Posted - 12/02/2004 : 16:42:58 I went to see the Pixies 12/1 in Lowell Mass, and was wondering if anyone knows the name of the song played before they took the stage. You know when the lights are on and its the changing of the sets. The song had no words but had one hell of a groove. Sounds like a song from the 590's or 60's, or possibly an old cartoon theme song, not sure but need to know so i can get it. I assume they play this song before they hit the stage at all of their cuurent shows. IF anyone knows please let me know - Thanks! Oh I think they played it after the show too when the lights went back on!

The song wasnt with a guitar but with a sax or some other brass instrument. Almost sounded like some Dixie style tune from a Droopy cartoon.
That's got to be from Pet Sounds. See if any of these ring a bell, particularly 'Pet Sounds' itself (scroll down for audio samples)...

I read an interview with Frank where he talked about lending his I-Pod to the technical staff for the house music. |

Posted - 12/02/2004 : 22:01:15 my guess is "rumble" by link wray. it sounds like the song you described to me, plus i know for a fact that that was the song theat played before they came on stage in milwaukee. i didn't notice that they played any particular song as the came on stage at any of the chicago shows i went to so i didn't know if that was something they were doing on purpose or what. but "rumble" is a very cool song to here in the anticipation of the lights going down right before the pixies take the stage.
