I am one happy motherfucker!
I managed to get up this morning and book Pixies tickets despite being out on the piss last night!

All of a sudden life has meaning once more.

Anyway im goin to stay with my brother in London and see the Ally pally show with him (it has always been our lifelong ambiton to see the Pixies together). After booking our tickets I just had a go at buying some standing tickets for Manchester (because I actually live in Manchester) and all the standing tickets were sold out already, bear in mind it is now quarter past nine in the morning, a mere 15 minutes after going on sale! By Eck its grim up North.

I guess there is no point in me telling you this story other than to express my joy to someone, and get info on the venue.
As far as I can tell, Ally Pally seems like some sort of weird stately home thingymabob. Is it outside or what? What kind of a venue is it?
Anybody live near there or been to a gig there?
Any info...

PS Honeycomb is a fucking masterstroke!
Long live the King!
(And I dont mean that fatass that died on the shitter).

I live a couple of miles from Ally Pally, I've only ever been to one gig there, White Stripes last year.

The Palace is a Victorian place, built (I don't know why) in memory of one of Victoria's children. It's on top of the hill overlooking Wood Green and Muswell Hill, and is surrounded by a pretty park. It was the original home of BBC broadcasting, which end when the palace was gutted by fire for a second time - there's still a mast, and the Beeb are looking into restarting it.
There used to loads of gigs there in the 60's and 70's, but for some reason they stopped them, and have only started again in the last couple of years. There's a famous story of Rick Wakeman from Yes discovering a radio frequency through his organ and incorporating it into the gig.

Its a pretty cool venue for a gig, very ornate and grandiose inside. At the White Stripes, they had just some big, bold white lights and the shadows cast against the high walls were awesome. I think it'd work well for the Pixies, as they didn't have a particularly flashy lighting rig, just simple and effective. The bar takes some effort though, try smuggling in a hip-flask!

How's that for a slice of fried gold?
