Forum's not been loading for me till today, assuming it's been the same for everyone else as this hasn't been posted yet - and holy Toledo, I gotta say:

https://www.brooklynvegan.com/pixies-announce-bossanova-trompe-le-monde-reissues-ft-unreleased-songs/

Pixies have been celebrating their 40th anniversary this year, and that continues with the announcement of new remasters of 1990’s Bossanova and 1991’s Trompe le Monde, due out on September 11. In addition to the standard black vinyl (which is available for pre-order now in the BV shop) there are also two limited edition vinyl pressings with bonus 7#8243;s exclusive to Dinked’s new “Dinked International Editions.” Those have four previously unreleased songs from 1987-1991: “Dig For Fire” (Albini Version) and “Go Man Go” on Bossanova (which also comes with a 16-page, 10#8243; replica of the original UK booklet with the incorrect track listing) and “Brackish Boy” and “Punk Loop” on Trompe le Monde.

Both albums were remastered by Kevin Vanbergen, and here’s more about the unreleased songs from a press release:

Side A of the special Dinked Bossanova 7” is a Steve Albini recording of “Dig For Fire”, recorded in late 1987 during the sessions for Surfer Rosa, and sounding far removed from the version they released almost 3 years later. Side B is “Go Man Go”, a once near-mythical Black Francis and Kim Deal co-write that was recorded by both Pixies and The Breeders during the album sessions for Bossanova and Last Splash respectively (but failed to make the cut for either). Outside of appearing on a bootleg tape of Breeders demos and them airing it a few times live at the time, the song faded from view until 2023 when, upon discovering the lost master for it, The Breeders included their version on their 30th anniversary reissue of Last Splash.

On the Trompe le Monde bonus 7”, Side A is “Brackish Boy”, known more as a Frank Black song as he recorded it again for his eponymous 1993 debut solo album. This early version has been mastered direct from the album session tape and with no post-production. The flip side features the least conventional track of the four, “Punk Loop”. It was recorded in 1991 during the Trompe le Monde sessions, labelled simply as ‘Punk Loop’ MSTR.

Hello everybody. I haven’t posted here in ages. I’m really enjoying these four new/old Pixies tracks, especially ‘Go Man Go’.

I notice a subtle difference in the rhythm and vocal delivery which took me a minute to adjust to. I’m not a super technical musician, but curious if anyone here noticed the following.

-In the Pixies version: Kim sings “Go” on beat 1 of the first bar, then “Man Go” on beats 1 and 2 of the second bar.

-In the Breeders version: She sings “Go” on beat 1 and “Man” on beat 4 of the first bar, followed by “Go” on beat 1 of the second bar.

Anyway, curious if anyone else here noticed this nuance? When these tracks first dropped, I really preferred the Breeders’ version. But now I love the Pixies’ version and can’t hear it any other way.

R.I.P. Dave Phillips.

Trompe & FB Self-Titled are the summits of Charles Thompson's epic songwriting mountain range.

I joined the cult of Souled American / 'cause they are a damn' fine band

I agree, their version of Brackish is great and in fact, all of their Pixies covers were.

Thanks for posting those songs, aside from hearing the available snippet of Brackish Boy and wondering how the whole thing went, I had no clue these songs existed. I quite like Punk Loop too!

Cheers.

I want more lyrics like that from Frank. I want some rage.

I do think that it's better that we have both Adda Lee and Wave

Punk Loop is clearly a sketch, but it's hard to escape the echoes of Bagboy. Can't imagine they went through the Trompe era tapes when the demoing began circa 2010/11, but there we are.

Certainly feels less forced than Bagboy, which I always felt was a rather mean-spirited lyric.

I've never realised that riff became Adda Lee.
Though I now realise Adda Lee is an underestimated gem.

I check this forum every single day for like the past ten+ years. I don't get how it's even possible I could have missed this.

It's frustrating because me and a friend did a very elaborate, intensively researched podcast about the first FB album and this would have been nice to have for that.

Agree with what's been said above. 'Punk Loop' is particularly interesting. I could swear there was a Trompe era TV appearance where the band launched into a similar sounding instrumental (like the descending chords from the 3:20 mark) after the applause for having played one of the Trompe songs. But can't find it anywhere (had thought it was one of the Dennis Miller appearances). Perhaps a false memory!

This probably isn't it, but thought I'd post anyway:

Ah, that's the clip where Dave asks Kim about The Breeders and Frank turns around and coughs right before going into that ending jam.

Could be nothing.

But...

Hey, can anyone confirm if the songs themselves sound this distorted and low quality, or is this just this person's digitization?

My copies sound similar to these rips when listening on my turntable. They aren't final polished produced songs, they are roughs/demos.

I understand that, but the distortion sounds like vinyl or transferring distortion to me and not like a demo quality thing. Demos aren't usually distorted, despite being of lower than studio quality. We have other Pixies demos and rarities that do not have distortion, etc.

Honestly I couldn't tell much of a difference. You might need high end audio equipment and/or producer/engineer ears to really tell.

Punk Loop is great. They could have just dropped it into the middle of IC or HC to make the album better
natenate101 Posted - 09/11/2026 : 20:22:25
Totally agree that Punk Loop sounds like Bagboy. Go Man Go is quality, Brackish Boy short but fun, and the Dig for Fire Albini version is so different which makes it even more interesting. They did the right thing by that song in the end but it’s really cool to hear the raw sound.
Skatealex1 Posted - 09/11/2026 : 13:18:39
Cool stuff! First time hearing something new from the old Pixies recordings in some time.

I like Go Man Go, wonder if it would have been a crowd favorite back in the day given people's liking to Kim. I think overall the Breeders one might have a little smoother flow as its a bit poppier but this one has a nice dreamy quality to it.

Brackish Boy- cool to hear what that could have been like if it was Pixies.

Punk Loop- sounds more like a demo for sure. Cool to hear though from that era.

Dig for Fire- interesting too. Sounds like an early version of the song- not fully fleshed out structure yet. The raw production on it sounds cool.
