Posted - 10/26/2024 : 22:33:24 Wow the States don't even get that many Trompe and Bossanova-songs.... They can play their well known single Dig for Fire now, right? Why won't you do it? People love that one.
Glad they did play Death Horizon the second night

I didn't go either, but would have been cool to hear the live debut of Mercy Me. |

Posted - 10/25/2024 : 00:19:51 Again in Boston last night, they only played the same 4 Zombies songs (Chicken, Motoroller, Mercy Me, Vegas Suite).... really strange for new album release shows to not really showcase the new album.... |

Posted - 10/24/2024 : 12:00:50 I still catch them every time they're in town, but that's been less than 10 times. I've had a good mix of setlists that are almost exclusively 1.0, along with sets that have covered the entirety of Head Carrier, BTE, and Doggerel, so I'm not tired of either. While I'm obviously a die-hard that would like a good mix, I still love the 1.0 material and enjoy seeing them play it (and enjoy the joy it brings my wife who is less of a hardcore FB head and genuinely adores the 1.0 material live). |

Posted - 10/24/2024 : 10:44:43 Wow. I saw them twice in the 80s/90s and I am only on 31 including 7 FB Solo/Catholics shows.
113!! That's not uber-fan, it's super-lecker! |

30 times! Cripes, that is *a lot*
my bad, just checked my setlist.fm account.... I've seen them 38 times since 2004.
That's nothing though, I have a friend who saw them in Glasglow a month or so ago, it was his 113th time. But he saw them loads in the 80's/90's too. I missed out on those glory days. |

Posted - 10/24/2024 : 09:53:25 I guess he's playing to the casual fans, here's a couple new ditties, but here are the 2 dozen ones you came to hear. But for the uber-fan like me who has seen them over 30 times since the reunion... I'm a bit tired of the Doolittle/Surfer/Pilgrim heavy sets. At least I know that if I catch them on each new album tour, I'll get to hear maybe 80% of the new album live once, and then probably never again. |

Posted - 10/24/2024 : 08:10:17 I think BF’s recent songwriting reflects this sentiment. He clearly isn’t even remotely trying g to push the envelope anymore. He seems very comfortable, for better or worse in musical terms. |

Posted - 10/24/2024 : 07:35:16 Charles in a recent interview on new vs. old material in setlists (translated from the Dutch):
HUMO You could easily pay the bills with the proceeds from your back catalogue, but you keep touring and seem to be entering the studio with more and more enthusiasm.
BLACK "I just like doing it, and I'd still like to get in the studio and make a big statement, something that would set the music world on fire, but I also know that's not going to happen. My time to make an impression is long gone. I know what people want from us: 'Where Is My Mind?' and 'Monkey Gone to Heaven', one more time. But if we can squeeze in a new song every now and then, I'll be happy. I try not to take it too seriously and not to analyze it too much. I make records that are available on streaming services and on vinyl, and every now and then I get asked to sign one of those records. What pleases me most is that we still don't get asked to play oldies festivals, but we still play the same places as we did 35 years ago." |

Posted - 10/24/2024 : 07:20:48 Yeah I was at the show. I found it a little weird they didn't play more from the album. It was literally a special smaller show where they sold a Night the Zombies Came t-shirt for it!
The vibe to me almost feels like- this is the part of the set where we play the new songs and right after, back to your favorites. Some of the new songs seemed to get good reactions though.
Highlight of the night for me was easily The Happening and Motorway to Roswell. Would be down to hear more Bossonova/Trompe over the others really. Doolittle/Surfer Rosa heavy setlists don't really interest me at this point personally.
Also don't see why they moved on from most other 2.0 stuff either. While the classics are perhaps the most popular with crowds, there are still some bangers they can play like On Graveyard Hill, What Goes Boom or Baals Back. |

Posted - 10/24/2024 : 00:59:33 Also, I fear the pattern continues.... with each new album the band will play songs from that new album and nothing from previous version 2.0 albums. But Doolittle/Surfer/Pilgrim will always get good representation. Trompe got the same 4 that are always played, and Bossanova only got 2... but one was The Happening, so it's nice to see that one has stuck in regular rotation.
Sorry Indie Cindy, Head Carrier, Beneath the Eyrie, and Dogerrel... as well as most of Bossanova and Trompe... |

