Posted - 04/15/2004 : 14:52:01 I know a lot of you hate NME but I thought I would let you know that they have a two page article on them this week.
They say a lot of nice things about how we wouldn't have most of the bands (and all of the good ones) we do today if it weren't for the Pixies. Say what you want about NME, but they sure do love the Pixies.
Oh I nearly forgot that they also have an interview with Morrissey. That's a rare enough thing nowadays and he's always quite an interesting guy to hear from.

Posted - 04/16/2004 : 14:47:24 I know what you mean Stuart, I think, but they don't jump on the bandwagon 'cos they usually start it. They have their finger on the pulse quicker than any other mainstream musical publication. They do kiss the right ass though, if that's what you mean. And they soon forget who they once loved in some cases, but then we all have loved some bands once, who we later grow tired of.
They are not perfect but they get me onto more new bands sooner than anyone else.
Hell MTV are certainly not perfect either but they introduced me to the Pixies all those years ago.

Posted - 04/15/2004 : 15:20:02 What annoys me is the way they just flip off Frank's solo stuff all the time. They liked self titled, but the rest they have no time for.
I read the Morrissey interview. I thought they asked a few stupid questions, but it was alright on the whole.

Posted - 04/15/2004 : 15:14:46 I don't understand why people are so negative about the NME.
Yes, they publish a lot of shit, but at the same time they can afford to support great and not-so-popular bands.
They were always 200% behind The Pixies, during the band's lifetime and after the breakup.
Here is how their review of DttP ended: "If you only buy two albums this year, buy this one. Twice." |
