I was at the show Sunday night and observed a curious interchange between Frank and Kim Deal that I wanted to get other attendees take on. After finishing "Head On," Kim Deal sheepishly asked, "was that in C or C#." Some mumbling ensued, mostly by Mr. Black. Then I heard Charles plainly say something like, "well, we're not moving on until we get it right." David Lovering looked like he thought Frank was joking, but apparently he wasn't because they ran through the tune again. I thought that was a prick move. I didn't hear any problem with the first rendition. With friction like this, I'm not betting on a new album.

They were all joking around. I was there and noticed that kim didnt know what the fuck was going on and joey was trying to show her what notes to play. she was laughing the whole time. Anyways they could have played it 4 times and i would have been happy

Nah, it seemed a bit planned to me....which is fine. I know there's no DiscLive thing during those shows, but was wondering if they might be recording for another use? (hence the redo) Hmmm.......

It was all in jest, and this kind of playful banter made this one of the best shows ever! Head On x 2 was pretty cool too.

i was at the show as well, and rather close to the stage.

i can say, without a shadow of doubt, that the second version of head on was done all in good fun. no one was upset with anyone. kim was laughing, joey was laughing, frank was being his dry self. the only one who seemed to mildly annoyed was dave who gave sort of an exasperated *sigh* right before they started the second version.

the second version certainly wasn't planned, kim did play the first version in the wrong key. but, as has been mentioned, the difference in the two versions was negligible.

great show all the way around. even better than the night before, which i didnt think would be possible.

The jokes have it. I hope the majority opinion is correct.

I am betting on a new album
and it seems like a joke to me

I'm listening to a recording. It's so obviously a joke. Frank starts laughing after Kim says, "Tell me what it is, Frank!"

There's a bunch more opinions if you follow the link. I wasn't at the show but I downloaded it last night. I think Charles just dead-panned the comment, but not in a nasty way. He has a dry sense of humor. Kim was out of it for whatever reason and they played the song over. Plus, he didn't mention the fact that she was doing something totally weird in Gouge Away. I find the fact that they called an audible re-do completely hilarious. Now if he'd kicked a guitar at her, that would be something else.

I am guessing it's a joke... but i wasn't there. I can't really see Kim seriously needing to know that or asking that... and I can't see Frank seriously making everyone redo it live. To me, it's pretty funny...Maybe this is another clue that we're looking for in the Trompe Le Monde thread.... (now that, I know is a joke)... thanks for the info Cookie... nice name too, (seriously)!!

That's 2 votes for real, 1 vote for joke. Anyone else?

Yas. I was there too. Seemed real but not mean. More mathmatic. I don't think this is it for them. They sounded tooo goood.

Camden. Home of rock?

They were joking around. Settle down.
