Good show.

My concert-going game was out of rhythm all night, I arrived too early, i chose the wrong beer line, I snoozed and ended up towards the back with a terrible view. Would have been nice to see the band better instead of just in snatches, but that's my fault. Not like they do much, very little conversation, I would have thought they might explain to the audience that they were playing Doolittle in its entirety. Instead Kim would just yell, "A B-Side!". The setlist:

Dancing the Manta Ray
Weird at My School
Bailey's Walk
Manta Ray

Doolittle

Wave of Mutilation (UK Surf)
Into the White

encore:

Isla de Encanta
Nimrod's Son
Where is My Mind?
Gigantic

A crowd-pleasing set. I like Bailey's Walk, that was cool. The hightlight for me is that I realized I love "Hey", which I hadn't recognized previously. Also David Lovering's "Oh Yeah"s during La La Love You were awesome.

At first I didn't love the thought of just Doolittle/B-Sides, but since I want to hear them do songs I haven't seen before, this is a good way. My objection to the first reunion tour was a lack of Bossanova, if they do a whole Bossanova tour next then I will be most pleased (is a Bossanova tour happening or just rumored?)

Finally, the video screens and visuals were cool, an added dimension from past shows.

I used to live in New York and I'd forgotton how much I hate that venue. Awful place. The sound is good, though, i guess. No other redeeming features.

Could I stay just for awhile?

Pixies Thanksgiving
November 26 -- I didn’t post about this, but it
was completely awesome anyway. The Pixies
played a 1 A.M. Thanksgiving show for their
New York fans. It was completely awesome to
hear the entire Doolittle album being played
with some B-side tracks. As a long time Pixies
fan, I was completely thrilled.

I guess you could say it was a bit 'showbizzy', but I wouldn't say that in a bad way. I actually thought that the lighting and the whole stage production was great. Lots of silhouette stuff, great backdrops. And the films behind them were fantastic. Any touring musician is after all in the business of show business. And no matter what, the music was perfect even if they'd played the whole show with the lights out.

I think a DVD from this tour would be pretty swell; you'd get the interesting backdrop. Heck, it's unique to see them doing something this 'showbizzy.' Now they just need some scantily-clad dancers.

Anyway. Dvd, yes. Good idea!

I wonder if they will release a DVD of this tour... and I really hope they can tour bossanova next year, but in weird places like Chile... hehe =)

I just saw this; I like reading forumgoers reviews. I wonder if they'll throw in anything unusual during the encores, since its four nights.

Wow that brooklyn vegan sure is a sea of humanity.... for the record I was able to a) get there early enough to get up front, despite my back starting to feeling, and b) move and dance in my little spot and not annoy or bump into anyone (though I was surrounded by a few other dancers) and EVERYBODY was singing whatever they knew to sing, so I guess the answer is: up front is the place to be.

Incredible show, and definitely they sounded tighter than any of the 3 shows I saw on the 2004 tour - especially David Lovering who definitely has got his chops dialed again. And the sound was great (even through my earplugs) but I could always stand more Joey in the mix (also an earplug issue probably).

But totally felt I got my money's worth to hear this album cover-to-cover plus b-sides and other 'greatest hits'. And I'm happy to see they spent some of that money on the awesome-and-intense-but-not-too-distracting-from-the-music video screen/presentation. It worked, especially when they dolls could mosh instead of the crowd during crackity jones.

My least favorite venue in NYC (besides the stadiums/arenas).

Fantastic show. Spotted Kelley Deal in my section. The b-sides and the rarer tracks in general kicked my ass. Going again Wednesday.
