Back from #3 in my Pixies week - first, here's the setlist:
(not in the totally correct order, but pretty close)

Notes:
This is my third time seeing both the Pixies and Reid Paley, and both were the best that i've seen them. I enjoy Reid's set more each time i see him, despite his shit-eating grin. He played a song he wrong with Charles, called "I'm Not Dead, I'm in Pittsburgh (he gave me the title himself after the show)." Unfortunately, i forgot to ask if this was one of the tracks that would be on the 2nd disc of the Honeycomb project. It was a good song though - the chorus went something like "i'm not dead, i'm in pittsburgh, they've got me strung up, will you come cut me down?" or something like that. Reid's set was short, sweet and very good. The crowd liked him more than i thought they would.
The Pixies did all their material that featured Charles on acoustic guitar first, and did not go back once he strapped on the Tele. Charles was sporting his new glasses and a black Pixies Local Crew t-shirt. David was rocking some leather pants and a black shirt, Joey a black shirt and some jeans, and Kim a white buttoned down shirt (or a dickie) under a blue sweater.
Charles seemed in a great mood tonight, and was seen singing along to the guitar break in "Here Comes Your Man." He was smiling a lot and seemed to be having a blast. Kim always looks like she's having a blast (ditto for David). Joey seemed to be having the best time of all three nights w/ the Vamos solo - it was nice and extended tonight and he seemed really into it.
Between the main set and the encore, Charles could be seen asking Kim how her voice was - perhaps she wasn't feeling well earlier.
Before "Head On" Charles looked at David and touched his head - perhaps the visual symbol for the song - this is reminiscent of how Charles has said in the past that the Catholics had hand signals for songs, since they used no set list, and i know Charles touching his armpit was the "Monkey Gone to Heaven" symbol (i read it somewhere, then noticed it myself).
Both David and Kim were smiling at/pointing to one of the VIP sections throughout the show - i guess they had friends there. David was pointing w/ his drumsticks all over the place - such a stud.
During "Gigantic" right before the guitar break, Charles stopped for a second and said "Check it out" and then broke into it, which caused Kim a lot of laughter and Joey a few chuckles.
On the gossip-y side, Charles appeared to be wearing a wedding ring on his left hand - perhaps he and Violet have tied the knot? Or maybe he just likes rings. I dunno - I'm just the reporter!
The band sounded FANTASTIC throughout tonight - they all seemed in great spirits.
I'd have to say that this was the best gig i've ever seen in my 22 years. I bought the disc after the show, and was talking to Reid Paley about the time we both spend living in Pittsburgh, and inquiring about the camera men who confirmed that yes, this was being filmer for a documentary.
My celebrity spotting of the evening was Nick Zinner from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. There were also a lot of young men with beards and long hair who were talking to the crowd - i assume these are indie rock stars that i do not know by looks - perhaps My Morning Jacket?
Of the 39 songs they've played since April, at the 3 shows i've been at i've heard all but "Bam Thwok," "Subbacultcha," "Into the White," "River Euphrates," and "Levitate Me." I hope to hear at least a few of those (probably only "Levitate Me," and "Into the White" - the other 3 are pretty rare, but i'm most hoping for "Subbacultcha") on Saturday. I'm going to try and scalp my way into the 7pm show on Sat and then join up w/ Dean for the midnight show - i'm Pixies obsessed!

yeah, when i was there Monday my friend and i were saying the same thing, that all their songs are so good it doesn't really matter what they play. I did enjoy, however, last night's 3 song Trompe mini-set of "Head On," "U Mass" and "Planet of Sound."

I hear you on the wanting to experience them live. Kim's voice gives me chills, and Into The White is great. Levitate Me is another I've really wanted to hear live as well.
I think it's a shame they don't pull more songs into their setlists from Trompe or Bossanova, but its hard to complain when they have so many good songs. |

It's not so much that i want to hear a live version of those songs (i've heard them both before), but i want to experience them live. i i figure if i make both saturday shows, i should be guaranteed at least one of them.
And they have NOT played "Dig for Fire" since reuiniting. The only Bossanova songs are "Velouria," "Is She Weird," and "Blown Away."

Sounds like a hell of a show-- I caught Saturday and Monday, but was thinking about heading back for a third night.
I know on Monday at least David spelled P-I-X-I-E-S during Cactus as well. And Saturday's show had both Subbacultcha and Into The White in the set list, so if you're looking to hear those live, I'd buy the disk for the 12/11 show.
Also, does anyone know why they never/rarely play Dig For Fire?