Posted - 10/24/2024 : 00:55:35 Someone posted a clip of Mercy Me in the Facebook group, seemed nice.
I find it weird that they only played 4 tracks from the new album.... come on, promote that new record! |

They are apparently also promoting Doolittle

Posted - 07/10/2024 : 14:01:07 Whatever the reasons are for them not playing 2.0 songs, I hope they will just start playing more 2.0 songs
And while I accept the meaninglessness of this, I will nonetheless say that I would go to more 2.0 concerts if they played more 2.0 songs and other weird stuff |
Brank_Flack |
Posted - 07/10/2024 : 11:18:03 Maybe, but I imagine most of the songs would be pretty easy to learn. I think it's more likely a combination of the shorter setlists (aimed at a more general audience), and the fact that they generally haven't kept 2.0 songs in the setlists following an album-touring cycle (with All the Saints and Death Horizon as the most notable exceptions), and the Doggerel touring cycle wrapped up last year. |
yarbles |
Posted - 07/10/2024 : 07:55:47 My theory on why there's practically no version 2.0 songs in this setlist is simply time and bandwidth.... do we know how long Emma had to learn songs before the Bosssanova/Trompe shows? Maybe she had a month... so the priority is learning those two albums. After that, learn the other classics that always get played in regular sets. Then... there's an entire new album of songs she's learnt and recorded, so there's that. That fills a show.
They drop songs from each 2.0 album as soon as a new one is out anyway, so after the new album is out it'll be all those songs, plus the classics. Maybe Death Horizon.... That'll fill the setlist.
I love version 2.0 and would want a couple songs from each album, but I get it. New bass player, only so many songs you can fit into a 90 minute set, she's really familiar with Bossanova/Trompe/New album songs/other version 1.0 classics. |

Set lists have been in groove lately. Death Horizon makes appearances in several shows which is cool
Death Horizon is just about the only 2.0. song that has survived on these new setlists. We're also looking at about 25 songs per show, which is far fewer than the generous ~38-40 songs that were standard a few years ago. On the other hand, thanks to the Bossa/Trompe tour we're seeing much more exciting inclusions from the 1.0. era and also the band are playing with more vigor and without the dull lulls of back-to-back 2.0. songs. Overall, I'm not sure I prefer these new setlists. But I'm not sure they're worse, either; taking the pros and cons into consideration turns out to be a wash.
The sets are shorter because of the number of bands on the bill this tour. |

And I'm always happy to point out that Dalgety produced those too

Posted - 06/23/2024 : 07:29:47 I just feel like now that they've established they could do "catchy" accessible rock singles, now is the time to put out a really freaky weird aggressive and unpredictable Pixies track, give people a little taste of "they've still got it." Surprise everybody. They've got a new bassist, it's a brand new chapter. Go fucking nuts.
I don't think anybody, especially the more casual fan, is going to be bowled over by Impatient. It feels so half-hearted to me. |

Yeah that’s a good clip. But I don’t mind the album version either
I think as far as live performances go, I’d rather hear a Dalgety-ized 2.0 song than Wave (either version) for the 600th time, but that’s just me.
Oh I agree on Wave... particularly how they do the 'UK Surf' version these days. Horribly slow pace.
I like 'You're So Impatient' but it's an appalling mix. Starts well but rapidly falls into 'Head Carrier' territory.
Plenty of 2.0 songs I'd like to hear in the live sets. 'Doggerel' issues aside, it's easy to think of a dozen songs that'd slot into the regular sets perfectly fine.
Perhaps a return to longer sets with future dates will bring a few more songs to the fore.
In listening to Impatient a few more times I really dig Joey's solo. It's kind of a surprising / unexpected bit of music there in my opinion.
I still would never in a million years consider this song a Pixies track, but how many times am I going to drone on about this? I wonder what all the high profile Pixies fans like Grohl and Yorke think about 2.0 |

Posted - 06/21/2024 : 22:34:24 I find it totally weird they did not play any 2.0 songs at my show, besides Vegas Suite. I just...don't understand. If I made four new albums, I'd theoretically be proud of those and want to perform at least a few of those songs, if only to prove I still got the goods and I'm not just a nostalgia act, which I thought was one of Frank's concerns when it came to making new albums in the first place. |
