Prelude:

this is my interpretation
so I'm not saying that I'm right
which I'm obviously are
but ok
that's because it's my opinion
I'm not saying that it's the best one
but it obviously is
because otherwise I would have another
opinion
so if frank came here and said
do you have another opinion
I would say
no
because
I already have a great one
and that is
my own
................

first (and last) act:
I think the journalists in general
have acquired quite some respect
from us fans, because they all
had their eyes open when this reunion started
and they all wrote their articles
but why, heaven why, are almost all of them
wrong.
If you don't know what I'm talking about
read one or two articles
Of course I'm talking about the downplaying
of Trompe Le Monde and Bossanova
it's like that
after 15 years the pixies finally get some
credit for what they have astonished
but they still aren't credited enough
and maybe I'm some underdogfan who will always
be shouting this stuff and never thing my heroes
are getting recognition. But I don't think that's the case

The pixies are one of the very few bands
that had no weak album
but most people can't handle that
and need to point to something that's weaker

things like that bossanova and trompe le monde have weak lyrics

let's see:
The happening anybody?
isn't that pure poetry?

My sun is burning in deepest space
that's the way things are

BLOODY good line
it moves me

Letter to Memphis
isn't that a great love song

We need to get some beer
why don't have no atmosphere
(or something like that)
super duper
line
from looking into the sun
every looked into the sun?

These are great lyrics
the production on those albums are great
like joey said guitar hell

I could cary on and on forever
but it's getting late
so I want you people
to go on about this

one more thing
I'm just waiting
for the one great journalist who dares to say:
,,Well after Trompe Le Monde, it all went downhill for the pixies''

that's history, in my opinion, that's what happened

Totally agree. This B-Sides album is full of inspiration. Nobody can beat the Pixies.

Ice Cream- you are a sick puppy! I can't believe you feel that way

I don't think any of the Pixies albums are weak. I was listening to Bossanova yesterday, and what annoys me about the production/sound is more than made up for in the quality of the songs. Trompe is just a brilliant orgasm of an album, not shitty by any means. I rarely invest much value in what journalists superficially think about a band they probably don't know very much about.

I challenge you to justify that! En garde!

I like what someone earlier said that a band just isnt allowed to have more than two great albums. Since they only put out four, I think they want some to put out some kind of explanation as to why things were going down hill or something. Howvere, like a lot of oyu are saying, Bossanova is the shit, its biggest downfall is that it followed surfer and doolittle. I like Velouria, all over the world as much as anything the pixies ever did. and im not a big silver fan either, but thats cool, just hit next track and rock out to gouge away.

Yes the frank vocal is very disturbing
and Kim is singing it slightly different
in the breeders demo version
and I like it a lot better

hey, they have a tribute album too, but you have to pay for it? sheesh! and they've got drivin' on 9 on it... that's like a cover of a cover... i'm sure it's not legal!

doesn't even include cannonball... sheesh again...

Is it like today? Oh, oh, oh-oh. Then there followed days with kings, empires and revolutions. blood just looks the same when you open the veins. sometimes it was faith, power or reason as the cornerstone. but the furrowed brow has never left his face. he said, how did it come to this?

Frank himself said on the gouge documentary that thinks he lost the ability to write spontaneously during Trompe, and that the songwriting was weaker on that album - but I'd even have to disagree with the great man on this one.

Even the B-Sides album would put a 100 lesser bands in the shade - the tendency however is to judge an album not in terms of its peers, but in terms of some idealist perception of a band at their best, every song on a new offering must be as good as the best moment on their previous best album, or the release falls woefully short.

I don't care much about lyrics. But I feel the same way about the music. I have said for years (you can ask my wife) that the Pixies are the only band with a perfect career. On their 4.5 regular releases, there are no songs I skip over. None. Sure, there are different styles. This is a good thing! What's not genius about Stormy Weather? Taking a single line and singing it as many ways as you can; great idea! Silver: haunting. Kim is god.

At least some journalists understand this, though. I wish I paid attention to who wrote what so I could refer to them. One called them The Band Like No Other. The New York Times review of Coachella was great--the whole thing was about the Pixies, and it mentioned a few other bands that were there. Another one wrote something like "Oh my god, it's the fucking Pixies!" and then said it met his expectations entirely.

Stormy Weather is actually my fave song off Bossanova.

Well I don't see filler on Bossanova myself
I think a song like Stormy Weather could be called filler
by some people
to me
it's still ten times better than a song like 'Silver'
which is a great song, but they totally wrecked it apart
listen to the breeders demo of it
and I make myself clear

apart from Stormy Weather
I can't think about any song on bossanova
that's not truly genius

I just listened to Bossanova crossing the mountains the other day - it is a beatyfull album - but with an annoying production - and a couple of fillers. The best songs on it are as foxy as any pixies-marble. But it has a couple of weaklings in it,

Bossanova is slightly weak IMO, but I think you make a good point. No band is allowed to make more than two or three great albums in a row, just like no band, even after 35 years, is capable of topping the Beatles. It's the critical rule-of-thumb.
