12 August 2004 Pixies songs on Black's solo album Pixies frontman Frank Black has re-recorded some of the band's classic tracks for his new double solo album.
Billboard reports that 'Frank Black Francis' is due for release on 12 October.
The first disc features Black's pre-Pixies demos, and the second contains new recordings of more than a dozen of the band's songs.
Among the songs reinterpreted by Black are 'Monkey Gone to Heaven', 'Cactus' and 'Into the White'.
Black is also expected to release another solo album, 'Honeycomb', next year.
Recorded in Nashville, he describes it as "a very mellow album".

Posted - 08/16/2004 : 18:06:32 i liked being reminded of the news of the fb album that was already discussed. it made me happy. thanks. i work at a record store and nothing brings me more joy than to introduce the pixies to newbies and also tell skeptical fans not to miss this tour because they still freakin rock!!!!!! i think catholics shows will be more crowded now. i hope so. isn't that the whole point of playing out. having people see you? it's gonna be ok. say it, it's gonna be okay. i love this forum. because people have been so helpful and seem like a good bunch of fan/geeks. i do wish i owned the pixies, but that is impossible .
re-hashed news: don't forget, 9/14 vinyl lp reissiues. whoo hoo. i started out on cassette, then cd,then minidisc, then mp3. haven't experienced pixies lps yet. are there any 8-tracks out there?
just keepin it real, like kim deal |

Posted - 08/15/2004 : 02:33:57 This is a news area, so in MHO any news from an official source should be here, regardless of what gossip/news appeared elsewhere in the forum, if its actually going out on the wire then its news. As for comments about 'Pixies Fans' vs 'FB Fans' who has time for such territorial pissings anyway? What would be the solution, require all new members of the forum to lurk for 6 months before they post? Fact - Newbies are gonna ask dumb questions from time to time, and probably post old news, chances are when a longer serving member points it out they are going to feel like a shmuck anyway, without getting relentlessly flamed for it. Someone takes the time and effort to share something they think might be of interest, just respect that, if it's not of interest to you, or its old news don't read the thread!

Posted - 08/13/2004 : 12:52:20 Well to be honest I was trying to hold my tongue a bit (as I genuinely don’t mean any of this as the cause of an argument!!), I don't think there is anybody alive that wouldn't hold a bit of resentment when a band/artist/whatever that they love gets a sudden surge of interest/popularity... I’ve been in similar situations.. However, this attitude of 'I heard about that 5 hours before you did, I have posted more topics than you, I am more of a fan than you, my dad's bigger than your dad' etc etc does get a bit annoying.. And why didn't the more detailed article in FB forum get a retort of 'this album was first mentioned like 6 months ago', I have followed pixies and frank since '88 and was a member of this forum before I had to create this new login, but I don't see why that is relevant to anybody, and so what if I posted a redundant article???? Redundant or not it didn't deserve the silly jibes post afterwards about the news in Ireland etc...And to me the WWW is about exactly that - worldwide and not cosy atmospheres where someone gets shot down for one little post. Anyways, none of those were angry words, just a small bit of frustration only. And so this topic finds its way to the bottom of the screen (where it obviously deserves) I’ll be sure not to post any more replies to it... |

Posted - 08/13/2004 : 08:51:19 I don't mind being a post tour poster, it takes a while to find your sea legs especially if your computer hates you(my case). For the definitive word on anything I've found it helps to search non archived posts of Mr. Blck, Mr. Noisy and over at Pix.com Mr. Tempest. And I want to point out again my tremendous respect for all true Frank Black scholars everywhere who have enriched my knowledge of this guy who's music I seem to be nuts about. Also Google Pixies News alert helps, I get stuff from Malasia. Here's a great one from this mornings - http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/Music/08/12/music.the.pixies.ap/index.html , a few nice pixie quips in there "record companies Schmekered companies" and the fact that they have absolutely no plans beyond 6 months, which doesn't seem to stop the rumor mill. Interesting times. |

Posted - 08/13/2004 : 08:30:51 because a more in depth, much better article w/ frank quotes was placed in the FB forum hours before. and i have to apologize if i seemed like a dick - i just find that this board's once cozy atmosphere and has blown up since the pixies reunion and that the FB fans post all over and contribute equally, but the new-er pixies fans just stick to the their own little cliques

Posted - 08/13/2004 : 05:55:48 I just posted the piece because it summed everything up in a few line including the release date. Why does every post have to be such an ordeal for some forum members?? especially this frank V's pixies stuff.. what rubbish. |
