Thought a dedicated thread would be nice.

Art Brut are announced as supporting on the 8th. And I think Dinosaur Pileup are playing on the 9th.

Having had a week to cool off and think about it I'd say this show was more enjoyable than the 2004 tour. The background projections worked really well especially on Silver which was amazingly good. There was a great atmosphere up the front - one big Pixie lovefest.

Nice pic JB. The only pic I've ever seen of the band where it's obvious which song they're playing!

Me too. Occasionally you have stop and realise how lucky we are - a bit too young first time out, I first got into the band in the late 90s, when it looked like there was no chance of them ever reforming. I have to pinch myself to think I've now seen them five or six times since 2004. We're so lucky that a/ they've got back together and b/ are sounding even better than ever!
Levitated Posted - 10/10/2009 : 06:02:59
Very cool pics!!! It's SO (insert correct adjective please) to see the band having such a great time!!! They totally deserve it! I'm glad they could solve any tension from the past. They're 4 clever talented artists, I hope the good vibes remain forever!

Was there last night (Thursday). Just an incredible night.
I really like the idea of the set opening with B-sides - it is very much like you are getting a starter, main course, then a dessert on this tour. The likes of Manta Ray, Weird at My School, Bailey's Walk, set things up nicely, they are just short little sketches really, but you love it just because it's so unusual to hear songs that short performed live.
Doolittle sounded brilliant - you think of it as being possibly more shiny and melodic than Surfer Rosa and Come On Pilgrim, maybe not quite as fast and frenetic, but hearing it live you hardly get a chance to catch your breath. Great encore as well. Love the dry ice during Into the White.
I was lucky enough to be really near the front, amazing to be so close to the band and see their reactions to the crowd and the adulation they receive.

Ziggy Posted - 10/09/2009 : 13:38:54
Yeah, definitely some subtle effects on the vocals. I thought FB was in really good voice throughout, and the shows were even better than when I saw them in 2004/05.

rrrich Posted - 10/09/2009 : 13:17:26
Another fantastic one tonight. Crowd was really loud, best I've heard since Manchester a few years back.

Same main setlist with 2nd encore of vamos, gigantic and where is my mind. Band sounded brilliant too tonight.

Superb pics, Ziggy. Really wanted to love Art Brut but despite a zillion friends telling me how awesome they are and how funny the words are, the sound in their set was making the lyrics inaudible. Keen to see them on their own now.

The Pixies sound was remarkable. Compared to the reunion shows this was leaps beyond. There seemed to be a lot of effects used on vocals at different times too?

Now getting texts about tonight's show....

edit - that picture of "Here Comes Your Man" with Dave and Kim? One of my fave gig photos ever. Salut!

Here are some pictures I took

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=296637&id=223401072&l=541523a7de

* Art Brut seemed to win the crowd over, even though Eddie Argos could barely be heard for the first couple of songs.

* Kim seems to have a couple of pedals too. The sound mix was very good indeed.

* Really mixed crowd; a whole family from up North, a crowd of young Chinese students (wielding a gigantic Polaroid camera that perplexed the security guards). Whole crowd going wild.

* Maybe it's just my impression, but the Man really is on fine form

Started on the dot at 9pm and were done by 10:30pm. We left during "Gigantic" (my wife being heavily pregnant meant getting back before the rush won out over the full encore - thanks to you guys here we sort-of knew it'd be the last song) and managed to get the 22:37 train from Brixton to Victoria.

Cameras-wise there were quite a few people taking pics around the balcony area (I managed to get at least one per Doolittle song as well as others although to be honest they're more of the visuals than the band because of where we were sat) so am guessing you should be fine.

jbstevens Posted - 10/08/2009 : 22:32:38
I'm trying to sort out train times - can anyone remember what sort of time Pixies set has started and finished? Not sure if I'll get there in time for the support...

Indeed it was! The first encore wasn't that bad either, with the excess of dry ice in Into The White. Loved the films on the backdrop during the gig. Got home at 3 p.m. and still buzzing.

Pixies Kick Off London 'Doolittle' gig residency

http://www.nme.com/news/pixies/47713

How come that gets a headline article on the NME, and they ignore the SECC and Olympia gigs? IMO the SECC was more of a gig worth reporting that the Brixton ones, because of the 1991 thing.

There's also a really nice screenprint of the album cover for 20.

Yeh the girl with 13 scrawled on her was funny. Came trying to push through the back of me and when I went to let her past, got said breast out just in case I hadn't seen 13 written on it. Haha. Don't think Frank looked over while she was on the guy's shoulders. Joey saw her, looked unimpressed. Still, 10/10 for effort.

Thanks Ziggy. For money reasons I'm going to have to hope there's still some usbs or cds from the show available from the website afterwards....
