Here's an article about the success of iTunes Europe on the BBC News website:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/music/3832201.stm

quote:
Ken Goes, manager of the Pixies, said the release by iTunes of their single 'Bam Thwok' had boosted sales in four countries.

"By distributing our first song in 13 years exclusively on iTunes, we were able to quickly and inexpensively make it available to millions of fans in the US and Europe," he said.

Boosted sales? I don't get it... Boosted them from 0?

Here's an interesting development:

The first official download chart will be launched in September. They're doing some testing at the moment, and guess who's at number one:

Boosted sales because people who heard Bam Thwok decided to go out and buy old Pixies albums? That's what I figured when I read it.

Well, yeh, but even saying 'first' doesn't confirm they're doing new material.

I'd love to hear a new album, and for all I know it could be already recorded. But I'd hate to see people get too excited and then disappointed.
