This was the best Pixies show I've seen since Newcastle, England 1990!! The Apollo was a great venue and the acoustics were absolutely excellent - as was the lighting. I'd been to the Forum, Brixton and Move last year but this was just the best!

I stood just behind the mixing desk as my legs weren't up to it after being at Leeds on saturday. Fellow Sunderland residents The Futureheads made for a very decent support act. This was so much better than Leeds where the Pixies had opened with 4 or 5 slower songs.

They opened at approx. 9pm with 'Head On' and then into Wave of Mutilation and Is She Weird? There was also an amazing rendition of 'Planet of Sound' - Frank was really going for it on every song and I thought it was an amazing performance which contrasted with the Leeds show where I felt they were maybe a little subdued.

The usual classics were played - Debaser/Bone Machine/Broken Face/Where is My Mind?/Monkey/Dead/Isla/Vamos/Tame/Hey/I Bleed/Gouge Away/Here Comes Your Man/Subbacultcha/Caribou/U-Mass/La La Love You/Gigantic (no Cactus)and they graced us with a couple of encores. The band seemed to be really enjoying it and the crowd reaction was also amazing - so much better than the Festival crowd. A great night and I had great big grin on my face all the way back to Sunderland!

This really is one of the best reunion shows I have heard. I finally caught up to it, through a happily large boot backlog. The band is just shining and the performances are top notch. No wonder the pixiesdiscs folks included this in their best three of Europe 2005 package. I note that pixiesdiscs still has it available, so if you been sitting on the fence about a European show to get, this ones's great. I know, haven't they all been? Yes, but Manchester stands out as special.

Yeah, they messed it up and abandoned but then came and did it as a 2nd encore. They were on top-form!

Did they not restart Hey? Did they fuck it up and abandon it?!

I'll be seeing them in a couple of weeks. But you, YOU, you get some kind of an award. Flying all the way across the Atlantic.
You embody the disc Transatlantic, I'd say!

Hhahahah..yeah! The story goes like this. I woke up at 4 a.m. Toronto time to by tickets online as the tickets were going on sale in Manchester at 9 a.m. a month ago. Tickets sold out in like 5 minutes ...so I didn't get any. I got on ebay and stalked the prices for a few weeks. Finally got a pair of tickets for 70 quid. I was so happy! It was funny because I was in Manchester (business/pleasure - I must admit). Had a horrible day and was this close to not even going. Ended up getting all dolled up with one of my best mates and hit the Apollo. Can I say there were soo many cute boys...but not takers. Sucks...oh well! HHahhahahaha.

The music - what can I say..the music made my year. I'm still thinking about that show and it'll be 2 weeks today! Where are you going to see the Pixies? How many shows have you been too? First one for me and hopefully not the last.

Cheers!
Mel
