I find Brody Dalle to be very attractive. I didn't agree with Alex from Franz either nor Meg White. The others are good looking though, in their own way. Hardly the best collection of rock lookers overall though!!!

Can't really see the attraction of Brody myself,Meg's boobs looked quite nice in that photo though. Each to their own i suppose

What happened to the NME? During the second half of the 80's I used to read the NME/ Melody Maker whenever I could get my hands on a copy imported from the UK. It was a good source of info on music worth listening to. This is where I learnt of the Pixies and I thought it was a pretty good publication back then. Maybe it has been crap all along?

No no it's still very good for that. It's just very very two-faced. And aimed at kids!!!
But hey, I'm still a kid at heart!!!

I have to go with Gracie here, I felt dirty but I bought it anyway. 'SOK, nothing that exciting.

Posted - 05/27/2004 : 10:36:29 I hate the NME with a passion but i bought it anyway. I always feel dirty and let down when i lower myself in this way so i'm going to start stealing it if theres a band i like in it.
I agree with whoever said that the NME are two faced, its the most annoying thing about them. This new morrissey worship is a good example. They'll hate him again this time next year.
I remember when Limp Bizet (sp?) were popular, the NME couldn't get enough, and did you read that PJ Harvey review in this weeks issue? The fucking bastards, they're not fit even speak her name! |

Posted - 05/27/2004 : 06:28:42 also noticed, on the 'artists most searched for' on nme, it reads as follows... (first time i've ever seen pixies in there)
1. New Music 2. Morrissey 3. Libertines 4. Oasis 5. Strokes 6. White Stripes 7. Franz Ferdinand 8. Radiohead 9. Muse 10. Madonna 11. Yeah Yeah Yeahs 12. Pixies 13. Scissor Sisters 14. Ryan Adams 15. Keane 16. Hope Of The States 17. Ash 18. The Killers 19. Vines 20. The Ordinary Boys

Posted - 05/27/2004 : 01:13:15 Fittest rock stars - the White Stripes !?!?!? - You're right, people do have strange tastes. Maybe it is a reflection on the normal readership of the NME - people who don't get out to often! |

Gutted I spent £1.80 on this bollocks.
Me too. What is wrong with the writers at the NME nowadays? It made me laugh how a few weeks ago they were kissing Morrissey's arse, and then in the Pixies article today they've gone quite off him.
Something like "below-par morrissey" - "average new album" etc....
I wanna go to the moon. I wanna do this duet with Morrissey.....
Yeah they are very two-faced, although it depends on who writes each particular article.
I just buy it to hear about new bands. They are always the first to break them.
Hansel and Gretel have formed a band, .....And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Breadcrumbs!!!
I think it's awful. I can understand that one writer is different from the next, but slagging someone off after the same magazine licks their rear is just stupid, which sums up the NME nicely, or the people behind it at the moment at least.
They do break quite a few bands don't they? I was nicely surprised to see 'TV on the Radio' having a double page spread in this week's issue. The only problem is the ticket prices seem to double when NME starts recommending bands.
This might want to be mentioned next week as well, but the glossy pull outs in next week's NME are Pixies artwork. This really fuck me off, I've been getting the NME more than usual because of their dribbling of Pixies articles. They did the same with all the Morrissey stuff. It's such an annoying marketing ploy!

Posted - 05/26/2004 : 13:45:00 Thought the main article was bilge, but quite liked the reprinted article which I haven't seen before. Frank talks about taking acid and visiting Elvis's home - which correct me if I'm wrong - was the inspiration for His Kingly Cave on Devils Workshop, so that was kind of cool.
If I hear one more journalist referring to "failed solo careers" so help me I'll scream

Posted - 05/26/2004 : 07:55:38 The main article appeared to me to be a complete load of arse. Like they wanted to fill 4 pages with Pixies stuff so mugs like me would buy it. They've just reprinted articles I read 13 years ago and got a few musos to give obvious opinions - "I like the Pixies" for example. And as for Frank Black's lyrics predicting the future?!? Gutted I spent £1.80 on this bollocks. And I'm sure the last time I bought the NME it was 60p. Rant over. |

Posted - 05/26/2004 : 06:04:34 Have just read the article, and it's pretty much as you'd expect; Coachella report, how the band seem more relevant today than they did back then, bunch of contemporary musos going on about how fantastic they were/are, etc.....
So, nothing new, but four pages worth of them in the UK's primary music publication? ....not complaining. |
