Posted - 01/13/2005 : 19:20:20 After various shows, I posted that I heard Frank/Francis?Charles singing, among other things:
" This song is sung to heaven"
" This songsheet's gone to heaven" ( late show, Dec 18) " This song now feels too Heavy" etc. and peeps said ,like, no way , they heard nothing than the original words, etc.
So, today, I see TWO separate posts ( one here and one on Pixiesmusic) from peeps saying they have recieved their discs or whatever, and are Surprised to hear Frank singing the things I heard AS he was singing them. What were youse all doing @ the shows? Talking?! Singing over him?!
As frankie spontaneously changed the words, y'all missed it! tsk, tsk
He was bored, folks! He had to do something different to get into it!
Now, everyone repeat: "simibaby is the greatest, simibaby is the greatest!" ( Just kidding!) ........or am I ? |

I still believe in the excellent joy of the Frank |

Posted - 01/15/2005 : 15:31:04 Yo, Daisy! Thanks! On Ringo Starr's 1st solo album after the Beatles split, John Lennon wrote a song for it and sang backing harmonies. It is called "I'm The Greatest".....here are some words ( not that u asked!)
"When I was a little boy, way back home in Liverpool
My mama told me I was great
Then when I was a teenager, I knew that I had got something going
All my friends told me I was great
And now I'm a man, a woman took me by the hand
And ya know what she told me? I was great
I was in the greatest show on earth*
For what it was worth
Now I'm only 32
And all i wanna do
Is boo-ga-looooooo!" *The Beatles?

Posted - 01/15/2005 : 10:24:11 Most overplayed: Monkey, Wave, and Caribou. Mind has taken on a life of it's own. I love that song, esp. with the the Catholic's.

Posted - 01/14/2005 : 19:41:10 yeah i totally agreeeee. i would have loved some serious trompe/bossanova action. and i gotta say, im a little upset that charles' only explanation was that they didnt have time to rehearse and stuff.... so it seems that the only reason there werent many post-dootlittle songs was because of their lazyness.... but whatever. i would have paid to watch them stand silent on stage for 2 hours so... i was a happy camper. |

Posted - 01/14/2005 : 19:26:45 You're the greatest Sim!!!
You know what tho, I never doubted you! I have heard little things like that it's like one of those things you're like did I hear that? Am I going crazy and you don't want to miss anything by asking some one by you if they heard what you heard you know!!!
Just wondering, why did you write apologies to J. Lennon??? Thanks!

Posted - 01/14/2005 : 18:07:50 I think the problem is that all of the "hits" are from the first 3 albums. We want Bossanova and Trompe le Monde. The Pixies treat the entire audience like they're band-wagon hipsters who only know the hits. We paid the same amount of money and have a passion for the Pixies that the "casual fans" just don't have. We feel jipped that we've got to sit through an entire set of over-played songs (we still love them, mind you) just to hear Blown Away once.
But, you know, it's what they want to do, I guess. God bless them...I love them all the same...but I just don't think that it would kill any "casual" fans if they played some Bossanova/Trompe le Monde songs. It will also make the, as Frank likes to call them, "Uber-fans" happy in the process.
Animals think...They're pretty smart! Shit on the ground...See in the dark! |

Posted - 01/14/2005 : 16:37:53 I see most people really hate this, but I have to say I sang along through the entire Pixies show, to every song, from first to last. It can be such a high, don't you agree? I know I'd be enjoying the show just as much without the singing, but still it's fun. I don't think anyone heard me anyway, since I was right in front of a speaker. Also, I saw Frank Black himself sing along to Gigantic while Kim was singing. He was far away from the microfone, doing the stuff on his guitar and singing the words to himself. Now if Frank is doing it, does that make it OK?

Posted - 01/14/2005 : 14:48:20 why? whats the big deal if people are excited to hear the hits? they paid just as much money as you and are allowed to cheer at whatever gets them off.
i mean, yeah, it would be nice to hear the whole place go nuts over a really obscure song... to give the song some recognition.... but come on now, is it that bigga' deal? |

The sad thing is that even in old bootlegs from 1990 people always cheered louder when these were played. Depressing, really.
