that PAVEMENT was often too drunk to find their way thru a live set. if it was not for MALKMUS, scott and the rest of them would still be jamming in MRS KANNBERG'S basement.

A Stone Roses show would bring me to tears pretty quickly. Much the same as Pixies.
I've heard the rumours of this Smiths reunion. With the huge success of the Pixies reunion, it would be even less surprising now. But for them to join Pixies on this little Western Canada "warm-up tour" would be a coup. It'd be a pleasant surprise though.

Last year's mini-tour restored my faith in reunions (and of course I expect that trend to continue in April).
Just not sure whether Dave Lovering and Dave Lowery are on good terms, though. |

Posted - 02/25/2004 : 13:15:02 the one band i'd love to see supporting them is radiohead |
One_Angry_Dwarf |
Posted - 02/25/2004 : 13:12:55 They've been a monstorous influence on everybody from Radiohead to Weezer so any band in between, perhaps could open for them. I don't think it'll be a fed to the wolves deal, though. The energy in these rooms is going to be massive, and I think any band would do well within it. Of course, there'll be impatience, but we've all waited this long... what's another 45 minutes or so? |
Amazed |
Posted - 02/25/2004 : 12:49:29 Ya I thought they would get some killer band to open for them .I could see local bands before that. If your gonna feed someone to the wolves they better be good!
For sum reason violent femmes keeps coming up!
as long as its not sum crapy pop punk band like Simple Plan!
But Honestly Pixies Revolitonized music so What Top musician wouldn't want to open for them or even go see them! I think alot of these shows will have alot of famous people there to watch! |
The Calistanian |
Posted - 02/25/2004 : 12:48:12 Seriously...who would be likely candidates for opening bands? I'm not "hip" to today's music, so I couldn't even suggest anyone. I'm pretty closed-minded when it comes to music. I just listen to FB, Pixies, and whatever comes on the classic radio station at work.
I'm a fsh with no i's. |

Posted - 02/25/2004 : 11:54:37 A friend of mine in Calgary had a gig poster on his wall from The Joshua Tree era that said "Ireland's U2 with special guests Pixies and R.E.M."
Nice! |
One_Angry_Dwarf |
Posted - 02/25/2004 : 11:53:14 I've heard from most people that it will be a series of local bands playing with them. I imagine there aren't many bands that wouldn't kill for this gig, so there may be some great surprises. Either way, I'll be getting pretty impatient waiting for Pixies to show up. |
