They will still suck if they play a few more songs from Bossanova and/or Trompe le monde.
They won't suck if they play new songs to promote the new album.
Agree?

What I was trying to say is that I would expect a little more creativity from our good ol' Chuck than doing the same trick over and over again. It's almost a year ago they started the 'reunion' tour. Everyone who is interested in the Pixies had their chance to watch them play the songs from their glory years. Time for something new, right?
Honeycomb is sort of new when it will be released in July, but it has nothing to do with the Pixies. And the Pixies is and will be Franks core business for the next months (years?) But there's hope. I really liked the energy in Bam Thwok, or the rawness (is that a word?) in Ain't that pretty at all. So let's hope it's true that a new album is already recorded. A new album that shows the Pixies chemistry is still alive, and it is alive, you can tell from those two songs.
But damn, Pixies, play those songs this summer!

Yea I do hear you in a way. It's going to be hard for them to release new stuff this summer. Honeycomb and the Breeders new album I am guessing have taken up a lot of time. Let's not forget little baby Jack being a sweet little distraction to the music process too.
From the sounds of everything, there wasn't anything on the road in terms of collaboration of new material.
But on the other plans all of those guys are hard core musicians and can turn a lot of super high quality suff up in a short amount of time.
I really have a feeling deep down at some point there will be new Pixies material.
Who knows if/when it will be-- but when they are ready, you, me and the rest of the fans are eagerly awaiting any new material
And yes BT and ITAPAA... were a lovely trialer to hopefully a full album at some point. |

Yeah I am sure they will play a few new ones (not new as in newly written), but not a whole set full. That was my point, which I made.

Posted - 03/28/2005 : 09:32:56 I saw them twice last year(2004) when I was living in Berkeley.. one day after the other.. the friday and the saturday because I think they are amazing and never before had the chance to see them live. (that year I also got to see the Breeders play live which was pretty amazing and hilarious.. never I thought I would see them live as well) In both days they managed to play all the songs that I treasure and love. But chicken has a point if they just do the same for this year. They won't suck but I would feel a bit jaded if I pay £60 to see David throw the sticks to Joey for him to play the guitar for the third time. It made me wish I had seem them when they were just starting in Boston. (I did the same with They Migh Be Giants.. two shows in a row and they were different.. even the mood of the crow was different.. I'm so glad I went the first day because the second day crowd really sucked)
I would love to hear some of the B side.. some of them are really cool. I would like to see them enjoy playing the show..arrange the songs a bit different and a few peeks to three or two new songs, perhaps play renditions of their favourite songs.. do something different so that the show does not sound recorded and provides me with a good enough reason to buy the live album.
One of favourites music memories is seeing G'n'R live in 1990 in Australia at a place called Eastern Creek.. I was not too big fan of them but who was I to miss out on a show with 70K people in it. In Australia shows like that do not happen very often. What made it special was Slash played some Hendrix on his guitar.. half the crowd recognised it, the other did not (a wee young).. I was in awe.. perhaps they did that through out their 'get in the ring' tour but it was still felt I'm so glad that I went because I would never hear that on their albums.
I think I would go and see them in Portugal or perhaps Paris. I think King of Leon could be special at Reading.. they seem to have the energy to put a great show and Foo fighters if the crowd gets behind them.
We can only wait and dream.

Posted - 03/28/2005 : 08:04:26 im a new bee, when it comes to le pixies, i am ashamed to say i discovered them through recomended purchase of wave of mutilation comp album. I am so so sorry everyone. (I was only 3 in 1989) However upon listening to pretty much all released material i could get my hands on, i realised that the pixies are by far the best live band playing at Reading this year by about one million times. That obvious formality asside (he he asside) a mixture of trompe and boss songs (and B side realeased album) and surfa rosa would be fantastic. Hmm have i deliberatly forgotton to mention doolittle? |

true. after all i've said, i'm so glad i heard the songs i did at Brixton.
If they made my wishes come true and played TLM (the song) and the rest, i know for sure i'd miss Debaser and Hey and Nimrod and Bone and Tame and......
But for now, in my own peace and quiet i sit here and miss the fb solo songs and catholics too more than I anticipate my next Pixies gig. I'm sure i'll be all excited again once i read that first set-list of their 2005 return. I'm hoping, anyway. |

Posted - 03/28/2005 : 02:41:27 They'll never play Frank's or Breeders' songs. That would be great but that won't happen, ever. But they could play more songs from Trompe and Bossanova and still play some crowd pleasers. And come on, Alec Eiffel IS a crowd pleaser! |

Posted - 03/28/2005 : 02:27:51 It just occurred to me after all the complaining about Pixies playing only the hits - they didn't really do that, did they? I mean Winterlong, Into the White, Wave UK, In Heaven, all B-sides, no? The problem is that there was no variation in the setlist because they were too lazy to learn new song and not really because they only wanted to play the hits, the crowd pleasers. I am hoping for some new songs this year though. Now that they had some time to practise. |

there is a huge pile of material they could play if they did FB solo and the catholics' songs - - the Catholics did Pixies songs after all. I would really like to hear Los Angeles, The Man Who Was Too Loud or Llano Del Rio ..... you get the idea. They probably do too, but I'm sure they have some plan to break out of safe mode.

I am responding to the wishes of people who want a set made up entirely of B-sides, Bossanova and Trompe songs. I don't know of a festival headline act that would try/have tried that. Do you? Trust me, it would not be well received, perhaps not boo'd (though I still think it would by a few who wanted their Debaser etc) but it would at least send a lot of people off to watch Kasabian, which is a horrible thought.
Now think before you go around calling people silly.

Posted - 03/23/2005 : 16:01:46 I bet Trompe and Bossanova are a challenge to alot of new listeners, wanting poppy songs like HCYM and classics like Debaser and WIMM. the last two albums aren't as friendly, and maybe off putting when all you've been exposed too is Surfer Rosa and Doolittle.
and we know the Pixies, like Fb, are hit and miss with the public. hence the no global domination crappy thing going on with bands like REM and WHO2. |

Posted - 03/23/2005 : 15:45:34 It's probably tough not to play the crowd pleasers at festivals. alot of fans both old and new,and then the ones who just know your band's cool. Do you think the pixie fans are outnumbered by folk who just know the 'hits'?
Hopefully a new song or two. They must know there will be alot of fans out there, just like you and I. |

Posted - 03/23/2005 : 14:59:44 You know I was thinking about this again last night and I have come to the conclusion that there is no way that they will play a B-sides/Trompe/Bossanova dominated set at the Carliing festivals at least. It just 'aint gonna happen outisde of thewir own headline tour. They wouldn't get away with it at a festival. I think they would possibly even get boo'd by a lot of people who turn up to hear 'Monkey...', 'Debaser', 'Where Is...' etc. I'd rather they stick to usual set if it means they don't get boo'd. I think I'd cry if they got boo'd, I really do. Then get violent.
