Pixies have been celebrating their 40th anniversary this year, and that continues with the announcement of new remasters of 1990’s Bossanova and 1991’s Trompe le Monde, due out on September 11. In addition to the standard black vinyl (which is available for pre-order now in the BV shop) there are also two limited edition vinyl pressings with bonus 7#8243;s exclusive to Dinked’s new “Dinked International Editions.” Those have four previously unreleased songs from 1987-1991: “Dig For Fire” (Albini Version) and “Go Man Go” on Bossanova (which also comes with a 16-page, 10#8243; replica of the original UK booklet with the incorrect track listing) and “Brackish Boy” and “Punk Loop” on Trompe le Monde.
Both albums were remastered by Kevin Vanbergen, and here’s more about the unreleased songs from a press release:
Side A of the special Dinked Bossanova 7” is a Steve Albini recording of “Dig For Fire”, recorded in late 1987 during the sessions for Surfer Rosa, and sounding far removed from the version they released almost 3 years later. Side B is “Go Man Go”, a once near-mythical Black Francis and Kim Deal co-write that was recorded by both Pixies and The Breeders during the album sessions for Bossanova and Last Splash respectively (but failed to make the cut for either). Outside of appearing on a bootleg tape of Breeders demos and them airing it a few times live at the time, the song faded from view until 2023 when, upon discovering the lost master for it, The Breeders included their version on their 30th anniversary reissue of Last Splash.
On the Trompe le Monde bonus 7”, Side A is “Brackish Boy”, known more as a Frank Black song as he recorded it again for his eponymous 1993 debut solo album. This early version has been mastered direct from the album session tape and with no post-production. The flip side features the least conventional track of the four, “Punk Loop”. It was recorded in 1991 during the Trompe le Monde sessions, labelled simply as ‘Punk Loop’ MSTR.
