I found this :

And I don't get who are all those people??? Two additional guitarists, and David dancing with maracas...

Nice version though (if you except the EDF's fucking keyboard solo)

Quomodocumque - When Paul Shaffer was in the Pixies.

I read an interview ages ago where Anton Fig said among the hundreds of artists he's worked with, some of the ones he'd enjoyed the most were: Dylan (in the recording studio), Kiss (in the studio), Booker T & The MGs (on tour), Pixies (on the Letterman show).

Anton's one of the best and most versatile drummers out there.

Adding to TTC's informative post, Anton Fig is the drummer. He was part of the Honeycomb sessions. Will Lee is the bass player and does some kick ass playing half way through the song.

Wow!
Thanks a lot for your detailed answer!
So, I guess it's also Paul Shaffer who is on keyboards during the version of "Monkey Gone To Heaven" at Letterman Show in 2004?
I always thought it was Eric Drew Feldman... All my apologies!

Letterman's policy at the time was that only the principal members of a band (such as the frontperson and lead guitarist) could appear, and they would be backed by the Letterman house band.

Occasionally, big superstars such as Bob Dylan were allowed to substitute their own bands, but this was extreley rare.

In this case, they allowed the entire band to perform alongside the Letterman band, which was a sign that the Letterman band really dug the Pixies, and you can see the fun they're having while getting a chance to play more noisy, chaotic rock music than they usually got to on that show.

Sid McGinnis in particular (lead guitarist) turns in a smashingly good solo, and the person playing the Arabic keyboard solo is not Eric Drew Feldman, it's Paul Shaffer, who led the house band, and has recorded and played live with everyone from The Beach Boys to The Weather Girls to Greg "B.J. & The Bear" Evigan.
