Alright, just got home from a little Waffle House outing after the Pixies concert in Raleigh. Anyone who went knows that this was a killer concert. Everyone seemed to be into the music, and the band was really into the crowd, as if they aren't at some other time. For me, it was a really unforgettable experience, because this was my first concert. After they took their bows, Frank convinced Kim to play one more song (bass kills your hands, I understand if Kim wanted to go chill). After the concert, myself and a few of my friends went out back where Joe and David were outback signing autographs. I was lucky to grab their autographs and later on, Kim and Frank's as well.

While I may not have much experience prior to this (zero), I'd have to say that this was the best concert I've ever heard, even better than their live albums.

Anyone that has gone to a concert on this tour, check out the pixiesmusic.com website to see if they recorded your concert. They recorded ours and I ordered a copy of it. It's just that good.

Well, one of the New York cognoscenti even liked the show:

Peter seems amazed that we even have electricity here. I'm surprised he didn't make any jokes about grits. :)

I can't tell if it's sarcasm or not :(

just goes to show you that "we" the fans don't know shit about what's really going on in the minds of the pixies:

from pixiesdiscs.com:

Raleigh
The band's favorite show of the tour, in a packed warehouse in an office park.

They also played River Euphrates, Tame and No. 13 Baby. It struck me that Joey and Kim weren't happy with their instrument volumes throughout the first half of the show.

They screwed Bone Machine up (opened with it), and called it off after the first chorus. Frank then went into Cactus. It was pretty funny, he was chastising Kim, 'We must've played that song 50 times etc etc'. You could tell he was a little irritated.

They also played Into the White, La la Love You (as encore), Dead, Hey, Gouge Away (which they absolutely crushed, great version), Something Against You..

Sonically speaking, I thought that Joey's guitar was absolutely ear-piercing, while Kim's vocals and bass were down a bit in the mix - I've heard that is the case in some of these shows. It wasn't quite like that when I saw them last August in Berkeley at the Greek, though.

I was too into the show to keep track of the setlist, I'll post whenever the CD comes online.

I have to agree with you guys about the opening band. They didn't seem to have a different sound throughout. But like you guys said, It was most likely because it was so hot and crowded that we just wanted the Pixies already.

thank you all for your reviews. Any setlist?

Agreed on the venue being boiling hot -- I came out after the show looking like http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-291524.html

I agree also about the opening band, though I was, like most people in there, roasting hot and irritated and ready for the main event, and probably didn't give them a fair shake. They seemed maybe a bit gimmicky, but I was getting a kick out of the guitarist doing the same rock star moves over and over again.

It must be a thankless task to open for a band like the Pixies.

This show was excellent.

The venue was simply the worst I have EVER been to in my life. I've never been to a place as poorly managed as this one. Apparently they have no AC here. I don't think the band will ever come back to Raleigh. They looked like they were about to pass out, as was I.

Upon arrival I was greeted by the assed out restrooms with no TP or paper towels to be found. And the opening band was THE worst I have ever had to sweat through in my life. Think Tina Turner fronting for a High School wannabe Helmet / punk band. But hell if you play it LOUD ENOUGH, who cares, right?

Anyhow the Pixies were fantastic! I was glad to hear Planet of Sound. I didn't get to hear that in Atlanta last year.

I will never go back to the Ritz/Disco Rodeo again in my life.
