Posted - 11/27/2004 : 22:50:07 Just got back from the second of two Montreal. Both sets were excellent. The first night started off slow with In Heaven/Wave UK Surf and Where is my mind? and the second night started off with Frank's electric guitar and a bit more of Trompe and Bossanova.
I've got a few really good photos that I'll try to post tomorrow. I've also got some videoclips (including Mr. Grieves and Velouria in full) that I plan to sync with the disclive recordings. |

Posted - 11/30/2004 : 19:22:10 That's funny.
Before the encore, Frank actually went up behind David and gave him a big bear hug, lifting him into the air. It was quite a sight to behold.

Posted - 11/30/2004 : 12:22:27 I like the trees, and the stories of choreographed lighting are intriguing. I saw them on their warm up tour; no set dressing, no light show, but still awe-inspiring. I'd like to see them with all the theatrics, though. |

Posted - 11/30/2004 : 12:13:51 I think the trees have mics on them. It's good way to hide the sound equipment.

Posted - 11/30/2004 : 12:02:32 Yeah those trees were a nice touch. I couldn't even tell if they were supposed to be trees or were part of the lighting.. Looked cool either way.
I got disc number 13 of the second show! |

Posted - 11/30/2004 : 11:05:37 The trees must be a tour thing because they were at the Hull show, too.
Great fun!
I am happy that I got the second Montreal night's DiscLive because now I can actually hear the show versus just the crappy CEPSUM acoustics I heard during the actual show.
The setlist's not on DiscLive yet. I just checked.
I thought Frank fucking rocked during Head On, the second night. Something about how he sang that song was extraordinary.
Nice shots, Thanks for posting!
I still believe in the excellent joy of the Frank |

Posted - 11/30/2004 : 10:02:53 Are the trees a CEPSUM Arena thing, or part of the Pixies stage decorations? They look really cool. |

Posted - 11/30/2004 : 04:23:26 I saw the first show only and was somewhat disappointed by the fact they didn't play anything post-1989 except U-Mass. Friends told me the sound was horrible from the seats but that's what you get at the CEPSUM, which is actually more of a tumorous gymnasium than an arena. But hey, it was the Pixies! And I went all the way up front to mangle with the teenagers, who were suprisingly numerous.
I'm waiting to receive my Disclive copy. I can't wait to see what the videos of Velouria and Mr Grieves llok like. I commend your initiatives.

Posted - 11/29/2004 : 19:35:44 maybe 'cause I was up in the seats but I thought the sound was horrible. Frank was in top form when I could actually hear him. The bass seemed to knock out everything out, especially the guitars, not being able to hear them over the quaking drone just killed me. |

And the first song of the second show was IS SHE WEIRD.
During the first show, the only song of Bossanova or TLM was U-MASS.
I prefered the second show. Frank was more relax and he screamed A LOT ! The show was more dynamic. The sound was great.
However, no new songs of Bossanova or TLM that was not played in this Tour; No surprises in both concerts.
Manny, you got a video of Mr. Grieves of the second show ? Wow, I would like to see that again. Frank's voice was superb on that one and the lighting during this song was great. I hope you will be able to put it somewhere on the net...

Posted - 11/28/2004 : 06:55:31 If you could send some pics my way :) Even though the second show was smaller, it blew me away compared to the first. They didn't play Blown Away damn it!!! :( Although I was surprised when Planet of Sound was played

Posted - 11/28/2004 : 05:12:48 I was front and center in the seats and the sound and show was awesome.....Datsuns seemed like a dumbed-down and cornier version of the Blues Explosion. Boy did the Pixies blow their asses away. .....what was also pretty cool was they played Wave, then In Heaven, and then Wave Uk Surf right after. ......wow, a lot of young kids. |
