Posted - 07/06/2004 : 18:07:24 Today, at my way home from the Amsterdam gig, I've seen the guy who joined me on my way home from the Pinkpop concert. The trip where I met Errol Thompson. (read about it here: http://forum.frankblack.net/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8082 ) This guy I'm talking about was lucky enough to talk about half an hour more to Errol than I did. He told me some quite exciting things. But, what's quite ennoying for you guys is the fact that he promised to Errol not to tell anyone about it... But I'm glad he told me about it.
So, what to tell...?
The title of this thread is kind of misleading. I can't tell you anything. But I can tell you that I know some more facts about the new Pixies album, and about the future of mr. Charles Thompson as well. And I must say that I am enormously excited about the things I've heard. I know some of you will be too in the future, and some of you definately will not. I'm sorry I can't tell you anything, but this is about my integrity towards Errol, Chuck and the Pixies as well.
All I can say is: read my other BREAKING NEWS!!! thread again, and again, and maybe you'll draw the right conclusion. But then again, there are things that will be disclosed only if the Pixies decide the time is right. Be patient, the future will be very... interesting for us, the (über-)fans. My god, Charles Thompson is an incredibly intelligent man!
One last hint: what was the title of the last Pixies album?
I'm bored with the valleys and bored by the peaks. So I bought a ticket to the Pixies |

Posted - 08/13/2004 : 15:09:50 I remember a long time ago, maybe 1998, I saw a Pixies trading page and this guy had a kind of ranking with their favorite bootlegs and if I remember well, maybe I'm wrong, on his top one he had a bootleg called "Pixies - Surf Epic" and he added something like this: "Don't ask me what that means". I've tried to search for that page again but I've not found it :( |

Posted - 08/13/2004 : 14:23:41 I think there was a clip of the pixies doing surf epic floating about(might have been a different song, cant remember),going back to the J.Malta affair..

"[Kim deal from a Rock A My Soul interview:
"Are there any Pixies tracks recorded that have not been released? - Yes, yes. Definitely. Can you tell me about them? - No. Because we’re trying to work those out, because we’re doing another album straight away. that’ll be more surfier, like Bossanova. We’ve got a lot of recorded material, kind of like Guns ‘n’ Roses. Not enough to make this album and not enough to make that album. We’ve got to wait. We’ve done sort of seven eights of this album and two eighths of that album... see what I mean? We’ve done more than and album’s worth of stuff, but not enough for either of them to come out."
The second source is an interview with Black in Meldoy Maker (i think) where he talks about the recording of trompe le monde, and where he mentions that they are also recording a different album - a surfy album. He specifically mentions "an epic surf song" - which i guess turned up as "surf Epic", and later on as Dog In Sand. He also opened his show on his first solo tour with 2 (or 3?) surfy songs, so the surf mood was very evident around the first album.]"
The Lost Tapes ? This surf epic sounds like a lost masterpiece. Can anyone substantiate or provide links?

That, or Chicken-heads is just trying to trompe everybody himself.
If my guess is right, they shouldn't let on that its old material and they should call the album Trompe l'Oreille, "fool the ear," since no one will be able to believe their ears when they hear it.

Posted - 08/05/2004 : 21:34:12 Well, David Lovering flat out lied to me at an April concert when he said the Pixies had recorded no new material, so with that, anything Errol or any other random forum person says is a big, fat WHO KNOWS.

Posted - 08/03/2004 : 10:39:04 But with the pixies currently not on a record label, they would be receiving the 65% straight off? So each time some-one bought bam thwok, they were giving each member $0.160875.(Minus the aforementioned production costs etc)

LOL, that made me laugh very hard for some reason.
And about the earlier discussion about why iTunes sucks and how it's still not fair to the artists:
"Apple says iTunes is "better than free" because it's "fair to the artists and record labels." That's simply not true. First of all, Apple gets 3 times as much money as musicians from each sale. Apple takes a 35% cut from every song and every album sold, a huge amount considering how little they have to do. Record labels receive the other 65% of each sale. Of this, major label artists will end up with only 8 to 14 cents per song, depending on their contract. Many of them will never even see this paltry share because they have to pay for producers and recording costs, both of which can be enormous. Until the musician "recoups" these costs, when you buy an iTunes song, the label gives them nothing. (Sources: major label musician's cut Apple's cut For a thorough explanation of how recouping screws musicians, see Confessions of a Record Producer by Moses Avalon)"

No...you are right. That's why I am tending to believe Chickenwithtwo heads. He hasn't mislead us before. I think he just likes sharing info with other fans. It's not unlogical or competely improbable that the Pixies were out to Trompe/Fool the record company. |

When I watched it, it was followed by a short piece by 'Anton Corjbin' (Yes. I know.) Both superb and - I think - available on DVD. Well, well worth it. (I've got them on video from wayt back when) I mention it as it is the only recorded appearance by CB in years, and while a treat to know he's still working (in paint.) he looked very frail.
And I gotta say Tom Waits just sounds like the crumbs from Beefheart's plate to my ears. (no flaming, please. I might just need re-educating.)
I do know that 'The Magic Band' are once more a touring unit and for anyone even remotely interested - GO! Go now! They are fucking astonishing live! Perhaps it's Magic Band connected, all this 'chicken-rumbling'?"

Frank Black & The Magic Band? Whatever he does, I hope it's so shockingly big that half of us hate it and will be screaming from the balconies like the opening night of The Rites Of Spring. Could just be a nice little record, that'd be O.K. too. You get great music T.V. & radio in drizzly ol' England, saw CB twice in CA, raised my musical consciousness and the hairs on the back of my neck. Out here in W. Mass. it's a siberian wasteland of dinosaur soft rock tours & quite little folkbars, but I'd travel to see TMB again & will try to find the Peel doc, thanks for the heads up. I consider myself lucky to be sharing the same era with Tom Waits, to me he's one of the greats, but it's true CB stands alone in his own universe so as great as TW is he might comparatively crumish. Listen to Rain Dogs again. Maybe a Tom Waits & Frank Black Lounge Duets with Strings. |
